Oman's manufacturing sector adds RO 3.6 billion to GDP in 2024
Al Yousef was speaking during the 13th regular session of the Shura Council's second term meeting on Wednesday, where he presented a detailed overview of the Ministry's achievements, ongoing projects, and strategic vision. His briefing focused on six major themes: GDP contributions from both public and private sectors, the future outlook of the industrial sector, progress on Ministry projects from 2020 to 2023, evaluation of free trade agreements and the Nazdaher programme, foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows, and future aspirations.
Al Yousef reported that the manufacturing sector achieved an 8.6% growth rate by the end of 2024, with its contribution to GDP at constant prices reaching RO 3.6 billion — equivalent to 10% of the national economy. The sector has also proven its ability to attract investment, drawing RO 2.489 billion in FDI by 2024. This underscores the growing appeal of Oman's industrial landscape for international investors.
Oman's industrial exports reached RO 6.2 billion in 2024, reflecting the added value and global competitiveness of national industries. Al Yousef emphasised that over 260 initiatives are being implemented in partnership with various stakeholders as part of the 2040 Industrial Strategy.
Further strengthening the regulatory and commercial framework, the Ministry issued 7,523 Omani standard specifications by the end of 2024 and simplified 17 technical services. The "Invest in Oman" platform, launched in February 2023, has so far received around 90 investment applications worth RO 5.38 billion. Of these, 43 projects have already been localised, with a combined value of RO 2.25 billion. These include ventures in key sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, food security, and renewable energy.
FDI across all sectors has continued its upward trend, reaching a cumulative total of RO 30 billion by the end of 2024. Al Yousef also highlighted the role of digitalisation in simplifying business operations. The "Oman Business" platform handled over 800,000 transactions in 2024 and added 24 new digital services.
To enhance transparency and promote fair competition, the Ministry has introduced measures to combat hidden trade and mandated the use of electronic payment systems across commercial activities. A ministerial decision has also been issued establishing governance principles for closed joint-stock companies.
In support of local economic participation, the Ministry has introduced new regulations to support consumer cooperatives, including incentives such as access to commercial spaces and streamlined registration procedures.
Regarding the digital economy, Al Yousef noted that e-commerce regulations have been implemented and the "Ma'roof Oman" platform was launched to verify and promote online stores. This initiative has led to a remarkable 236.4% increase in e-commerce licences within a year.
The Minister also outlined several flagship programmes initiated by the Ministry. These include:
a. The Industrial Observatory Programme, to monitor sector performance and support supply chains.
b. The Automation and Artificial Intelligence Programme, aimed at modernising factories and cutting operational costs.
c. The Manufacturing Programme (Tasneea) , which focuses on localising procurement and boosting national product content.
d. The Ta'meer Programme, designed to link large-scale urban developments — such as Sultan Haitham City — with domestic manufacturers, enhancing economic integration. — ONA

Oman hosts Chinese travel delegation to boost tourism
Muscat – As part of efforts to promote Oman's tourism potential in international markets, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is hosting a delegation from leading Chinese travel companies on a familiarisation visit to the sultanate. The visit aims to highlight Oman's diverse attractions, from its natural landscapes and desert and mountain environments to its historical and cultural heritage. Through the initiative, MHT seeks to strengthen Oman's presence in the Chinese market, one of the world's largest sources of outbound tourists, and to support the growth of the sultanate's tourism sector. The programme includes field visits to prominent tourist sites and meetings with Omani tourism stakeholders to enhance cooperation, exchange expertise, and explore strategies for attracting more Chinese visitors. Earlier this year, in March, MHT launched its 2025 promotional campaign to consolidate Oman's position as a global tourist destination. As part of the campaign, the sultanate plans to open new tourism representative offices in China, Russia, Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Latin America. Agreements will be signed with over 80 international tourism companies for joint promotional campaigns targeting Belgium, China, India, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Britain, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries and Gulf states. The campaign will also feature advertising in public transport systems, major shopping centres and on road signs in high-footfall areas. More than 50 media campaigns are planned with international outlets, alongside television promotions to boost Oman's global visibility. To further showcase the sultanate's offerings, over 100 familiarisation trips will be organised for tourism companies and international media representatives.

