Charli XCX and new husband George Daniel celebrate wedding with wild afterparty

Metroa day ago
Newlyweds Charli XCX and George Daniel have celebrated their surprise London wedding with a raucous afterparty.
The Brat hitmaker, 32, first announced her engagement to The 1975's drummer in 2023, after they'd dated for a year.
She confirmed that she and George, 35, were now man and wife this weekend as she shared a cheeky behind-the-scenes video to her TikTok account.
Filming herself in her Vivienne Westwood gown, she joked: 'when george isn't crying when he sees me walking down the aisle'. Thankfully, the dress had the desired reaction, with Charli adding: 'luckily he did xx'
Following the intimate ceremony at Hackney Town Hall, the newly-married couple then headed down the road to a local Italian eatery where festivities continued.
And, as the evening progressed, the happy couple partied into the early hours in an increasingly wild afterparty.
As the ceremony ended, Charli and George headed hand-in-hand to the restaurant they had hired out for friends and family.
In a nod to their planned 'second' wedding in Italy later this year, the party kept an Italian theme.
Still dressed in their wedding finery, they ate and drank the evening away there until 10pm, when the evening festivities began.
After eating and drinking their fill, Charli and George snuck off for a quick outfit change, before arriving at Ellie's on Dalston Road at 11pm.
It was then that the party really got underway – with guests piling through the doors for a rave-up which reportedly lasted into the early hours of the morning.
A source shared: 'It was classic Charli – stylish, fun, and totally unexpected. Everyone was in the mood to celebrate! '
This boisterous end to the day came in stark contrast to the intimate ceremony which had preceded it.
According to The Mirror, there had only been 20 friends and family at the wedding, including 1975 drummer George's bandmates Ross MacDonald and Adam Hann. @charlixcx

Frontman Matty Healy wasn't said to be there – although he did reportedly join his 1975 bandmate for a 'wild' stag do in Ibiza beforehand.
Instead, Matty, 36, was spotted in LA on Friday for a screening of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which stars his fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel.
Their low-key nuptials follow reports that Charli and George were planning a blow-out ceremony in Sicily.
An insider told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'Charli and George fell in love with Sicily and knew they wanted to get married there.
'It's incredibly secluded and romantic. There will be no expense spared. It's costing tens of thousands of pounds, and visually it will be mesmerising. More Trending
'Charli and George said they wanted a massive party, and there are no restrictions on when the bar has to close, so it can go on all night.'
Explaining the more laid-back version which occurred this weekend, Charli previously said: 'We're both very chill, and we kind of just want to have a party.
'Neither of us are particularly formal about marriage or care about the formalities of the ceremony or whatever.
'We just want to be together forever and have a party with our friends.'

