AMSTERDAM:
BE Semiconductor Industries
(
BESI
) raised its long-term financial targets on Thursday ahead of its investor day, saying the future is bright for its advanced chip stacking tools.
The Dutch firm makes the world's most accurate
hybrid bonding tool
, a critical chip technology allowing multiple chips to be bonded directly on top of each other.
Besi now expects revenue of between 1.5 billion euros and 1.9 billion euros ($1.73 billion-2.19 billion) in the long term, against 1 billion euros forecast earlier, with an operating margin between 40% and 55%, up from 35% to 50%.
The development of artificial intelligence technologies, particularly in data centres, is driving adoption for
chip stacking technologies
, Besi's CEO Richard W. Blickman said in a statement.
As performance gains from shrinking chip features reach physical limits, chipmakers are looking towards advanced packaging technologies such as hybrid bonding to keep making faster and more powerful chips.

Learning a foreign language, life skills must for BE, BTech students

Chennai: Learning a foreign language, life skills, and industry-oriented courses are mandatory for all BE and BTech students who are going to join engineering colleges this year in the state. Anna University 's academic council on Monday approved academic regulations 2025 for BE and BTech programmes offered in around 300 affiliated colleges. According to the new regulations, students must study any one of the foreign languages — German, Japanese, Korean or Dutch — in the second semester. While autonomous colleges are offering foreign language courses, the university has now made it mandatory for affiliated colleges. It has also introduced life skill courses such as patent filing, industry safety norms, welding process, and electronic components in the first two semesters of BE and BTech programmes. The new regulations also allow the affiliated colleges to offer two industry-oriented courses. These will be one-credit courses that can be taught for 15 hours in a semester. Netherlands to start NATO's new Ukraine weapons finance scheme with $578 mln payment

The Netherlands will be the first contributor to NATO's new 'Priority Ukraine Requirements List' (PURL) financing mechanism for Ukraine weapons with a 500 million euros ($578 million) payment, the Dutch defence minister said on Monday. 'Ukraine needs more air defence and ammunition now. As the first NATO ally, the Netherlands will deliver a €500 million package of US weapon systems (including Patriot parts and missiles),' Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans said in a statement on X. 'This helps Ukraine to defend itself and the rest of Europe against Russian aggression,' he added. In a statement posted on the Dutch defence ministry website, the ministry said that other countries have also pledged financing under the new mechanism. The defence ministry said that under the new scheme, Ukraine can draw on US military equipment stocks if these are funded by NATO allies. The United States is releasing military aid in packages worth approximately $500 million, it said, adding that the packages consist of air defence equipment, ammunition and other essential supplies tailored to Ukraine's needs. US President Donald Trump said last month the US would supply weapons to Ukraine, paid for by European allies, but did not provide details on how this would work. Reuters reported on Friday that NATO countries, Ukraine, and the US were developing a new Ukraine weapons financing mechanism.
