Nashik cops return items stolen from 45 complainants
Nashik: The city police, at a programme on Friday, handed over recovered articles and goods to as many as 45 complainants.
These goods valued at over Rs51 lakh had been stolen from the complainants and included 33 two-wheelers, two autorickshaws, two cars, a truck, 97g of gold and a cellphone, the police said.
The 'Muddemal' return programme was organised by Zone 2 of the city police commissionerate under the guidance of CP Sandeep Karnik and DCP (Zone 2) Monica Raut.
The articles returned were recovered by the police from Nashik Road, Upnagar, Indiranagar, Ambad, and Saptur police stations after cases were filed in respective stations.
The complainants, especially women who got their gold chains back, expressed gratitude towards the police.
Even complainants whose two-wheelers were stolen said they were grateful to the police for the speedy recovery of their stolen bikes and scooters, which were their important mode of commute to work and home. DCP Raut said they would continue with their efforts to recover maximum stolen properties and hand them to the complainants after completing all legal formalities. In-charge officers of all the police stations under Zone 2 attended the programme.

Similarly in April this year, a 'muddemal' return programme was organised by zone 1 officers of the police commissionerate, recovered articles worth over Rs1.32 crore were returned to complainants on Wednesday. The articles were cash, cellphones, jewellery among other items.

'Beaten with bats, rods, beer bottles and sticks': Civic worker assaulted over banner removal in Karnataka; 7 arrested
HAVERI: Raju Doddamani, a municipal worker, was violently assaulted inside a bar on Saturday evening. The attack, led by transgender person Akshata KC and Shantu Koravar, left Raju with severe injuries. The assailants used cricket bats during the attack. Due to the severity of his injuries, Raju was shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi. Following the incident, Haveri Town Police arrested seven people after registering an FIR. The police have taken Shantappa Koravar, Arjun Koravar, Pratham, Pakiresh Koravar, Mukesh Patel, Prajwal, and Ganesh to their custody. The case is currently being investigated at the Haveri Town Police Station. According to police reports, the conflict originated from the removal of an unauthorised birthday banner following instructions from the City Municipal Council Haveri commissioner on June 7. The attackers specifically chose municipal workers as their targets. In response, the primary accused, Akshata, along with 10 others, entered Lakshmi Venkateshwar Bar and attacked Raju Doddamani whilst he was drinking with friends. They assaulted him with cricket bats, rods, beer bottles, and sticks until he lost consciousness, requiring hospitalisation. The attackers recorded the assault, which later appeared on social media. The entire incident was also captured on CCTV. Municipal workers staged a protest outside Haveri Town Police Station, demanding the arrest of all perpetrators involved in the assault. A 46-year-old woman from Navi Mumbai , Maharashtra, was cheated out of Rs 49.59 lakh by fraudsters, including one pretending to be a customs officer, police said on Sunday. The scam happened between June and August 2024 but came to light after the victim, who lives in Airoli, Navi Mumbai, filed a complaint on Friday at the Rabale police station. The fraud began when a person claiming to be from the United Kingdom contacted the woman on Instagram. Initial investigations show the accused used fake identities. Their real names and addresses have not yet been found. The case is now with the cyber cell for further investigation.
