7 Must-Watch Netflix Movies of 2025 So Far, Ranked: ‘Havoc,' ‘Back in Action' and More
That may be because the Oscar-bait films are being held back until the latter part of the year. If that's the case, the list of Netflix's best original movies will look very different at the end of 2025.
In the meantime, Watch With Us has selected the seven best Netflix movies of 2025 so far.
Admittedly, this list is action-heavy, but it's the genre that Netflix does best. There are also some comedy and romance options, as well as two standout animated selections.
25 Must-Watch Movies on Netflix (July 2025): 'Happy Gilmore 2,' 'Brick' and More
7. 'Back in Action' (2025)
After extended absences for different reasons, and Cameron Diaz got their respective comebacks in Back in Action. The duo play Matt and Emily, a pair of CIA agents who faked their own deaths after someone tipped off their enemies during their final mission.
In the present, Emily and Matt are married and the parents of Alice (McKenna Roberts) and Leo (Rylan Jackson). The kids don't know anything about who their parents used to be, but they get a crash course when Emily and Matt's cover identities are blown and the entire family is targeted by an old adversary.

6. 'La Dolce Villa' (2025)
Scott Foley fully embraces his rom-com phase in La Dolce Villa, but the only reason Eric (Foley) has come to Italy is because his daughter, Olivia (Maia Reficco), is seriously considering a permanent move there after investing her inheritance in an abandoned property.
10 Must-Watch Rom-Com Movies on Netflix Right Now (June 2025)
Eric is so concerned with keeping Olivia from making a mistake that he almost doesn't realize that Italy has a great deal of appeal for him as well. And once Eric meets the town's mayor, Francesca (Violante Placido), the romantic sparks inevitably fly between them. It's a charming love story, even though it's pretty predictable.
La Dolce Villa is streaming on Netflix.
5. 'KPop Demon Hunters' (2025)
KPop Demon Hunters is perhaps Netflix's most surprising smash hit of the year. Despite the title, this isn't a production from South Korea, although it does lampoon the way that KPop groups and Korean television shows have become a global phenomenon. The story revolves around a popular KPop act, Huntr/x, whose members double as demon hunters when they aren't on stage.
However, the lead singer, Rumi (Arden Cho), is secretly part demon herself, and she's scared to reveal the truth to her bandmates. Meanwhile, the demons figure out that they can front their own KPop group, The Saja Boys, and steal the devotion of Huntr/x's fans as well as their souls. This is one of the most visually imaginative animated movies in recent memory, and it probably could have played very well in theaters.

9 Must-Watch Action Movies on Netflix Right Now (July 2025)
4. 'Exterritorial' (2025)
Keep an eye out for Jeanne Goursaud after her performance in the German action thriller Extraterritorial. Goursaud showed off some real action chops while playing former soldier Sara Wulf, the widowed mother of a young boy named Josh (Rickson Guy da Silva). During a routine visit to the American Consulate in Germany, Josh goes missing. More alarmingly, the security footage has been altered to make it appear that Josh never accompanied Sara to the consulate.
Since the German police are helpless to find her son, Sara takes matters into her own hands and goes deeper into the consulate to look for Josh. Dougray Scott has a dark turn as Erik Kynch, one of the consulate's primary security officials. It's his job to make sure that Sara's search comes to a permanent end.

3. 'Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl' (2025)
In the age of CGI animation, it's refreshing that a very old-school title like Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl still stands out as one of the best of the year. This full-length animated film revisits the eccentric inventor named Wallace (Ben Whitehead) and his loyal dog, Gromit.
5 Great Netflix Animated Movies to Watch Right Now (May 2025)
For their latest misadventure, Wallace has invented a robotic gnome, Norbot (Reece Shearsmith), to take over the household chores. Gromit's fears about Norbit are proven to be correct when their old adversary, Feathers McGraw, reprograms Norbot and the other gnomes in a scheme for revenge and world domination. It's as silly as it sounds, and we love it.
Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is streaming on Netflix.
