Trea Turner has already checked off some of baseball's biggest accomplishments in his 11-year career—an NL batting title and a World Series championship among them. But now, the Philadelphia Phillies' shortstop finds himself associated with an entirely different kind of accolade—an
Emmy Award
.
Trea Turner isn't just a baseball champ—now he's an Emmy winner too
While Turner doesn't personally own the Emmy, he proudly hoisted it ahead of the Phillies' game against the Toronto Blue Jays in celebration of The Turnaround, a short sports documentary that captured his dramatic 2023 mid-season revival. The film, which documented how Philadelphia fans rallied around the struggling star, took home the Sports Emmy for Best Short Documentary in May.
'Trea Turner's an Emmy winner, absolutely,' said Kyle Thrash, the film's director.
'He definitely held it up like he owned it.'

At the core of the documentary is Jon McCann—known by fans as "The Philly Captain"—whose mental health journey and emotional connection with Turner served as a powerful narrative thread. After batting practice, McCann shook Turner's hand and beamed, 'Cuz, we did it, huh?! Trea Turner, we share an Emmy together.'
In August 2023, Turner's first season under an 11-year, $300 million contract had hit a rough patch.
He was batting just .238, had only 11 home runs, and had been demoted to eighth in the lineup. The Phillies fan base, notorious for its tough love, decided to rally behind him instead. During a home series against the Kansas City Royals, they gave Turner repeated standing ovations—something rarely seen in Philly for underperforming stars.
The support sparked something remarkable. Over that weekend series, Turner responded with a 4-for-12 performance that included two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs.
His momentum carried through the rest of the season, helping lead the Phillies into the playoffs.
To return the love, Turner later funded digital billboards across Philadelphia that simply read 'Thank You, Philly.'
'It's pretty incredible,' Thrash said. 'We get to bring a trophy back to the ballpark tonight and share it with so many people that were involved in the standing ovation.'
The documentary was produced by Higher Ground, the media company founded by Barack and Michelle Obama, adding another layer of prestige to the project.
During the Emmy ceremony, McCann recalled bracing for disappointment. 'During the ceremony, one of the award presenters said, 'When you go up against the Olympics, you lose.' So I kind of thought we already lost,' he said. 'We didn't. It was a great, great shock.'
In a season filled with drama, resilience, and connection, Turner's story was no longer just about baseball. Thanks to the city that believed in him and a documentary that captured it all, his comeback earned more than redemption—it earned an Emmy.

Gambhir's Abuse To Akash Deep's Hug: 4 Controversies At The Oval Creating Headlines

India's fifth Test against England at The Oval is not even halfway done but there have been enough controversies to fill up a newspaper. (AP) They began even before the Test started -- with Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir fighting with and abusing the head groundsman Lee Fortis over some alleged restrictions placed on the Indian team. (PC: Screengrab) Trescothick suggested that many players would have reacted more aggressively to such a gesture. Ricky Ponting was asked if in his time, he'd have punched the bowler and he agreed. (PTI Photo) Soon after Duckett's wicket, Prasidh Krishna provoked an angry reaction out of Joe Root by telling him he was "looking in great shape," which ended in an on-field spat between the two. (PC: X/Screengrab) Prasidh was heavily criticised on social media and later explained that it was part of India's plan to unsettle Root but admitted he didn't expect such a strong response from the England batter. (Picture Credit: AFP) Then, just before the close of play, Duckett sparked further controversy by sledging Sai Sudharsan after his dismissal. (PC: X) Fans on X dropped sarcastic comments in response, believing that Duckett was as deserving of criticism as Prasidh and Akash Deep. The series is coming to its finish line, but there's no sign of tensions slowing down. (AP Photo)

