New BMW R 1300 RS Revealed
BMW Motorrad has taken the wraps off its latest sport-touring motorcycle, the BMW R 1300 RS, which the company is calling a blend of performance, comfort, and technology. The motorcycle is all-new and BMW says that it is the sportiest iteration of the 'RS' badge till date. At first glance, the R 1300 RS gets a dynamic and athletic design which makes its sport touring cred obvious. BMW says that the ergonomics on the R 1300 RS are sporty yet offer comfort when ridden over long distances. We can expect the motorcycle to be launched in India in the coming months.
Technical Specifications
At the heart of the R 1300 RS lies a 2-cylinder boxer engine producing a robust 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Paired with a newly engineered chassis featuring a steel main frame and aluminium rear subframe, the motorcycle offers agility and stability. BMW's new Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) - available as optional equipment - brings dynamic damping and spring rate adjustment along with load compensation, a first for series production motorcycles.
Better Touring Comfort
The R 1300 RS is as much about comfort as it is about performance. Riders can choose from a range of seat heights, and a newly developed luggage system with electrified side cases, a top case, and a clever tank bag makes long-haul journeys a breeze.
Standard features include three riding modes, while the optional Riding Modes Pro adds "Dynamic" and "Dynamic Pro" for even more versatility. Engine drag torque control (MSR) is standard, ensuring stability during sudden deceleration. One of the standout features is the optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA), offering fully automated clutch operation and seamless manual or automatic gear shifting - a boon for effortless riding.
Safety and Connectivity
BMW Motorrad raises the safety bar with ABS Pro, a high-performance braking system, and state-of-the-art LED lighting, including an optional adaptive turning light. The Riding Assistant package - also optional - includes Active Cruise Control, Front and Rear Collision Warning, and Lane Change Warning, enhancing both convenience and safety. Navigation is now smarter than ever, with electric locking for the navigation mount - another first for the RS lineup.
Variants and Customisation
The R 1300 RS is offered in four variants: Basic, Triple Black, Performance, and the top-of-the-line Option 719 Cuyamaca, each with its own styling cues and equipment highlights. Kia's India senior VP Hardeep Singh Brar quits, likely to head BMW India
Hardeep Singh Brar, senior vice president and head of marketing and sales at Kia India Pvt. Ltd, has resigned and is likely to join as the next India president of German luxury carmaker BMW, according to two people directly aware of the matter. Brar's decision was announced to the head of departments at the South Korean company last week, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity. 'BMW's current India president Vikram Pawah will move onto a global role. Brar will be taking on the role soon," the first person cited above said. Mint could not independently verify Brar's last day at Kia. However, the second executive said the transition should happen in the next few weeks. Brar, who joined the Korean carmaker in March 2021, has been in the industry for nearly three decades after starting off as the deputy manager of sales at Maruti Suzuki India Ltd in Chandigarh. He has been part of Volkswagen Group, General Motors India, Nissan Motor Corp. and Great Wall Motor Co. Also Read | Mercedes, BMW flash warning lights on China It is unclear who will replace Brar at Kia, which is part of South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Group. Pawah, who became the India president and chief executive officer (CEO) at BMW in 2020, is said to be moving within the BMW Group to take on a global role. He was previously the CEO of BMW Group Australia and New Zealand. In a career spanning three decades, Pawah was with Honda Group and Harley Davidson before joining BMW in 2017, according to his LinkedIn profile. It is unclear whether Pawah will head another global unit or be part of the global management team at the Munich-based automaker. In an interview with Mint earlier this year, Pawah had said that a key plank of growth for the luxury carmaker will be electric vehicle (EV) sales. BMW's total EV sales of 646 cars from January to March accounted for 17% of its overall sales of 3,914 cars in the country. Also Read | BMW, Toyota aim to make hydrogen-powered EVs mainstream with partnership BMW's push in the segment comes when there is a slowdown in the global electric vehicle market. 'Many players had set some unrealistic expectations regarding transition to EVs in a short period, which is why there is some disappointment about the pace of adoption," Pawah had said. The change of guard at the foreign carmakers comes when the Indian auto sector is going through a rough patch. In the financial year 2025, the country's car market grew 2% to 4.3 million. Kia India's retail sales rose 7% to 241,859 units in FY25. BMW, the country's second-largest luxury carmaker, recorded retail sales of 14,966 units during the year. The luxury car market grew just 3% to 51,000 units in FY25.

Billion-dollar battery plant pauses construction amid electric vehicle and tariff uncertainty
A Japanese company has halted construction on a $1.6 billion factory in South Carolina to help make batteries for electric BMWs, citing "policy and market uncertainty." While Automotive Energy Supply Corp. didn't specify what those problems are, South Carolina's Republican governor said the company is dealing with the potential loss of federal tax breaks for electric vehicle buyers and incentives for EV businesses as well as tariff uncertainties from President Donald Trump's administration. "What we're doing is urging caution - let things play out because all of the these changes are taking place," Gov. Henry McMaster said. AESC announced the suspension in construction of its plant in Florence on Thursday, "Due to policy and market uncertainty, we are pausing construction at our South Carolina facility at this time," the company's statement said. AESC promised to restart construction, although it didn't say when, and vowed to meet its commitment to hire 1,600 workers and invest $1.6 billion. The company said it has already invested $1 billion in the Florence plant. The battery maker based in Japan also has facilities in China, the United Kingdom, France, Spain and Germany. In the U.S., AESC has a plant in Tennessee and is building one in Kentucky. The statement didn't mention any changes with other plants. The South Carolina plant is supposed to sell battery cells to BMW, which is building its own battery assembly site near its giant auto plant in Greer. BMW said the construction pause by AESC doesn't change its plans to open its plant in 2026. AESC has already rolled back its South Carolina plans. They announced a second factory on the Florence site, but then said earlier this year that their first plant should be able to handle BMW's demand. That prompted South Carolina officials to withdraw $111 million in help they planned to provide. The company is still getting $135 million in grants from the South Carolina Department of Commerce and $121 million in bonds and the agency said a construction pause won't prompt them to claw back that offer. South Carolina is investing heavily in electric vehicles. Volkswagen-owned Scout Motors plans to invest $2 billion and hire 4,000 people for a plant to build its new electric SUVs scheduled to open in 2027. The state has for decades made big bets on foreign manufacturers like BMW, Michelin and Samsung that have paid off with an economic boom this century, but there is uneasiness that Trump's flirtation with high tariffs might stagger or even ruin those important partnerships. McMaster told people to relax as state and business leaders are talking to Trump's administration and things will work out. "I think the goal of the president and the administration is to have robust economic growth and prosperity and there is no doubt there has to be changes made in our international trade posture and President Trump is addressing that," McMaster told reporters Thursday.
