FDCA busts anxiety drug production racket

Time of India01-05-2025

Ahmedabad: The state Food and Drugs Control Administration (
FDCA
) on Thursday busted a racket involved in the illegal production and sale of bulk drug
pregabalin
across Ahmedabad and Ankleshwar. Pregabalin is a key active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used in medications to treat neuropathic pain, epilepsy and generalised anxiety disorder.
The crackdown revealed that Estime Enterprise in Ahmedabad was trading the API without a valid licence. Evidence found at their premises indicated the sales of approximately 4,300kg of pregabalin worth around Rs 85 lakh. The investigation led authorities to
Axis Pharmachem
in Ankleshwar and Iconic Pharmachem in Panoli.
"Iconic Pharmachem was reportedly caught producing pregabalin in their chemical factory despite lacking the necessary drug manufacturing licence, while Axis Pharmachem was sealed for allegedly using its licence to facilitate sales from Iconic Pharmachem for a commission, without generating proper documents," said FDCA commissioner H G Koshia.
"Nearly 1,000kg worth Rs 21.50 lakh was seized from Iconic Pharmachem in Panoli. A branch of Estime Enterprise in Bharuch was found to be selling pregabalin and other API chemicals without licences and generating their own test reports. From here, 35kg of pregabalin was seized," Koshia said.

Dragged To Taluka Office On Stretcher Over Land Dispute, 90-year-old Woman Dies In Tamil Nadu

Last Updated: The woman's son alleged the deputy taluka officer rejected her patta application five times and demanded Rs 5 lakh per acre as bribe, despite all documents being in order A 90-year-old woman from Naranapuram, near Palladam in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur district, died after being taken on a stretcher to the taluka office for a land transfer — a tragic end to her battle against alleged land grabbing and official apathy. The elderly woman, who was in frail health and undergoing treatment, had recently discovered that her 27-acre property in Madappur village had been usurped by others when she attempted to transfer the patta to her heirs. She had submitted an application to the taluk office seeking to reclaim the land. Despite her condition, on June 10, authorities insisted that the elderly woman, who was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues, appear in person. Her family was forced to bring her in an ambulance, lying on a stretcher. Her son, Shanmugasundaram, alleged that the deputy taluka officer had rejected her application five times and demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh per acre to transfer the patta, even though all the documents were in order. He also accused the official of colluding with those who had encroached on their land. The woman died without receiving timely medical care. Her family has blamed the revenue department for her death, citing negligence and harassment by officials.

Man held with Rs 3.9 lakh hydroponic ganja in Thane

During checking, the police recovered 130 gm of hydroponic ganja from the accused, identified as Dhiren Wadhwa, resident of Ulhasnagar, senior police inspector Sachin Gaikwad said. A police team noticed the man loitering suspiciously near a hotel on Shil-Kalyan Road on Tuesday evening and apprehended him. Thane, Jun 12 (PTI) Police have seized hydroponic ganja valued at Rs 3.9 lakh and arrested a man in this connection from Maharashtra's Thane city, an official said on Thursday. The police also seized a scooter, a weighing scale, a mobile phone and some cash, all collectively valued at Rs 1.24 lakh, he said. 'The evidence clearly indicates he was in possession of the drugs for the purpose of sale,' Gaikwad said. An FIR has been registered against the accused at Shil-Daighar police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said. 'We are probing further into his network to identify the source of the contraband and determine whom he was planning to sell it,' the official added. Mathura: Objectionable photos found in phone of youth arrested over ‘provocative' online post

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar on Wednesday said he has formed a special team to investigate the matter, which has now taken a serious turn following the recovery of digital evidence. They said the youth allegedly lured the women into relationships by pretending to be a Hindu, filmed them in compromising situations and circulated the content online. Mathura (UP), Jun 12 (PTI) Objectionable photos and videos allegedly involving Hindu women have been found in the mobile phone of a Muslim youth arrested for sharing a 'provocative' message on social media on Eid, police said. According to police, Imran, a resident of Machhi Mandi in the Kotwali area here and an autorickshaw driver, was taken into custody on Sunday after local Hindu leaders complained about a communal and inflammatory social media post made by him on Eid. Following his arrest, Hindu groups alleged that Imran was involved in 'love jihad' — a coinage used by right-wing activists to refer to the alleged campaign of Muslims forcing Hindu girls to convert in the guise of love. Based on these allegations, Imran's mobile phone was sent to the cyber headquarters for forensic analysis, police said. 'Initial investigation revealed that he had written on one of his social media display pictures, 'I have more girlfriends than most people's age'. We have also found photos and videos of Hindu women in compromising situations on his mobile phone,' SSP Kumar said. He said Imran used fake online identities to trap the women and later shared the obscene material on various platforms. Emails have been sent to social media companies requesting dossiers of all of Imran's accounts along with associated URLs, he said. 'Based on phone records, we are trying to identify the victims and encourage them to come forward. Their identities will be kept strictly confidential and if required, counselling will be offered,' the SSP said. Imran was allegedly active on multiple platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Police have sought detailed activity logs of the past three years from these companies as part of their investigation. PTI COR KIS DIV DIV This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
