England star Hannah Hampton opens up on health condition and turning down surgery
England's football sensation, Hannah Hampton, has opened up about her ongoing battle with a long-term eye condition, revealing that despite multiple surgeries, her eyes are "still not straight".
The Lioness goalkeeper played a pivotal role in England's recent Euros triumph, fending off numerous Spanish attempts during the penalty shoot-out.
Despite suffering from strabismus - an eye condition that affects depth perception - the 24 year old has shown her mettle on the pitch. During her appearance on Good Morning Britain today, she confessed to still experiencing difficulties with her vision.
Hannah disclosed that while further surgery for her eye condition is an option, she is reluctant to take the risk. This revelation comes after her triumphant Euros win, defying doctors who had previously told her she wouldn't be able to play football, reports the Mirror.
In conversation with GMB's Ed Balls and Kate Garraway, Hannah elaborated: "I was born cross-eyed, I had to undergo multiple surgeries from when I was three and obviously later to correct my vision. To put my eyes straight again, to see if it would help in any way.
"They're still not straight. I can go back for more operations but there's always that risk that it won't improve your eyesight. It might make it worse. It's something you've got to weigh up."
When presenter Ed noted that things seem to be going rather well for the England star, she responded: "I know! So why change it if it's going well."
She later revealed how medics advised her to quit football as a youngster because of her vision problems. "The doctor said I shouldn't play sports because I don't have any depth perception, which basically [means] I can't judge distances.
"Which as a keeper, I don't know how it works, but my parents never really told me until I was about 12 or 13 and I was already playing sport... and they would say 'this isn't normal, you shouldn't be doing that' but my parents always said 'if it makes her happy, we're not going to stop her' and I'm glad they didn't take the doctor's advice as I managed to live out my dream."
Earlier this week, the football ace disclosed that she had been coping with the devastating loss of her grandfather, who passed away just two days before the Euros kicked off. "Dear Grandpa," she posted on Instagram.
"Two days before the biggest tournament of my life, you left. It still doesn't feel real.
"I kept thinking when I'd call nannie I'd hear your voice again - one of your jokes, or one of those little comments you'd make that somehow said everything without saying much at all. You were one of my biggest supporters. You believed in me before I even knew what this journey would look like."
She further expressed her sorrow that he wasn't able to see her debut at her first major tournament, stating: "But I know, deep down, you were still there. I felt you with me. In the tunnel. On the pitch. In the tough moments. I heard you in my head when I needed strength."

Liverpool's Main Stand at Anfield evacuated minutes before match due to start
Liverpool's Main Stand at Anfield evacuated minutes before match due to start Anfield was evacuated on Sunday just minutes before Liverpool were due to take on Athletic Bilbao in a pre-season friendly after an alarm went off in the main stand. Fans leave Anfield after the stadium was evacuated (Image: PA) Anfield's Main Stand was cleared ahead of Liverpool's friendly encounter with Athletic Bilbao. The fixture was due to kick off at 5pm, with a second match against the same opponents scheduled for 8pm. Fans were led away from the ground after an alarm sounded, just as they were taking their places. The reason behind the evacuation remains unclear at present. The Reds are preparing for the forthcoming Premier League campaign, with a mixture of established stars and academy prospects set to face their Spanish visitors across two separate fixtures. Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Kostas Tsimikas and Andy Robertson are amongst the senior squad members named for the opening contest. These twin friendlies represent Liverpool's maiden appearance at Anfield since the devastating passing of Diogo Jota. The 28-year-old lost his life tragically in a motor vehicle collision alongside his brother Andre Silva last month, reports the Liverpool Echo. Article continues below Writing in his programme notes, skipper Virgil van Dijk observed: "It has, of course, been a very challenging time. "First and foremost for Diogo and Andre's family, for Rute and the kids. They are the people who must always come first in all of this. We must never forget that, and we cannot imagine their pain in this moment. "It is still a bit surreal, to be honest, but we are coping in the best way possible as a team, and we are all trying to do the best job we can in order to get through this really difficult time. "With everything that happened, it has been strange having to now try to carry on with work, with football. We will never forget Diogo, of course, but we just have to try to honour his memory. That's what we try to do each and every day. "I always come back to the fact that we have to look after Diogo's family, his parents, and that's the main thing. "You think about so many different things, and it's difficult to process. You can't imagine the pain, the feeling that they have. That's why we try to be there as much as we can, and for each other as well. Article continues below "That's also why it is very important that we honour and carry on his legacy, not only for now and the next couple of months, but for as long as we can, because that is what he deserves."

Michelle Agyemang displays true colours as she shows Sarina Wiegman how she feels
Michelle Agyemang emerged as an England hero during the Lionesses' triumph at Euro 2025 and the forward has spoken honestly about manager Sarina Wiegman England hero Michelle Agyemang has revealed how Lionesses' manager Sarina Wiegman played a crucial role in her success during Euro 2025. The Lionesses defended the European Championship trophy after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Spain. Agyemang may not have been one of the penalty takers in the final, but she contributed significantly to England's triumphant campaign. Despite having only one previous appearance before the tournament, scoring on her Lionesses debut in April, the 19-year-old was named in Wiegman's squad. The manager's bold decision paid off as Agyemang quickly established herself as England's super-sub, netting late equalisers against Sweden and Italy in the knockout rounds. The young Arsenal prospect had nothing but praise for Wiegman when asked for her thoughts on the England boss. "I think Sarina's amazing," Agyemang told Sky News. "I only met her probably three months before the tournament and to see the faith she put me in from day one, to make my debut in April. "To only have one appearance going into the Euros, to show that faith and that trust in me, shows how lovely she is as a woman and a coach. "She's like a mum to the team. She respects all of us and she wants the best for us. You can see it, we all want to play for her, for the rest of the team, and to go and win the game for her because she deserves it." Wiegman has now guided England to consecutive European Championship victories, after the team's Wembley triumph over Germany to win Euro 2022. The Lionesses' most recent silverware represents the first occasion that either the men's or women's senior team have claimed a major tournament on foreign soil. Agyemang wasn't included in the England squad until this year, but did have the chance to watch the Lionesses closely as a ball girl during one of Wiegman's first matches in charge at Wembley in 2021. Despite her lack of experience, Agyemang claimed the Young Player of the Tournament award and has truly impressed the England boss. "She has something special," Wiegman said following Agyemang's 96th-minute semi-final goal against Italy. "She's only 19 years old, she's very mature, she knows exactly what she has to do. "When you talk about little things that she picks up straight away, because she's not only in the 18-yard box very dangerous but when we have to go to her as a target player, she keeps the ball really well too. "Even when you saw her shot hit the crossbar, that was not just a shot, she was aiming for it. If she continues like this she has a very bright future." Agyemang earned her England call-up following impressive displays on loan at Brighton in the WSL last season. Wiegman revealed that Agyemang's approach to her loan spell showed that the young striker, who now boasts three goals in five England appearances, would thrive at international level. When asked whether Agyemang's performances had caused a selection dilemma during the tournament, the England manager explained: "She's not forcing me. She is very grateful that she gets minutes. She's ready for it. Her growth and development went so quickly. "From not starting at Brighton and being on loan, to getting lots more minutes, showing how good she is, and coming into our team, as things go it has been pretty smooth for her and I think she feels very good about that."