Charli XCX has made smoking cool again - I wish she hadn't

I can clock the moment I knew smoking had ruined my life. I was lying in bed, wheezing and rattling like a broken engine, my mouth tasted like a pub gutter, and my 25-year-old fingers were yellow. I had officially given up. It was 2021 and I'd been smoking over 10-a-day since I first lit up as a lost teenager looking for a personality. Let's just say after a decade of smoking, there was nothing remotely cool-girl about it. I felt like a slug and resolved to quit. It was the moment I realised that actually, despite previous misconceptions, smoking was decidedly uncool. So I'm worried that now, one of pop's biggest names – Charli XCX – seems determined to make a cigarette this summer's hottest accessory. The Brat queen created a cultural movement behind a luminous green banner – and sadly I've come to realise that cigarettes are synonymous with it. The way she's doggedly glamourised such a dangerous act for a legion of impressionable followers is unforgivable. The Von Dutch hitmaker's wedding to The 1975 drummer George Daniel this weekend saw her handing out a tray of cigarettes on a silver platter for guests. It's all very grim, and a bit 80s. Frankly, in stark contrast to being cool, I think that smoking in 2025 is the biggest try-hard act of them all. It stinks of tar and desperation. When I see Charli lighting up a cigarette on stage, I feel sorry for her. She's one of the biggest, most exciting global megastars on the planet. Brat is genius. Her songwriting is world-class. I love the confidence she instills and inspires in her female fans. She is a rockstar. So why does it feel like she is still so desperate for social clout? What is she trying to prove? I would never judge her for an addiction, of course. I was that person once too. But that is not what's happening here. She's using cigarettes as a glamorous prop. 'It can be like, so trashy,' she said last year, describing Brat. 'Just like a pack of cigs and a Bic lighter. And like, a strappy white top with no bra.' She's explicitly telling fans smoking is Brat. And that's not right. Thankfully, when I stopped smoking through huge mental anguish, I came out the other side armed with wisdom and hope. I used cigarettes to try and fix a little insecure crack in my self-esteem. But they only exacerbated the problem, ripping it into a gaping hole, as I leant on them to make me feel whole. The more I smoked, the more I was left wanting. I was a slave to addiction. I felt tired the whole time, feeding my anxiety with more anxiety, like throwing petrol on a fire in the hope it will stop. I was sluggish, useless, and depressed. My self-esteem took a punch every day when cigarettes began to repulse me, but I would smoke them anyway, again and again, chasing the first-of-the-day high. Without the right support network, I could have easily sank deeper into an ashtray of slobbish self-hate and depression. So why are we allowing cigarettes to be romanticised so easily? They can be mentally and physically damaging. I'm too old and wise to be lured in by Brat aesthetics now. Being cool and clinging onto trends becomes less important when you have a strong sense of self. I did initially love the album, and the vibe. But what I thought was a euphoric celebration of unapologetic self-expression is turning into an uncomfortable, and unhealthy, watch. 32-year-old Charli may also be older and wiser than her legion of party girl followers. I'm sure her tongue is in her cheek, somewhat. But where is her sense of responsibility for her fans? While Brat was a much-needed festival of female hedonism, I am also conscious that many teens who latch onto Charli's wild persona could be vulnerable. They could be like I was: Never content, always looking for a party and the fastest dopamine hit, and desperately insecure. A movement like Brat with a charismatic figurehead like Charli could be the gateway for many young people to take up smoking. It's not just Charli peddling this dangerous smoking trend. I've seen Dua Lipa many times this summer reclined on some European pavement with a cigarette dangling out of her mouth. Addison Rae and Sabrina Carpenter aren't helping either by featuring cigarettes in their videos. Matty Healy is an infamous stage-smoker. More Trending The forced rockstardom of it all feels dated and embarrassing. Quite the contrary of giving off a devil-may-care aura, a cigarette when you're 32 feels like the most blatant indicator that you care so incredibly deeply about what people think, that you're willing to risk your life for it. Charli XCX said Brat will never die. But right now, it's wheezing its way into an early grave. Do you have a story you'd like to share? Tammy Hembrow talks 'falling in love' again as she admits 'going at slower pace'

Tammy Hembrow has wowed fans by sharing some gorgeous new photos of herself in a blue printed dress as she spoke about 'finding love' again and 'going at a slower pace' Australian fitness model and Instagram influencer Temmy Hembrow has been hitting the headlines recently after she announced she was divorcing husband Matt Zukowski last month. The 31-year-old confirmed their split in a TikTok video, as she spoke opening about her 'heartbreak' over their decision to divorce. Tammy and Love Island Australia star Matt, 29, got engaged in December 2023 after just three months of dating. ‌ They then married on November 23, 2024, however decided to split and file for divorce just seven months later. Mum-of-three Tammy has now spoken about finding love again, however it isn't with a man. Instead, the social media star said she has "fallen in love" with where she lives again – which is Queensland, Australia. However, despite this, some fans still speculated she could have found romance again already, or is rekindling things with Matt. ‌ Tammy wrote in the Instagram post: "Lately I've found myself falling in love with where I live all over again. ‌ "The slower pace. The way so many people here have similar mindsets. Being by the ocean. Little moments of kindness from strangers (Had about 100 yesterday.) "I don't think I ever stopped noticing but lately it just feels impossible not to. And I just appreciate it more." ‌ She added: "The beauty is always there. sometimes we just have to slow down enough to see it. "(Also I feel like it should now be a universal rule to do scissors paper rock instead of fighting over a car park x)." She shared the caption alongside pictures of herself in a plunging baby blues printed dress as well as a photo of the ocean, her kids, coffees and a dessert. ‌ People were loving the post, as one person agreed: "A little kindness can honestly make my whole day." While another added: "Beautiful moments add up to a blissful life." ‌ A third chimed in: "Beautiful inside and out! We love this era of Tammy! All the blues too." However, others speculated the post was about her relationship status too. One person said: "I see signs you're falling in love with someone. I may be wrong." ‌ While another asked: "Are you back with Matt?" A representative for Tammy Hembrow has been contacted. Announcing their split on June 21, Tammy said in her TikTok: "This is giving me so much anxiety … I wanted to finally tell you guys that I am going to be getting a divorce." ‌ She then said that she didn't want to go into details about the split or 'bring anyone down." Tammy added: Did I think this was gonna happen? Did I want this? No. Obviously, when you marry someone, you do it thinking that it's gonna be forever. ‌ "And I blame no one but myself, to be honest. "I feel like I've made not the best choices when it comes to relationships. And I feel like I'm really good at putting on rose-colored glasses or just getting swept up in it all." Tammy previously told Vogue Australia that she and Zukowski had 'an instant connection' after meeting online. She said: "From the very first conversation, there was something that sparked between us,' she told the outlet. 'We were inseparable from that very first date!' Tammy has two children – son Wolf, 10, and daughter Saskia, eight – with her ex Reece Hawkins and three–year–old daughter Posy, shared with her former partner Matt Poole.

