Cubs' veteran lefty Matthew Boyd kept the Yankees guessing across eight shutout innings, in a 5-2 victory that ended the Yanks' five-game winning streak.
Aaron Judge doubled twice off Boyd and belted his 35th homer of the year, a two-run shot, off Brad Keller in the eighth. The Yanks had the tying run on deck when Cubs' closer Daniel Palencia got the final out.
Manager Aaron Boone had yet to announce his rotation order coming out of the All-Star break, with the Yankees in Atlanta for three games beginning Friday.
Named last week to the All-Star Game at Atlanta, where he spent the first nine years of his career, Fried's Saturday start took him out of consideration to pitch Tuesday for the AL.

Yankees teammate Carlos Rodon was selected to the AL All-Star squad to replace Fried.
Fried needed 28 pitches to navigate through the first inning, where Cubs leadoff man Nico Hoerner tripled and scored on a Kyle Tucker groundout.
In a scoreless second inning, Fried still walked No. 9 hitter Jon Berti on four pitches before getting Hoerner to line out to end the inning, stranding two runners.
Fried gave up three runs – two earned – in the third inning and did not come out for the fourth.
Chicago collected four hits in the third, including a Seiya Suzuki double, while second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s throwing error preceded an RBI single by Ian Happ.

Fried has experienced blister issues in the past, including during his first spring training with the Yanks.
Signed to a $218 million, eight-year free agent contract this past offseason, Fried took an 11-2 record and 2.27 ERA into Saturday's start.
Now at 122 innings across 20 starts, Fried is on pace to exceed his single season career innings total of 185.1 (including one postseason start) in 2022 with the Braves.
Before the game, Boone said he had 'no plans to skip'' Fried in the rotation, due to his innings totals.
Still, 'you're paying close attention in more ways than one now,'' Boone said of how Fried is 'bouncing back'' and 'recovering'' between starts.

'I hope it's a year where he does go past it,'' Boone said of Fried's innings. 'He's in the prime of his carer and I think he's an athlete that can handle that.
'That being said, you're extremely mindful of it.''

The actual All-Star teams have already been announced and fans have had plenty of time to dissect each selection. For those of us who feel passionately about fantasy baseball, here are the players who would populate the All-Star lineups if first-half fantasy production was the sole criteria. American League Cal Raleigh, C, Mariners: Raleigh's 38 homers are the second highest first-half total in MLB history and more than double the total of any other catcher this season. He is more dominant at his position than anyone else in this article. Advertisement Cody Bellinger, 1B, Yankees: Bellinger's 3-homer, 6-RBI effort on July 11 pushed him to the front of a mediocre group of AL first basemen. The 30-year-old has rebounded from a slow start with a .638 OPS at the end of April and a .910 mark since May 1. Ceddanne Rafaela, 2B, Red Sox: A late-round pick who entered the season with a lifetime .664 OPS, Rafaela has produced the highest OPS (.796) of any qualified Red Sox hitter and could finish the season as a 25-25 player. José Ramírez, 3B, Guardians: Ramírez has thus far been immune to a down year from the Guardians offense. He could reasonably finish with a 30-40-.300 stat line. A second-half power uptick would put him back among the top-5 hitters. Aaron Judge, OF, Yankees: The No. 1 fantasy asset, Judge has an excellent chance to win the AL Triple Crown. Maintaining his 1.194 OPS would give him the best single-season mark since Barry Bonds in 2004. Riley Greene, OF, Tigers: Talk about a breakout season — Greene has exceeded the RBI total and matched the homer mark that he produced in 137 games last year. Byron Buxton, OF, Twins: After years of teasing fantasy managers, Buxton is finally staying healthy and maximizing his incredible skill set. Pete Crow-Armstrong is the only player who is ahead of Buxton in both homers and steals. Advertisement Brent Rooker, DH, Athletics: Rooker is well on his way to a third straight 30-homer season, making him one of baseball's most consistent power hitters. Tarik Skubal, SP, Tigers: Skubal sits no lower than 3rd this season in wins, ERA, WHIP and strikeouts. Since 2023 he has logged a 2.43 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 483-65 K-BB ratio. Garrett Crochet, SP, Red Sox: Crochet has been everything the Red Sox could have expected, leading the Majors in strikeouts while sitting second in ERA and third in wins. Josh Hader, RP, Astros: Hader is tied for the AL lead in saves and is one of five pitchers in baseball to have at least 10 saves and five wins. He also has the most strikeouts (65) of anyone with multiple saves. Advertisement National League Will Smith, C, Dodgers: Smith's OPS dropped in four consecutive seasons before surging up by 206 points this year. Remarkably, he ranks third among the star-studded Dodgers lineup in fantasy production. Pete Alonso, 1B, Mets: Alonso has earned this spot by doing exactly what he was expected to do – lead all first basemen in homers and RBI. His .280 average is a nice bonus. Ketel Marte, 2B, D-backs: Marte narrowly gets this nod over Brice Turang by being a more effective power hitter whose skill set plays better in points leagues. He missed nearly a full month and could still match his career-high 36 homers from 2024. Advertisement Eugenio Suárez, 3B, D-backs: Since the 2024 All-Star break, Suárez trails only Judge in RBI and ranks 4th in home runs. And Suárez is no longer a batting average drain. Elly De La Cruz, SS, Reds: Arguably baseball's most exciting player, De La Cruz is also a balanced fantasy contributor who ranks among the top-10 in steals and runs while also placing 14th in RBI and 26th in homers. Pete Crow-Armstrong, OF, Cubs: PCA is the breakout player of 2025, fully maximizing his exciting skill set to rank 3rd in overall fantasy production while sitting among the top-7 in homers, runs, RBI and steals. Kyle Tucker, OF, Cubs: Tucker has been everything the Cubs and fantasy managers hoped for. Expect more elite production as he speeds towards being the marquee free agent of the upcoming offseason. Advertisement James Wood, OF, Nationals: In an otherwise disappointing season, Wood has been a bright spot for the Nats. His .915 OPS ranks 8th in baseball, and he will be a first-round fantasy pick in 2026. Shohei Ohtani, DH, Dodgers: Ohtani is on pace for fewer than half of his 2024 steals total and still ranks as the No. 2 overall asset. Judge is the only player within 18 of his league-leading runs scored total (91). Zack Wheeler, SP, Phillies: With a 2.86 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over the past five seasons, Wheeler is the most consistent ace in baseball. This season, he is a top-10 player in all four standard pitching categories, which includes ranking second in WHIP and strikeouts. Advertisement Paul Skenes, SP, Pirates: The Major League leader in ERA, Skenes is being held back by a Pirates team that has given him enough support to earn just four wins. Edwin Díaz, RP, Mets: There are three NL relievers who have more saves than Diaz, but none of those men can match his ERA (1.66), WHIP (0.87) and strikeout total (55).

