Dubai: The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) has launched the 'Empowering Future Leaders' programme. The programme was announced during a special event attended by Her Excellency Hessa Bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority (CDA).
The programme, designed for the leadership of CDA, reflects MBRSG's commitment to enhancing the competencies of government professionals in line with the UAE's vision to develop human capital. It equips future leaders to adapt to rapid transformations and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The programme aims to equip leaders within CDA through a comprehensive training package that embeds best practices in the latest academic curricula. It seeks to develop leadership, strategic, and digital skills, as well as enhance effective planning, with emphasis on institutional innovation and future foresight.
Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of the Community Development Authority in Dubai, stated: 'The program aims to enhance leadership capabilities in strategic management, digital leadership, and institutional innovation by equipping participants with the necessary skills to navigate future challenges. Through our collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, we are committed to providing a comprehensive educational framework that empowers employees to achieve institutional excellence. We are confident that this program will have a significant impact on advancing leadership performance, strengthening the Authority's ability to contribute to the UAE's vision for sustainable government excellence.'
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG), said: 'The launch of the 'Empowering Future Leaders' programme reflects our commitment to enhancing applied learning and equipping government leaders with the tools to navigate rapid transformations, aligning with the leadership's vision.'
He added: 'The programme aims to prepare a new generation of distinguished leaders capable of addressing future challenges through innovative and effective solutions. It seeks to empower the participants to make informed decisions in different situations, foster a culture of innovation and creativity in the workplace, and lead the teams efficiently.'
The programme includes a comprehensive range of training activities, including academic lectures, workshops, and practical case studies. It adopts an integrated approach that combines face-to-face learning, e-learning, and self-directed learning, enabling participants to apply acquired knowledge in the workplace with flexibility. It also features executive projects, sessions with accomplished leaders, and field visits to strengthen the participants' understanding of best practices in government administration.
The programme aims to achieve several key outcomes, including the development of effective leadership skills, enhancing strategic thinking, empowering participants to make informed decisions in diverse situations, promoting a culture of innovation and creativity in the workplace, and leading teams with high efficiency.
The 'Empowering Future Leaders' programme spans six months and comprises 110 training hours, including in-person and online sessions, as well as practical activities, to ensure participants gain maximum benefit. The first phase of the programme includes an introductory session and a workshop on leadership and influence, followed by an intensive in-person training programme covering topics such as management and institutional understanding, future foresight, institutional innovation, and digital leadership.
The programme also offers recorded e-learning content through the Smart Executive Education Platform, enabling participants to engage with the material flexibly while fulfilling their professional responsibilities.

The Youth Charter ( a pioneering social legacy organisation dedicated to sport for development and peace, has issued a statement urging greater cohesion, accountability, and youth inclusion in the global delivery of sport-based initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In response to the outcomes of the recent IOC 355 Sustainability Summit, the Youth Charter welcomed the ambition and progress presented through the IOC's Olympism365 programme, with over 550 projects across 175 countries. However, the Charter emphasised that meaningful impact can only be achieved through unified action, public transparency, and intergenerational collaboration. 'Potential alone is not progress. The Olympic Movement must now shift from vision to delivery—co-creating with youth, investing in communities, and reporting with integrity,' said Geoff Thompson, Founder and Chair of the Youth Charter. Key Observations Highlighted in the Youth Charter Response: Leadership without Local Alignment: Only 10% of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) have public sustainability strategies, revealing a critical gap between global vision and national implementation. Lack of Transparent Reporting: The IOC has not released a sustainability report since 2019. Without annual, independent reporting, public trust and measurable accountability are compromised. Safeguarding&Mental Health: Positive strides were announced, but implementation at scale—particularly in the Global South—remains inconsistent and underfunded. Non-binding Targets: The withdrawal of Brisbane 2032's 'climate positive' goal raises urgent questions about the enforceability of sustainability commitments. Absence of Youth Voice: Despite sport's potential to empower young people, youth were largely absent from the Summit's strategic focus and decision-making platforms. Youth Charter Global Call 2 Action – Five-Point Plan: Unified SDG Framework: Embed the UN SDGs across all Olympic bodies with measurable targets and community accountability. Annual Impact Reporting: Commit to public, independent sustainability reporting across all levels of the Olympic Movement. Youth and Community Engagement Taskforce: Establish a cross-sector platform to amplify youth voice in strategy, delivery, and evaluation. Local Ecosystem Collaboration: Strengthen links between NOCs and local education, health, and community networks to ensure inclusive implementation. Investment in Social Legacy Infrastructure: Redirect long-term funding into community-based sport infrastructure, youth employment, and safeguarding systems. 'Young people are not just spectators or beneficiaries. They are the change-makers. The time has come to engage them as equal partners in shaping sport's global impact,' added Thompson. As the world prepares for Paris 2024 and looks toward the final phase of Olympic Agenda 2020+5, the Youth Charter is calling on the IOC, National Olympic Committees, and all sport stakeholders to recommit to the true spirit of Olympism —as a force for health, peace, equity, and sustainable change. Dubai: 10,000 children get Eidiya from authority in 'cherished tradition'

