Reports: Rays deal C Danny Jansen to Brewers, get Marlins C Nick Fortes
The Rays dealt Jansen to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for infield prospect Jadher Areinamo, MLB.com and The Athletic reported. Separately, the Rays are acquiring Fortes from the Miami Marlins for minor-league outfielder Matthew Etzel, according to multiple reports.
Jansen, 30, was in his first season in Tampa Bay after spending the first seven years of his career with American League East rivals Toronto (2018-24) and Boston (2024). Due to a 2024 Toronto-Boston game that was suspended due to rain and rescheduled, Jansen became the first player in MLB history to play for both teams in a single game.
Jansen was batting just .204 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs in 73 appearances for the Rays.
Fortes, 28, is under club control through 2028 via three years of arbitration. He will join his second MLB club without having to leave the state.
In parts of five seasons with Miami, Fortes has batted .225 with 25 home runs and 96 RBIs over 363 games. That includes a .240 batting average with two homers and 10 RBIs in 59 games in 2025.
Areinamo, 21, is a Venezuela native who joins Tampa Bay's system after batting .297 with 11 homers and 51 RBIs over 94 games this season for High-A Wisconsin.
Etzel, 23, has spent the season at Tampa Bay's Double-A affiliate in Montgomery, where he has batted .230 with five home runs and 34 RBIs in 56 games. He has played all three outfield spots in the minor leagues.

Don't count out the Show Me State just yet. With Kansas eagerly trying to lure the NFL's Chiefs and MLB's Royals across state lines, the reigning AFC champions have made $25,000 in donations to republican candidates for the Missouri House amid the team's ongoing efforts to secure renovation funding for Arrowhead Stadium. The donation, first reported by the Missouri Independent , comes shortly after a $1.5 billion stadium funding plan was approved by the state legislature in hopes of convincing the Chiefs and MLB's Royals to remain in Missouri. The Missouri Independent reports the Chiefs spent more than $3 million and the Royals added another $2.5 million last year to support a ballot measure extending sales taxes to fund renovations at Arrowhead Stadium as well as a new ballpark in downtown Kansas City. The donations come at a convenient time for team officials and representatives hoping to avoid the negative publicity that typically comes with publicly funded stadium constructions and renovations. Not only are the Chiefs gearing up for another Super Bowl run - potentially the final chance for 35-year-old Travis Kelce - but the tight end also welcomed girlfriend and Donald Trump nemesis Taylor Swift onto his popular podcast this week , thereby drawing the spotlight away from Arrowhead Stadium's future . Meanwhile, with fans focused on the Chiefs' immediate future, team officials have pressed ahead with varying options for a future home. After decades of playing alongside each other at the Truman Sports Complex, the Chiefs and Royals will each see their respective leases expire in January of 2031. While the Chiefs have supported republican candidates in this effort, the Missouri Independent reports that two GOP state legislators filed lawsuits in July to defeat the measure, which they called 'unconstitutional' because it also addressed matters unrelated to stadiums. Despite Missouri's efforts, neighboring Kansas remains a potential destination for both the Chiefs and Royals. Last month, a committee in the Kansas legislature extended a deadline for both teams to accept state financing for new stadiums. And the teams are hearing competitive offers from both Kansas and Missouri. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe initially approved legislation to authorize bonds to pay for up to 50 percent of the cost of stadium construction (Royals) and renovation (Chiefs). Kansas responded by offering bonds that could cover 70 percent of those costs should either team choose to switch states, but Missouri has since followed with an additional funding package. 'We've had more meetings, more discussions,' Chiefs president Mark Donovan said in July. 'At this point it's literally - you're taking an agreement this long and whittling it down to this paragraph and this line, and we need an agreement on this, and we're doing this on both sides. You're in that process where you're not sure which way it will go.' Previously, in April of 2024, Jackson County rejected a sales tax proposal that would have helped to renovate Arrowhead Stadium while providing the Royals with a ballpark in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Now the teams are fighting separate battles to secure their future homes.

Cubs calling up top prospect OF Owen Caissie
August 14 - Outfielder Owen Caissie, the No. 1 prospect in the Cubs' minor league system, is expected to join Chicago Thursday in Toronto. The Cubs were set to officially call up Caissie from Triple-A Iowa before the game in Toronto, but manager Craig Counsell told reporters he wasn't sure if Caissie would arrive in time to play. "I'd love to have him be in the lineup, but we're just gonna wait and see what his scheduled arrival time is," Counsell told reporters a bit more than two hours prior to game time. If Caissie doesn't arrive to Toronto in time to play, his first MLB chance would have to wait until Friday, when the Cubs open a three-game home series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. MLB Pipeline ranks Caissie as the No. 45 overall prospect in baseball. On the season, he is hitting .289 with 100 hits, 26 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs and 52 RBIs in 93 games. Caissie, 23, was selected in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres. He is the highest-ranked Canadian outfielder ever drafted. With the 2020 minor league season canceled because of the pandemic, Caissie never played in the Padres organization. He was traded to the Cubs along with three other prospects and right-hander Zach Davies in the seven-player deal that sent right-hander Yu Davish and catcher Victor Caratini to the Padres in December 2020. If Caissie arrives in time for the game, he'll be playing in front of the home folks. He is from Burlington, Ont., about a 70-minute drive to Rogers Centre in Toronto.