The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, however, put on a passing clinic, dishing out 14 dimes, to go along with three rebounds, five steals, a block and two triples in 25 minutes of play. Bueckers, on the other hand, scored a game-high 21 points on an efficient 9-of-15 from the field. The Wings guard also registered four rebounds, four assists, two steals and two three-pointers in the loss. While both the fans and the media have built up the narrative involving a personal rivalry between these two young stars, the fact of the matter is that there's no animosity between them. Clark herself said that she and Bueckers have 'always been friends.' The Fever star also had nothing but high praise for her opponent. 'I mean, I feel like she's played in the same manner that she has since she was, you know, whether we were on the U16 team together, U19 team together, whether it's me watching her in AAU,' Clark said of Bueckers before Sunday's game. Advertisement 'She's always just been smooth. She takes what the game gives her. Her [mid-range shot] has always been as nice as it's been this year. She just plays way older than she is. She's confident. She's smooth. She just does everything at a high level and can score from all three levels.' Clark went on to say that she had known all along that Bueckers would excel at the pro level. 'That's how she's always played,' Clark continued. 'And that's obviously translated really well — and everybody knew that it would. But yeah, I think it's just that her ability to just be smooth and go with what the game's going to give her. She's never going to force anything. I think it's always been that, and she's just continued to stay true to that.' These two get the chance to go at it again on August 1 when the Fever and the Wings face off in a rematch. Coming off the heels of a season-high 27 assists in their 99-82 win over the Atlanta Dream on Friday night, the Indiana Fever continued to share the ball in textbook fashion in Sunday's 102-83 romp over the visiting Dallas Wings. An offense predicated on ball movement is something that head coach Stephanie White has been trying to implement for most of the season, and it's been clicking during the past two games. 'Thirty assists on 40 made shots is about as good as it's gonna get,' Fever superstar Caitlin Clark told reporters after the game. 'That's really impressive, and I just think it shows the selflessness of this group. That's something that Steph always preaches and something that she's always talking about … how many of our field goals are assisted.' Indiana improved to 11-10 with the win, tied for sixth in the league. But the Fever are just 1.5 games behind fourth-place Seattle in the top-heavy WNBA standings. Here are several observations from Indiana's win. She tallied a game-high 21 points, and you might even say she's the only Wing who showed up in Indy. Clark, however had a better overall game — scoring 14 points and dealing 13 assists. In addition to her double-double, Clark was active on the defensive end with five steals and a huge block in the second quarter which led to a bucket in transition. The matchup didn't disappoint. Bueckers gave buckets, but the Fever defense contained everyone else. 0.5 seconds or less … WNBA style In the NBA, the Golden State Warriors' read-and react motion offense has a principle of making the decision to pass, drive or shoot within a half second. Indiana appears to be adopting that same principle. White wants to have her players to make a decision within half a second to prevent stalling, and it's been a point of emphasis. By making quick, efficient decisions with the ball, the Fever scored 36 points in the second quarter — tying the mark for the most points by any WNBA team in a quarter this season. White credits her squad's efficiency in moving the ball. Advertisement 'I like the fact that we had a 75% assist rate — 30 assists on 40 made field goals is really good,' White said after the game. 'We got it moving. We were playing close to point-five basketball in the second quarter.' Dallas, at 6-16 is just one spot removed from the WNBA cellar. Despite having a seemingly competent and solid roster on paper, the Wings don't appear to be improving. Although Bueckers has hit her stride, she isn't getting the help she needs on both ends of the court. That said, there is still plenty of ball left to play. With a talent such as Bueckers and the desire to get the right players around her, look for Dallas to be active at the trade deadline. The Wings would be wise to acquire players that mesh with their superstar rookie. Even if they don't make a playoff push this season, they could build strong chemistry and be ready to compete next season.