In a heartwarming gesture, authorities in Dubai have distributed Eidiya (Eid gift money) to 10,000 children, an authority said on Thursday, June 5. The children were from families benefitting from Community Development Authority services, the statement said. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Director General of CDA, said: "The Eidiya is not just financial support; it's a heartfelt message meant to bring joy to children during these blessed days and to make them feel valued and cared for." "Giving Eidiya is a cherished tradition in our culture, and the happiness it brings to children is truly priceless,' she added. This was organised under the 'Eidiya' initiative, and in collaboration with the Endowments and Minors' Trust Foundation (AWQAF Dubai). The initiative also aligns with the goals of the 'Year of Community'. Earlier, Dubai Police in an effort to make Eid special for female inmates distributed clothing and organised special programmes as part of their ongoing humanitarian and social efforts.

Africa's industrial moment can't wait. With the promise of a 1.5-billion-person market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), a rising generation of innovators, and deep untapped industrial potential, Africa is laying the groundwork for a new era of production. But momentum alone isn't enough. The question now is whether this shift can be matched by the right kind of policy and delivery and that's where The United Nations Industrial Development Organization's (Unido) latest Africa Industrial Development Report comes in. I had the opportunity to speak at the report launch in Johannesburg last month. The report focuses on a new era of industrial policy in Africa through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals. It zeroes in on three critical goals: SDG 7 on clean and affordable energy, SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth, and SDG 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure. The message was clear that Africa is at a critical inflection point with progress within reach if we act boldly to close the gaps in energy access, job creation and industrial capacity. On SDG 7, there's good news and tough news in the report. Energy access across the continent now sits at 58 percent, improving faster than any other indicator at 1.12 percentage points per year. But the continent is still 67 percentage points behind on clean energy. North Africa is pulling ahead on both access and affordability, with Southern and Northern Africa leading on clean energy adoption. Our renewables, sun, wind, hydro, and geothermal, give us a real chance to leapfrog into a clean energy future. However, we won't get there without investment in generation, grids and local capacity to manufacture clean technology. On SDG 8, the challenge is how Africa translates economic growth into jobs. The data shows that growth was slowing before COVID-19, exposing deep structural weaknesses. Youth unemployment and gender inequality continue to rise. When you zoom in, the picture is mixed: North Africa has had strong GDP growth but has struggled to convert this into job creation. Southern Africa faces a dual challenge of sluggish growth and high unemployment. Eastern Africa is faring better on both fronts, with relatively stronger growth and job creation. Central Africa, meanwhile, lags across the board a clear signal for urgent and targeted reform. SDG9 is where the continent appears to be furthest off track. The continent's performance in industry, innovation and infrastructure is lagging significantly. Infrastructure investment was gaining traction before the pandemic but has since lost steam. So, how do we shift gears? Private sector leadership and government coordination are two non-negotiables. Let's start with the private sector. Across Africa, private enterprise drives 90 percent of production, 80 percent of employment, and 70 percent of GDP. You simply can't design credible or effective industrial strategy and policy without this demographic in the room. Private sector-led growth isn't a nice-to-have — it's the engine of jobs, exports and resilience. Yet, too often, industrial strategies are designed in isolation, without meaningful input from the very firms expected to utilise them. That needs to change. Going forward, governments should institutionalise structured public–private dialogue not just at launch but throughout the entire policy cycle. This means engaging businesses early, co-developing sector roadmaps, and creating feedback loops to adjust policies in real time. Government coordination is the next lever for government to move beyond good intentions. Many countries have well-articulated industrial plans, but their impact is often diluted by overlapping mandates, weak inter-ministerial coordination, and a disconnect between strategy and delivery. What's needed is a 'full stack' approach to industrial policy that moves from ambition to action. This starts with strategy. Industrial policy must be anchored in a national vision and championed at the highest level. All ministries from finance and trade to energy and education need to be aligned behind a single direction of travel. But a strategy is only useful if it's translated into investable, executable plans. Next comes policy, the rulebook of incentives, regulations, and trade frameworks. These need to be grounded in market realities and responsive to firm-level needs. But the real bottleneck is often delivery. Execution requires a system: cross-government coordination, clear KPIs, timelines, and a mechanism to track results and course correct in real time. And finally, technology which is now the most essential and transformative tool in government's hands, whether it's tracking industrial performance, targeting subsidies, or managing regulatory compliance. We need to treat digital tools as part of the core infrastructure of modern industrial policy. The Africa Industrial Development Report is a call to action. We know what's not working. We also know what's possible. Now it's time to deliver. Africa doesn't need more strategies gathering dust. It needs more jobs. And it needs them now.
