"Not going to happen at all" Congress's Venugopal slams RSS over call to drop 'socialism', 'secularism'
'Let them say whatever they want to say. But we would like to make it crystal clear that any attempt at change in the Constitution, and any tampering with the words 'Secular and Socialist', will not be tolerated by this nation. They can wish anything, but this is not going to happen at all...' Venugopal said on Tuesday while speaking with reporters here.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's had recently demanded reconsideration of the terms 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
Earlier, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge alleged that the RSS wants to 'alter' the Indian Constitution. Kharge said that these are the same people who 'staged a protest when the constituent assembly debates were going on and had burned the Constitution.'
Responding to Hosabale's recent remarks, the Karnataka Minister said, 'Very clearly, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar in his last speech has defined anti-nationals as those who create animosity by bringing in caste, and those people who are going to impede the social, political and economic progress of the country are the real anti-national. Those people who sow the seeds of communal hatred in society are anti-national. So who's doing that right now?...'
'They want to change the words of the Constitution. They want to change the Constitution. This is the narrative they want to bring in... RSS has never been for the Constitution. These are the same bunch of people who staged a protest when the constituent assembly debates were going on. They burned the constitution and said that we want the Manusmriti as our constitution. Didn't they say that? Please ask them to read their magazine, the Organiser's archives, what they have written on the 26th of January 1950... The answer lies there itself...' he said.
On being asked if Congress is thinking of banning the RSS, Kharge said, 'We will see. It's not the first time they have been banned, right? Didn't Sardar Patel ban them? Then they went and fell at his feet. They pleaded no, no, we will follow the law of the land. After that, Indira Gandhiji banned it again. They went and said No, we will cooperate. We will abide by the laws of the land. There cannot be one law of the land for the rest of the country and for one organisation like this...'
On June 26, addressing a program on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, RSS General Secretary Hosabale said that during the Emergency, terms like 'Socialism' and 'Secularism' were forcibly inserted into the Constitution, a move that needs to be reconsidered today.
He emphasised that the Emergency wasn't just a misuse of power, but an attempt to crush civil liberties. Millions were imprisoned, and freedom of the press was suppressed. He said that those who imposed the Emergency and trampled the Constitution and democracy have never apologised. If they cannot apologise personally, they should do so on behalf of their ancestors.
Hosabale was speaking at an event held at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, jointly organised by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (under the Ministry of Culture) and Ambedkar International Centre. (ANI)

Dhule saw devpt under BJP: Kunal Patil after joining party
Nashik: Former state working president of Congress and ex-MLA of Dhule Rural Kunal Patil on Tuesday joined BJP in Mumbai and said the need for development in the Dhule-Nandurbar region was the primary reason for the switch. Patil, whose family has been associated with Congress for over 75 years, was inducted into BJP in the presence of party executive president Ravindra Chavan, party's state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, WRD minister Girish Mahajan and Dhule district guardian minister Jaykumar Rawal. Patil said he joined BJP to drive development in the Dhule-Nandurbar region, a constituency his family represented so far. Bawankule and Chavan assured him of full support for the region's development. But it was BJP that understood the gravity and funded the project, which will be a reality soon," Patil said, adding that the people of Dhule had been dreaming of the Manmad-Dhule-Indore railway track since childhood. "I was drawn to BJP because, after they took office at the Centre and in the state, the long-pending Manmad-Dhule-Indore railway project finally got a push. Despite my family's three-generation association with Congress, I've decided to start a new chapter," Patil said. Patil's joining BJP is a significant blow to Congress in the Dhule-Nandurbar area, given the family's long-standing ties with the party and the Gandhi family. Notably, Rahul Gandhi had visited Patil's home during the Bharat Jodo Yatra when Patil's father, Rohidas Patil, was unwell. The Patil family's legacy in Congress is substantial, with Rohidas Patil serving as an eight-time MLA and minister, and his father, Chudaman Patil, being a two-time MP from Dhule. "With Patil joining BJP, the party has only further consolidated its position in the Dhule and Nandurbar region. This will definitely have a very strong effect on the results of the forthcoming local body self-governing bodies in the region," a senior BJP politician from Dhule said. ‘Get them the hell out': Donald Trump renews call to deport US-born offenders
US President Donald Trump has yet suggested deporting individuals born in the United States who commit crimes, describing it as 'the next job' for his administration. Speaking at a migrant detention facility in the Florida Everglades on Tuesday (July 1), Trump said, 'Many of them were born in our country.' 'I think we ought to get them the hell out of here too, you want to know the truth, so maybe that'll be the next job that we'll work on together.' Trump has repeatedly raised the idea of revoking birthright citizenship, a principle enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, which grants citizenship to anyone born on American soil. His comments are likely to inflame legal debates over constitutional protections and due process, as well as intensify scrutiny of the administration's hardline immigration policies. Separately, the Justice Department issued a sweeping directive to US attorneys to prioritise denaturalisation proceedings against naturalised citizens accused of crimes or national security threats. 'The Department of Justice may institute civil proceedings to revoke a person's United States citizenship if an individual either 'illegally procured' naturalization or procured naturalization by 'concealment of a material fact or by willful misrepresentation,'' wrote Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate in a June 11 memo. Shumate instructed prosecutors to focus on individuals linked to terrorism, espionage, and serious human rights abuses: 'The benefits of civil denaturalization include the government's ability to revoke the citizenship of individuals who engaged in the commission of war crimes, extrajudicial killings, or other serious human rights abuses,' he stated. He added that such cases would also 'prevent convicted terrorists from returning to U.S. soil or traveling internationally on a U.S. passport.' The memo detailed several priority categories for civil denaturalization, including: Individuals convicted of human trafficking, sex offenses, or violent crimes. Those who committed financial fraud against the government, such as PPP loan fraud and Medicare scams. Members or associates of gangs, drug cartels, or transnational criminal organizations. Individuals engaged in fraud against private individuals or corporations. Shumate emphasised that attorneys should take an aggressive approach: 'The Civil Division should prioritise and maximally pursue denaturalisation proceedings in all cases permitted by law and supported by the evidence,' he wrote.
