Her exit comes a day after Grok, X's artificial intelligence model, went haywire and started posting antisemitic and pro-Hitler responses. A number of X users responded to her post on Wednesday, asking if the Grok incident played a role in her leaving the company.
Yaccarino was named the chief executive of X in June 2023, less than a year after Musk bought the platform formerly known as Twitter. She joined X after leaving NBCUniversal, where she was the chairman of global advertising and partnerships, and her move to Musk's platform shocked many in the industry.
Yaccarino, soon after joining the company, said she was committed to what Musk called his 'Freedom of speech, not freedom of reach' approach, where the platform was less focused on censoring and kicking off users than under its previous leadership.
'X is enabling an information independence that's uncomfortable for some people,' Yaccarino said in 2023. 'We're a platform that allows people to make their own decisions.'
She said that perspective put X at the 'unique and amazing intersection of Free Speech and Main Street' and would make it more appealing to advertisers. After a rocky few years, that bet appeared to pay off, with advertisers like Disney and Apple returning to the platform following controversial comments from Musk. Trimming costs and headcount also helped X bounce back to a $44 billion valuation, the same price Musk paid for it, before it was acquired by Musk's AI platform in March.
Critics, meanwhile, have said X has become more toxic than ever under its more relaxed approach to censorship. Many users ditched X after the 2024 election and headed to Bluesky, which some left-leaning users dubbed 'Blue Heaven,' in protest of Musk and his support for President Trump.
'Thank you for your contributions,' Musk posted in response to Yaccarino, about 40 minutes after she announced her exit.
His curt five word reply stood in contrast to the 213 word farewell Yaccarino sent out. Reps for X did not immediately respond to TheWrap's request for comment on who will run the company following Yaccarino's exit.

Microsoft has a new trick to improve laptop battery life on Windows
Microsoft has started testing a new feature in Windows 11 that will improve laptop battery life. A new adaptive energy saver mode will soon automatically enable or disable the main energy saver mode, based on your laptop's workload rather than just its amount of battery life left. The energy saver mode in Windows 11 typically dims a display brightness by 30 percent, disables transparency effects, and stop apps running in the background. Non-critical Windows update downloads are also paused, and certain apps like OneDrive, OneNote, and Phone Link may not sync fully while energy saver is enabled. This new adaptive energy saver mode, which will only be available on devices with a battery, will automatically enable or disable without affecting screen brightness. That will make it less noticeable on devices like laptops, tablets, and handhelds. 'Adaptive energy saver is an opt-in feature that automatically enables and disables energy saver, without changing screen brightness, based on the power state of the device and the current system load,' explains Microsoft's Windows Insider team. Microsoft has started testing this with Canary Channel Windows 11 testers recently, so expect to see it appear in Windows 11 later this year. While you won't be able to use this new adaptive energy saver mode on desktop PCs, Microsoft brought its main energy saver mode to all PCs last year, allowing even desktop PCs to save on electricity usage.

Every Best Buy store will have Nintendo Switch 2 consoles on July 17th
It's been over a month since the Switch 2's record-breaking launch, and the console is becoming easier to get with each restock. However, if you've been waiting for the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza to buy one, Best Buy sneakily announced that its next in-store restock will happen Thursday, July 17th, the game's launch day. Every Best Buy location will have consoles in stock. Best Buy's in-store restock announcement doesn't mention whether both the standalone console ($449.99) and Mario Kart World bundle ($499.99) will be available, or if one will be available in higher quantities than the other.