Oman eyes Indian market with promotional drive
Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) launched a promotional workshop on Monday in the western Indian city of Jaipur, bringing together Omani tourism institutions, companies and airlines to strengthen the sultanate's presence in the Indian market. The four-day workshop is hosting 25 Omani institutions and 150 Indian travel companies. It aims to highlight Oman's tourism products and foster partnerships with Indian tour operators, focusing on families and travellers seeking cultural, natural and leisure experiences. India remains a key market for Oman. In 2024, Indian visitors to the sultanate numbered around 623,623 – a major portion of the 3.9mn international arrivals recorded last year. The ministry said these figures underline India's importance in its marketing strategy, supported by historical, cultural and commercial ties between the two countries. Speaking at the workshop, Yousuf al Mujaizi, Assistant Director, Tourism Business Development at the ministry, said, 'The Indian market is a key focus in our promotional plan due to its potential and diverse traveller profiles, whether cultural or nature enthusiasts. India remains a priority because of the deep ties it shares with Oman, which facilitates promotion and the building of sustainable partnerships.' He added that choosing Jaipur as the venue reflects Oman's intention to engage directly with India's top tourism and travel companies. 'Our focus is on presenting Oman as a multi-season destination, offering cultural and heritage experiences, adventure and nature tourism, wedding tourism, incentives and conferences tourism, alongside integrated hotel experiences,' Mujaizi said. The ministry said the initiative is part of its broader strategy to increase visitor numbers from India and enhance the sector's contribution to GDP in line with Oman Vision 2040, which identifies tourism as a key driver of economic diversification.

Asyad Shipping adds new VLCC Awabi to fleet
MUSCAT: Asyad Shipping – the majority Omani state-owned maritime transportation company – has bolstered its crude shipping capability with the acquisition of a new Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), raising its VLCC fleet strength to 18 vessels. MT Awabi is the second of two VLCCs acquired by Asyad Shipping under a deal first announced by the publicly listed company on April 30, 2025. MT Qurayyat, the first of the pair, was delivered on July 11, 2025. Announcing the arrival of the latest VLCC, Asyad Shipping said in a filing to the Muscat Stock Exchange: 'The vessel has been named 'Awabi', in a gesture that reflects the Company's pride in the national identity and the landmarks of the Sultanate.' Both Qurayyat and Awabi are second-hand sister ships built by China's Dalian Shipbuilding yard and delivered in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Each measures around 333 meters in length, with a maximum deadweight capacity of 308,000 tonnes, and features energy-saving and desulfurization systems. Other acquisitions made by Asyad Shipping during the first half of this year include two newly built Product Tankers, lifting the company's total fleet strength to around 85 vessels spanning diverse cargo segments and categories. According to company officials, Asyad Shipping plans to invest between $2.3 billion and $2.7 billion as part of its fleet expansion strategy, of which more than $1 billion has already been committed. New investments are planned in additional tankers scheduled to enter service in 2026 and 2027, including two LNG carriers, four crude oil carriers, and two product tankers. Meanwhile, Asyad Shipping's total asset value climbed to RO 1.184 billion as of June 30, 2025, compared with RO 1.085 billion on December 31, 2024. The increase was attributed mainly to higher values of property, vessels and equipment, right-of-use assets, and trade receivables. For the six-month period ended June 30, 2025, Asyad Shipping reported gross revenue of RO 164.6 million, down from RO 180.5 million in the corresponding period of 2024. 'This performance aligns with cyclic patterns of the shipping industry and prevailing market conditions,' noted Abdulrahman Salim Al Hatmi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, in the Directors' Report. Net profit declined to RO 20.2 million, compared with RO 27.7 million a year earlier. Operating profit for the period stood at RO 32.3 million, down from RO 43.0 million in the first half of 2024. Asyad Group – the integrated ports and logistics arm of Oman Investment Authority (OIA) – holds an 80 per cent stake in Asyad Shipping.
