Hyderabad: Road safety summer camp launched
Hyderabad: Hyderabad City police joint commissioner (traffic) D Joel Davis on Monday launched the Road Safety Summer Camp – 2025 for children at the Traffic Training Institute in Goshamahal.
The summer camp is designed for children aged 10 to 15 years and covers a wide range of topics including traffic awareness and road safety, dance, music, painting, handwriting improvement, and personality development. The primary objective is to create road safety awareness among children, which will go a long way in reducing fatalities caused by road accidents. While addressing the children, Joel Davis emphasised that road accident deaths in India are more than the deaths occurred in wars. He reiterated the message of following safety measures and traffic rules. He appealed to children to advocate road safety to their friends and relatives.
The programme was attended by DCPs (traffic) R Venkateshwarlu and N Ashok Kumar, U Ravinder Reddy, Addl DCP and D Dhana Laxmi, ACP, Dilip Kumar, Department Manager and Zonal Sales Head, Telangana, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd., Saroj Bala, Aryan Dance Academy, Ananth Raj, Raj Events and other instructors and facilitators.

Woman's body found stuffed inside suitcase in Ghaziabad, probe on, say police
The body of a 25-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase in Ghaziabad's Loni border area early on Tuesday morning, police said. 'The suitcase was found on the canal road that goes from Behta Hajipur to Banthla,' said Ajay Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ankur Vihar, Ghaziabad. Police said they received the information around 7:30 am at the control room. A team then reached the spot along with the field unit, said the ACP. 'First, we collected all the necessary evidence from the spot and then opened the suitcase. Inside the suitcase, we found the body of a woman, aged around 25, wearing vermilion and toe rings,' the ACP added. Singh said they have sent the body for a post-mortem. 'We are making all necessary efforts to identify the woman. We will soon nab the accused,' he added. A senior police officer, part of the investigation, said blood oozing out of her nose appeared fresh, indicating she was killed in the late hours of Monday. Since there were no wounds on the body of the woman, the officer said, she could have been suffocated to death or poisoned. 'The exact cause would be clear after the post-mortem. We have formed four teams. Of the two, four are scanning the CCTV footage of the area while two are working to identify her,' the officer said. Model Chai Wali collared: Cops in soup after assault, two shunted to lines
Simran Gupta, a former model, now running a tea stall and popular over the Internet as 'Model Chai Wali', in Madiaon area, was allegedly assaulted by Lucknow police for keeping her shop open late at night, on Monday. The incident, captured on CCTV, has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage. The Lucknow Police in its statement said, 'Police reached the spot after receiving information about a complaint of keeping a tea stall open late at night. The entire case is being investigated by ACP, Aliganj. After completing the investigation, departmental action will be taken against the guilty police personnel.' Late on Tuesday evening, Ram-Ram Bank outpost in-charge Alok Chaudhary, and constable Abhishek Kumar was sent to the police lines (suspended from field duty). A team of police officers, including a female constable, had arrived at Simran's tea stall, accusing her of operating beyond permissible hours. Simran alleges that the in-charge of Ram-Ram Bank Police Outpost, Alok Chaudhary, grabbed her by the collar, pushed her, and attempted to force her into a private vehicle. She further claimed that the police tried to extort money from her. She told HT that she was overseeing construction work at a new shop on Sunday when the police arrived and three male and one female cop allegedly dragged her out of the shop despite it not being open for business. 'When I protested, the police began beating the shop staff,' she said. She further alleged that the female constable had removed her name badge to avoid identification and slapped her multiple times. The cops also attempted to force her into a private vehicle, but she refused and insisted on walking to the Ram-Ram Bank Police Outpost. Angered by her resistance, the police allegedly hurled abusive language at her. As a crowd gathered after Simran raised an alarm, the cops fled the scene. The viral CCTV footage shows a few cops, engaged in an argument, with a female constable seen grabbing Simran's collar and attempting to drag her. While HT could not confirm the identity of those in plain clothes as police personnel, the footage clearly depicts the altercation. Simran has filed a complaint with the Women's Commission regarding the incident. Additional deputy commissioner of police (North), Jitendra Kumar Dubey, stated that the matter came to light through social media, and although no formal complaint has been received from Simran, an investigation based on the video evidence is underway, with appropriate action to follow.

Big crackdown on e-ricks, wrong-side drivers in city
1 2 Nagpur: In a citywide crackdown launched on Tuesday, the traffic police penalised 623 e-rickshaw drivers and 356 motorists for gross violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, exposing the rampant lawlessness plaguing Nagpur's roads. The special drive, led by ACP (Traffic) Madhuri Bawiskar, targeted two major violations — illegal e-rickshaw operations and wrong-side driving. The Sitabuldi zone emerged as the worst affected, with 113 e-rickshaw drivers booked in a single day for offences ranging from lack of registration to operating without a valid driving licence. Ajni (76), Indora (73), and Sonegaon (73) zones also recorded alarmingly high violations, underscoring how unregulated e-rickshaws have infiltrated every corner of the city — even in areas considered relatively well-monitored. Shockingly, many of these e-rickshaws lacked not only proper documents but also basic safety compliance. Traffic officials noted that most drivers were repeat offenders, hinting at failure of existing deterrence mechanisms. The crackdown also revealed the prevalence of wrong-side driving, a dangerous habit responsible for many fatal head-on collisions.
