GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING: Footy star reveals the bizarre way he ended up with 40 stitches in his leg
The 29-year-old had suffered a deep cut to his right quad during that game which later required stitches.
However, the injury reopened during the Dolphins' Round Nine defeat by the Roosters, with Marshall-King playing just 63 minutes of that match.
He would subsequently be sidelined for a month after the cut became infected, and only returned for the Dolphin's clash 56-0 victory against the Dragons at the beginning of the month.
He then revealed he had to go back into hospital to receive surgery.
'Everyone thought it was just a little scratch but it was two cuts on my leg that were pretty deep,' Marshall-King said to The Courier Mail.

Marshall King has been absent for a month after needing surgery to clean out and stitch up this horror wound that became infected
'It got infected at one point and probably didn't heal enough when I came back.
'I reopened it and had to go back in and get surgery.
'They had to clean it out because it got infected and I had over 40 stitches in my quad – inside and outside.'
King, who began his NRL career playing for the Wests Tigers, moved to the Canterbury Bulldogs in 2018.
The 29-year-old would later move to the Dolphins where he has made 41 appearances for the Queensland outfit.
For King, though, it was worth the wait to be back on the footy pitch. He's made an impact on the pitch too, running over 100m in his last two games, helping the Dolphins secure back-to-back wins.
'It wasn't nice but I had to get it done. It's great to be back,' he said.
'Ot is a little setback in my footy this year but it is good to be back playing and getting the wins.'

Tammy Hembrow's son rushed to hospital after shock accident
Tammy Hembrow 's 10-year-old son Wolf has been rushed to hospital following an accident at school camp. The Gold Coast -based influencer shared a clip to social media on Thursday detailing the harrowing ordeal. 'We just got out of the emergency room, I dropped Wolf to camp this morning and not long after I got a call saying to come to the hospital,' Tammy began. She then revealed the full extent of her son's injuries and how the accident occurred. 'He had cut up his face a bit, he headbutted a metal frame on a bunk bed,' she added, and then reassured her fans her son was recovering. 'I feel really bad he is missing camp because he has been talking about this for so long! He had stitches, glue and a metal bit through his mouth! But we had a good day despite being in the hospital pretty much all day.' On Wednesday, Tammy was seen crying as she dropped her 10-year-old son Wolf off at school camp. Tammy, who is currently dating AFL star Bailey Smith, shed tears in her Bentley following the milestone moment. The 31-year-old was in full mum mode as she earlier carried her daughter Posy, three, from the luxury car and helped her son fit his sleeping bag into his backpack. She cut a casual figure in a pair of white sweatpants and a cropped navy blue sweater. Buzzing with excitement, Tammy's little boy couldn't wait for the school adventure as he carried his pillow, Batman suitcase and rucksack, which his mum lovingly helped pack. However, it was the moment after Tammy had waved goodbye to her firstborn that set the social media star off. The content creator could be seen sitting in her car, wiping away tears as her son left for the school camp. Tammy shares son Wolf and daughter Saskia with ex-fiancé Reece Hawkins, while her youngest Posy she shares with Matt Poole, whom she was also engaged to. In the past couple of weeks she has been spotted on two dates with footy star Bailey. The 24-year-old, who plays for the Geelong Cats in Victoria, has flown to the Gold Coast two weekends in a row to spend time with Tammy. The couple were first seen leaving hand in hand after a meal at swanky Asian fusion restaurant Rick Shores at Burleigh Heads before being caught making out at another restaurant. The pair were more recently spotted enjoying a romantic stroll to Nobby's Beach, where the footy player appeared to have his arm wrapped around Tammy's hips. Tammy and Matt Zukowski announced they were ending their marriage two months ago in separate social media posts. Since then, Matt has admitted he felt 'hurt' watching his former partner move on so quickly with Bailey after their break-up. The Love Island star also hinted that he was the one to end things between them, despite speculation it was Tammy who took the lead.

Reds place C Tyler Stephenson (thumb) on 10-day injured list
August 20 - The Cincinnati Reds placed catcher Tyler Stephenson on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday because of a fractured left thumb. The move is retroactive to Sunday. In a corresponding move, the Reds selected the contract of catcher Will Banfield from Triple-A Louisville. Stephenson, who turned 29 on Saturday, has not played since Friday, going 0-for-3 with one run scored in the Reds' 10-8 loss to the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. He is batting .226 with nine home runs and 36 RBIs in 72 games after opening the season on the IL with a left oblique strain and returning to action on May 2. Stephenson is a career .261 hitter with 59 home runs and 244 RBIs in 542 games since 2020. Cincinnati selected him 11th overall in the 2015 MLB Draft. Bengals G Cordell Volson (shoulder) could miss season
August 20 - Cincinnati Bengals guard Cordell Volson will undergo shoulder surgery and could miss the rest of the season, coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday. Volson injured his right shoulder during practice last Friday. "That's a tough one for him," Taylor told reporters of Volson's injury. "He's been a guy that's really worked hard for us. I wouldn't say it's set in stone (that he will miss the season) until he has the surgery, but that's the direction it seems to be heading." Volson, 27, started 48 of 50 games played at left guard over the past three seasons. He also started all three games in the 2022 season's playoffs. This season, he was slated to be a backup after 2025 third-round pick Dylan Fairchild beat him out for the left guard spot. "He's been a guy, he's been a starter for us," Taylor said of Volson. "He's been a backup for us. All he has ever done is come to work and try to be the best Cincinnati Bengal he can be, not always agreeing with what we are doing in terms of him not being a starter anymore, but just handled it in such a professional way and been a team player through and through. That's what he has been his entire life. "Any player that has an issue like this or a surgery that's going to be a significant hit to them, you never want to see them go through, but Cordell is just a little bit different because of what he has given to us and his approach every day." Volson was a fourth-round pick in 2022 out of North Dakota State. --Field Level Media
