Hakimi Wins Ligue 1 African Player of Year Award
Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a defender for Paris Saint-Germain, was named Ligue 1 African Player of the Year after contributing to his club's record-extending 13th title.
Hakimi, 26, won the Marc-Vivien Foé Award, beating out Ivorian Yvan Guisand, a Nice striker, and Senegalese Habib Diarra, a Strasbourg midfielder.
This award is named after the late Cameroonian player, Vivien Foe, a two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, who died on the pitch in France during a match for his country in 2003.
The Moroccan international is the second defender to win the award after Congo's Chancel Mbemba in 2023, and the fourth Moroccan to win it after Marouane Chamakh in 2009, Younes Belhanda in 2012, and Sofiane Boufal in 2016. Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang won the award last year.
Paris Saint-Germain is seeking its first treble this season, playing in the Coupe de France final against Reims on May 24 and the Champions League final against Inter Milan on May 31. The Parisian team had already secured the Ligue 1 title this season a few rounds earlier.

Porto Appoints Farioli as New Football Team Manager
Lisbon – Saba: Portuguese club Porto announced on Sunday the appointment of Italian Francesco Farioli as the new manager of the first football team on a two-year contract. Farioli replaces Martin Anselmi, who left Porto earlier in July following the team's elimination from the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup. The Italian coach, formerly in charge of Ajax Amsterdam and Nice, departed the Dutch club last May after missing the chance to secure a 37th league title due to the team's late-season collapse, allowing PSV Eindhoven to clinch the championship in the final round. Farioli led Nice to a fifth-place finish in the 2023-2024 French league and previously managed Turkish clubs Fatih Karagümrük and Alanyaspor. Porto finished third in the Portuguese league last season, nine points behind champions Sporting Lisbon. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print