Will Trump pardon Sean ‘Diddy' Combs? Here's why he likely won't

Donald Trump says he's still weighing whether to grant a presidential pardon to Sean 'Diddy' Combs. Trump suggested he might evaluate a pardon for Sean 'Diddy' Combs based on facts and fairness rather than public sentiment. (Reuters/AP) Diddy, who is currently jailed at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center, was recently found guilty on two out of five federal charges following a closely watched trial in early July. He was acquitted of the most serious accusations, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy. Still, the verdict landed him behind bars, despite multiple requests for bail. Following the verdict, Trump told Newsmax, 'He was celebrating a victory, but he seems, I guess it wasn't as good of a victory.' He called the mixed outcome 'half-innocent.' But now that the rapper has formally asked for presidential clemency, Trump appears reluctant. 'Probably — hmm,' he said when asked about it. 'You know, I was very friendly with him. I get along with him great. Seemed like a nice guy. I didn't know him well. But when I ran for office, he was very hostile.' Diddy's past words haunt him as Trump leans 'no' on pardon Interestingly, Trump once attended Diddy's famous parties, and during an episode of Celebrity Apprentice, he even vouched for the rapper when contestant Aubrey O'Day, a former member of Diddy's girl group Danity Kane, seemed hesitant to talk about him. However, Diddy publicly criticized Trump during his presidency in 2020, saying, 'White men like Trump need to be banished.'. 'It's hard, you know, like we're human beings and we don't like to have things cloud our judgment,' the POTUS told Newsmax. 'But when you know something and you were fine and then you run for office and he made some terrible statements, so I don't know… it's more difficult, makes it more difficult, I'm being honest, it makes it more difficult to do.' 'The White House will not confirm or deny pardons that may or may not happen,' a source told Mirror US.

What is Showrunner, the AI that can generate entire episodes of TV shows?

As the world is coming to terms with AI generating a few seconds of realistic videos, Amazon has just invested in a company that has a system that can generate entire 22-minute-long TV shows. The company Fable Studio has introduced a platform called Showrunner, which is capable of generating entire episodes with coherent plots, character development, and dialogue that sounds similar to any popular show. Showrunner is essentially the first streaming platform for AI-generated shows. Subscribers of the platform are able to watch AI-generated series and also create their own content. They will have complete control over dialogues, characters, and camera angles. As of now, Showrunner is limited to animation and cannot yet create live-action shots. The AI platform has been created by San Francisco-based startup Fable Studio. The Emmy-winning company's platform can write, voice, and animate episodes of its shows with generative AI. Users can create videos by simply using prompts in natural language. Reportedly, upon its initial release, users will be able to watch and create AI content. The Showrunner system uses something known as a multi-agent simulation that brings AI characters to life and lets them interact and develop relationships over time. Reportedly, users can insert themselves as South Park characters and become a part of the story. To generate a video episode, users simply need to write simple prompts that include the title and the main plotline. Reportedly, the characters generated through the platform show consistent personalities and are capable of remembering past interactions. Some reports claim that each episode takes nearly three hours of simulation time to generate. The company had conducted a closed alpha test with over 10,000 users for months before it was launched. In order to use Showrunner, users are required to sign in to the Discord group chat platform. It is reported that initially, Showrunner will be free to use; however, Fable will gradually begin charging creators about $10 to $20 per month, which will allow them credits to create about hundreds of TV scenes. Meanwhile, viewing this AI-generated content will be free, and users or anyone can share it on YouTube or other platforms. The new platform signals a shift in video generation with AI, as several other companies, such as Runway, DecartAI, Pika Labs, Odyssey, World Labs, and Google's Veo 3 and Genie 2, are paving the way for newer and more advanced video creations. Amazon's investment in Fable comes at a time when there is a raging debate about using AI to alter the endings of films and television shows. Recently, Bollywood filmmaker Anand L. Rai expressed his displeasure with the AI-altered ending of his 2013 hit 'Raanjhanaa.' The production house has offered an AI-assisted happy ending to the original story. 'AI is the future. Everybody knows that. But then use it for the future or for the present. Don't use it to distort the past!' Rai told in a statement to The Indian Express. This type of tech signals a new wave where users will be able to create personalised entertainment experiences with simple prompts. It seems we are moving into a space where all kinds of content will be created using AI customised to their personal preferences. Users will be able to generate episodes where they are the protagonists and have storylines tailored to their interests. Also, if this technology is to make rapid strides, the entertainment industry is likely to take a massive hit.
