H.E. Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Senior Vice President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), met with Seungmin Ryu, President of the Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC), on the sidelines of the ongoing ITTF meetings following the conclusion of the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships – Doha 2025 on Sunday. The meeting marked first official engagement between the two National Olympic Committees since Ryu's election earlier this year. A highly respected figure in international sport, Ryu brings to his leadership deep experience as both an Olympic champion and a long-time contributor to Olympic institutions, including his role as Chairman of the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation. The leaders exchanged views on strengthening cooperation between Qatari and Korean sports institutions, with particular emphasis on Olympic development, legacy planning, and strategic engagement across both summer and winter disciplines. The conversation also reflected the shared ambition of both NOCs to deepen cross-regional partnerships and advance sport as a platform for long-term collaboration. In attendance at the meeting was His Excellency Jassim Rashid Al Buenain, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee. As two countries with growing global sporting footprints and complementary expertise, the meeting reaffirmed the value of sustained dialogue and institutional exchange between Qatar and the Republic of Korea, both as committed members of the Olympic movement and as strategic partners in sport.

QNA Doha The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced that Al Rayyan Club has been selected to participate in the Gulf Champions League. The federation stated on its 'X' platform account that Al Rayyan will represent Qatari football in the regional competition for the upcoming 2025-2026 season. Al Rayyan was selected to participate in the tournament after finishing fifth in the 2024-2025 Ooredoo Stars League. The club will participate alongside seven other clubs approved by the Gulf Cup Federation to participate in the next edition of the tournament: Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia, Al Ain of the UAE, Al Qadisiyah of Kuwait, Al Nahda of Oman, Zakho of Iraq, Al Tadamon Hadramaut of Yemen, and Sitra of Bahrain. The tournament will kick off in October, preceded by a draw, which will divide the teams into two groups, with the first and second place winners from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. Iraqi club Duhok holds the title of the previous edition of the tournament after they beat Kuwaiti club Al Qadisiyah in the final.

Tribune News Network Doha The Arab Camel Racing Federation (ACRF), headed by Abdullah Al Kuwari and members of its Executive Committee, announced its full support for the candidacy of Qatar Olympic Committee President His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the elections scheduled to be held early next year. In an official statement, the federation affirmed that this support stems from 'a firm conviction that the next phase of Asian sports requires leadership with experience, vision, and international standing, fully aware of the diversity of the continent and the unique characteristics of its people, and a balance between development and sporting and cultural identity.' The statement stressed that the federation, which includes a wide Arab membership spanning from the Gulf to the Atlantic, views Sheikh Joaan's candidacy as a real opportunity to redefine the relationship between sports and identity in Asia, in line with the aspirations, history, and conscience of the people. It noted that His Excellency Sheikh Joaan 'has a strong presence in the sporting scene, supporting major events and sports deeply rooted in the popular conscience, such as camel racing, which represents a profound cultural and heritage dimension.' ACRF emphasized that supporting this candidacy represents not only a Qatari position, but also 'a sincere Arab ambition that believes that sports are the voice and memory of the people, not just medals and races.' The Arab Federation for Camel Racing is a unifying platform for camel racing across the Arab world. It seeks to preserve the cultural heritage associated with camel racing, while supporting its organizational and field development at the regional and international levels.

AFC Kuala Lumpur In a new achievement for the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, Dr. Khalid Abdulrahman Yousef Al Khulaifi, Consultant Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon and Director of the Visiting Surgeons Program at Aspetar, representing the QFA, received the prestigious Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Excellence Award during a ceremony held on the sidelines of the 8th AFC Medical Conference 2025, currently being held inKuala Lumpur. The award ceremony was attended by AFC leaders, the Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports, and a number of invited medical experts from the region. The annual award is given to young medical talents under the age of 45, in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the fields of scientific research, the development of medical services, and the enhancement of professional training programs in football. This award is one of the most prominent honors granted by the AFC, having been first launched at the AFC Congress in India in 2015. It continued to celebrate young medical talents in China (2019), and will continue until the eighth edition in Malaysia in 2025. It aims to highlight the pivotal role of young doctors in supporting and developing football in the medical and research fields. The international honour bestowed represents a high-level recognition of Dr. Khalid Al Khelaifi's distinguished career in the field of sports medicine, and consolidates the leadership of Qatari medical talents on the continental and global arenas. His continued research, innovation, and training reflect absolute dedication and continuous giving in the service of sports and medicine. Dr. Khalid Al Khelaifi has previously served as Medical Director for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, in addition to heading a number of medical committees as Sports Director, such as the 2023 Asian Cup and the Asian Youth Cup, in addition to numerous sports tournaments held in Qatar.