2. 'Bullet Train Explosion' (2025)
If you've never seen the 1975 Japanese action thriller The Bullet Train, don't worry. Bullet Train Explosion is more of a thematic sequel, although it does reference its now 50-year-old predecessor. Think of it as Speed on a train, as a mad bomber forces the Hayabusa 60 to maintain an unsafe speed or else everyone on board will be killed. The bomber also demands a large ransom for their lives from everyone in Japan.
While Detective Yoshiharu Kawagoe (Kenji Iwaya) attempts to find the bomber outside of the train, head manager Kazuya Takaichi (Kazuya Takaichi) tries to save everyone on Hayabusa 60 after the passengers discover what's happening. This is an unusually smart thriller that lets its heroic characters make good choices instead of leading them down the wrong path for the sake of contrivance.
Bullet Train Explosion is streaming on Netflix.
13 Must-Watch Thrillers on Netflix Right Now (July 2025)
1. 'Havoc' (2025)
The Raid director Gareth Evans delivered another great action thriller in Havoc. Tom Hardy stars as Patrick Walker, a homicide detective who is estranged from his fellow cops and on the payroll for a local businessman, Lawrence Beaumont (Forest Whitaker). There's a gang war brewing among the Chinese Triad, and Beaumont's son, Charlie (Justin Cornwell), is unintentionally at the center of it.
Charlie and his girlfriend, Mia (Quelin Sepulveda), were framed for murdering a Triad leader, and now there's a price on their heads. Beaumont wants Walker to find and protect Charlie at all costs, but he doesn't realize that he's become a target as well.

Gal Gadot Says She Left ‘Entourage' Set Because Someone Behaved Inappropriately, ‘Hated' the Experience
The actress appeared in one episode of the HBO series in 2009 Gal Gadot appeared on one episode of 'Entourage' during the show's first season — and she doesn't look back on the experience fondly. While speaking to a group of amateur reporters this week, Gadot said she 'hated' being on the show. 'What I hated and didn't enjoy at all was being on 'Entourage,' an American series,' she explained. 'Someone there behaved inappropriately, it got to the point where I left the set and stopped working with them.' More from TheWrap Gal Gadot Says She Left 'Entourage' Set Because Someone Behaved Inappropriately, 'Hated' the Experience Catherine Zeta-Jones Says Husband Michael Douglas' So-Called Retirement Is 'Flexible': 'Never Say Never' 7 Creepy, Kooky Shows Like 'Wednesday' to Watch While You Wait for Part 2 Wendell Pierce Shuts Down Idea of Remaking 'The Wire' She did not elaborate on the experience, or about whom she was talking specifically. Gadot was later asked about her own acting skills, which she described as 'OK.' As she put it, 'If you cast me, you cast me well. My greatest strength is that I'm not afraid to work and I don't let things stop me.' Though her role in the series was short-lived, director Doug Ellin told Entertainment Weekly in 2018 that it was apparent Gadot would have a successful career. 'I remember when Gal came in, it was a small little role but everyone said, 'This girl is gonna be something big,' so it is cool to see,' he said. Elsewhere in the conversation, Gadot admitted navigating the controversies that surrounded the release of 'Snow White' this year was challenging. Her costar Rachel Zegler came under fire in 2024 after posting the words 'and always remember, free palestine' on X after thanking her fans for their support for the 'Snow White' trailer. Gadot served in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from 2004-2009. Though both Gadot and Zegler put their best foot forward ahead of the film's release, the movie's box office performance was impacted. 'You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening [in Israel] and what the reality is here, but in the end people decide for themselves,' Gadot said. 'I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.' Dan Tana Dies: Former Owner Of Celebrity-Frequented West Hollywood Eatery Was 90