'I was dress coded by a flight attendant and it left me on the brink of tears'

"It was literally so embarrassing, just being s*** shamed in front of everybody" A woman claimed she was "dress coded" and "sl** shamed" by a flight attendant for what she was wearing on a plane. Singer Jacy boarded a Southwest Airlines flight in 2022 wearing a corset top. ‌ Due to the hot weather, with the temperature around 39C at the time, Jacy and many of her fellow flyers were wearing light clothing. But she was left on the brink of tears after the confrontation. ‌ She alleges that the cabin crew member approached her in front of other passengers and asked her to cover herself up. Not only was she hurt by the comment, Jacy felt she was "more clothed than half the plane". ‌ In a TikTok recorded after the incident, she said that the majority of travellers were wearing shorts and tank tops due to the heat, so she didn't understand why she was picked out - or her outfit deemed inappropriate. Another passenger, an actor called Melinna Bobadilla, stood up for Jacy - and claims she was thrown off the flight for doing so, The Mirror reports. Both women turned to social media in the aftermath of the 'dress coding' incident to tell their stories. Jacy, who goes by the TikTok username @maybejacy, said she was approached before getting on the plane. ‌ She said that the flight attendant tapped her on the shoulder and asked whether she had a jacket or another item of clothing she could use to put over the corset top. Jacy refused and the Southwest Airlines employee said she would get a T-shirt for the flyer to wear over her clothes. Jacy said she wouldn't wear it and boarded the plane as planned. ‌ Posting about the incident, she said: "I was literally going to cry. I was about to cry. It was literally so embarrassing, just being s*** shamed in front of everybody. If it wasn't for this lady [Melinna], my angel, I love her." Her TikTok video has accrued more than 620,000 likes since being posted. In it, Jacy is sitting in her seat holding up the T-shirt in question. ‌ She wrote: 'Bro I got dress coded on a flight? Are we in high school? Are you upset about my shoulders? It's 102F? My torso is fully clothed. And it caused a scene because some sweet lady stuck up for me and then got kicked off the flight." She captioned the video: "Give me my money back... or send me a bottle of expensive champagne." Melinna has since come forward on X, formerly Twitter, to tell her side of the story. She alleged that the flight attendant "became defensive when I asked about what rules the young woman was breaking." ‌ According to Melinna: "She responded with 'She is wearing a corset and this is a family company. Some people find it offensive.' I then told the employee that I felt threatened and offended by the man directly behind me wearing a 'Let's Go Brandon' shirt, and she did not care." She added: "Basically, Southwest Airlines s*** shamed a young woman of colour for wearing a tank top they deemed offensive, forced her to wear a company-issued sweater, removed me for questioning their misogynistic policy, exercised a double standard when enforcing an alleged offensive attire rule ‌ "The raggedy folks at Southwest Airlines in Sacramento disrespected two women of colour, endangered one by needlessly calling the cops, and went out of their way to protect a conservative white man. Yup, that tracks. Southwest Airlines is steamy, stale trash. Go out of business already." Southwest Airlines replied to Melinna's thread, which has been widely retweeted, advising her to message them directly with any further details about her experience. However, Melinna replied: "I don't have faith that this can be rectified via DMs Brenna, unless you are authorised to issue an official apology, reimburse me for all costs incurred related to booking new travel, and issue a check for damages and emotional distress." Melinna went on to claim she had called up the airline, only to be placed on hold for more than an hour on two separate calls, meaning she was unable to resolve the matter. She also advised she will be seeking legal counsel. The Mirror approached Southwest Airlines for comment when the story first came to light in 2022. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
