Apple's Q3 earnings and Google's Pixel 10 event set the stage for fall phone wars

Phone Arena20-07-2025
Two major events this summer are setting the tone for what's likely to be a very competitive fall in the smartphone world. Apple is scheduled to report its Q3 earnings on July 31, just a few weeks before Google takes the stage on August 20 to announce the Pixel 10 and a new foldable.
These moments may not reveal every detail about what's coming, but they'll offer strong clues about how both companies plan to compete this fall. For Apple, the Q3 earnings call will likely be the last one before iPhone 17 revenue appears. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, this means analysts will be focused on Apple's AI efforts, potential supply chain changes, and what to expect from its next batch of hardware — including the company's first foldable iPhone. There may also be questions about Apple Intelligence and whether the company's AI features are on track to launch this year. With Google already pushing ahead with its Gemini platform, Apple faces growing pressure to show that it can deliver powerful AI features while still prioritizing privacy and on-device performance.

Google's Pixel 10 event, happening just three weeks later, will give the company a moment in the spotlight. While this will be the 10th phone in the Pixel line, the brand's actual 10-year anniversary isn't until 2026. Still, this release is expected to bring new hardware designs and deeper AI integration — especially in areas like image processing, voice interactions, and task automation.
Google will also debut a new foldable alongside the Pixel 10 . It's expected to include design improvements and a better hinge, aimed at bringing it closer to the experience offered by Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Apple's rumored foldable iPhone. Both new foldables are expected to carry high price tags, raising questions about whether premium features will be enough to move buyers. With these events landing just weeks apart, the stage is being set for a direct comparison. Google gets a head start in August, but Apple usually dominates the conversation by mid-September. Both companies are counting on AI and next-gen hardware to differentiate themselves — and both face the challenge of convincing users to upgrade in a market that has cooled in recent years. Whether it's AI, foldables, or traditional flagships, the fall phone wars are about to begin. The real question is, are your pockets ready? I know I'll have a lot to think about when it comes to choosing my next smartphone purchase. Switch to a 2-month Total 5G or 5G+ plan with Total Wireless and score this foldable deal.

Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ in for review

When you think of Galaxy S25 Edge alternatives, your mind doesn't immediately jump to the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+, but maybe it should. This phone is a much closer match to the thin Galaxy than you'd think. At just 5.95mm, it's only slightly thicker than the S25 Edge (5.8mm). The Infinix is lighter, though, at just 155g, and it has a substantially larger 5,160mAh battery. What should sting Galaxy fans more is that the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ also has faster 45W charging. The Hot 60 Pro+ is also a more colorful phone, coming in at no less than seven colorways - Coral Tides, Misty Violet, Cyber Green, Sonic Yellow, as well as the more conservative Titanium Silver and Sleek Black. This green model has what Infinix calls a Scent Weave Leather finish. It's a textured surface with a grippy feel, and it feels excellent to the touch. The Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ feels like a blade in the hand. Its curved front and rear panels are joined by a thin frame, making the package feel very refined. A thin frame The Hot 60 Pro+ looks very similar to the Hot 60 Pro from the front and back. But it's the profile that distinguishes the two. While the Pro+ has curving front and rear panels and a thin frame with rounded corners, the Pro has flat panels and a wide, flat side frame. The Hot 60 Pro is also heavier at 170g and a bit thicker at 6.6mm. The Hot 60 Pro+ on the left, Hot 60 Pro on the right Before we get going, here's a quick unboxing of the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+. It ships with a 45W charger, a USB cable, a tempered glass protector, and a hard plastic case.

iPhone 17 Air's battery leaks and it's ridiculously small

Vlad, 01 August 2025 Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Air this year alongside the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The Air will be very thin and is the replacement for the Plus model in the line, which has been the worst selling by far. To accomplish better success, the iPhone 17 Air will be all about radical slimness, but in the service of that it will only have one rear camera like the iPhone 16e. And it's also been rumored to have a tiny battery. Today a new leak brings us some shots that purportedly show its battery in all its glory, here it is. Alleged shots of the iPhone 17 Air's battery The source of these images tells us to expect the iPhone 17 Air's battery capacity to be "around 2,900 mAh", which even for iPhones (that are notoriously more efficient than Android devices) is incredibly small. For comparison's sake, note that the vanilla iPhone 16 has a 3,561 mAh cell, and that's the smallest one of the family. The iPhone 17 Air's battery will be encased in steel. Such technology was first used for the iPhone 16 Pro last year. The steel case is supposed to improve heat dissipation and battery density thanks to its higher structural resistance. The steel case can also very easily be integrated with the L-shaped design of the phone's inner side, fitting its reduced-size logic board perfectly. The entire iPhone 17 lineup is said to come with new battery adhesives that will serve to make replacements easier. The new devices will be unveiled in September, most likely during the week which commences on September 8. Source