Dan Tana, the erstwhile actor-turned-restaurateur whose eponymous West Hollywood eatery was a hotspot for celebrities for the past half century, has died at the age of 90, the restaurant's staff announced on Facebook. 'The great Dan Tana has passed on,' the post read. 'We all know that he created a very magical place. Our beloved little yellow house will forever feel his presence.' More from Deadline Pete Davidson Reflects On Canceling 'Bupkis' & Being In "Purgatory" With NBCUniversal Over The Decision: "They Were Not Pleased" Charisma Carpenter Addresses Whether She Will Be In 'Buffy' Reboot Gal Gadot Says "Pressure" To "Speak Out Against Israel" Led To 'Snow White' Flopping: "I Was Disappointed" 'Dan started out working for La Scala and The Villa Capri in the 1950s. It was working for those classic eateries that encouraged him to open his own! And he did just that. He was always proud of where he came from and what he accomplished, a former soccer star from Yugoslavia,' the statement continued. 'Dan had wonderful stories about Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, James Dean, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis. In fact Robert Urich's character was named after Dan Tana on the classic TV show, Vega$. Today Dan Tana's is owned by his dear friend Sonja Perencevic who's kept it exactly the same since 1964. This man is a legend, and as you know a legend never dies,' the obit concluded. Born Dobrivoje Tanasijević in former Yugoslavia's Belgrade, Tana's background was in professional soccer, for which he moved to Canada to pursue. Deciding to forgo his sports career, Tana relocated to Hollywood, where he started out as a dishwasher, before moving up to be maître d'hôtel. At the time, Tana also began undertaking drama lessons with Jeff Corey, whose pupils included Natalie Wood, Angie Dickinson and Kim Novak. After Americanizing his name, he had his feature film debut in 1957's The Enemy Below, later appearing in series like Peter Gunn. He opened Dan Tana's Restaurant in 1964, taking over Dominick's hamburger stand on Santa Monica Boulevard. Featuring typical New York Italian fare and making the decision to keep the place open later than usual, the establishment was propelled to success after a glowing Los Angeles Times review in 1966 significantly bolstered its customer base. Due to its location being a stone's throw from famed music venue and nightclub Troubadour, Dan Tana's was frequented by the likes of Elton John, Bette Midler, Axl Rose and Springsteen. Since the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences was previously housed around the corner, the establishment also drew other notable attendees like Kirk Douglas, John Wayne, Jack Nicholson, Cameron Diaz and Johnny Carson, who proclaimed it as his favorite L.A. restaurant during an episode of The Tonight Show after guest Richard Burton complained about being turned away from one of its coveted 17 tables. Since accumulating a star-studded clientele, the restaurant has named a number of its signature dishes after A-listers, including veal cutlets named after Jerry Weintraub and George Clooney, shrimp scampi Jerry Buss and New York steak Dabney Coleman. Prior to his death, Tana sold the restaurant to current owner Perencevic in 2009 and retired to Belgrade, Serbia. 7 best animated movies on Netflix you can stream right now
As the "KPop Demon Hunters craze continues, I've been thinking a lot about Netflix's animated output. Over the years, the streaming service has put out some seriously strong animated movies from some truly talented filmmakers. Like countless other movie lovers, I grew up in front of Disney classics and have since grown into a lifelong fan of the medium. Following the revelation that "KPDH" had become the second-most-watched Netflix movie of all time, I figured now was as good a time as any to take stock of some of the most entertaining animated work that you can find on the platform. To be frank, it was nigh on impossible to whittle down this list to just a handful of picks; the range is just that good, and I've no doubt had to skip at some favorites. However, I've tried to highlight a range of genres and animation styles that show the moviemaking medium has plenty to offer to movie lovers of all ages. Oh, and seeing as Tom's Guide already has a separate round-up of some of the best anime movies and shows on Netflix, I've kept them off my list for now. So, without further ado, here's a list of seven of the very best animated movies you can stream on Netflix right now. Netflix dropped Sergio Pablos' Oscar-nominated animated Christmas movie "Klaus" back in November 2019, and this festive treat has been part of my Christmas rotation every single year since — it's just that good. Functioning as an origin story for Jolly Saint Nick, "Klaus" introduces us to self-centered postal worker, Jesper (Jason Schwartzman), who is carted off to a tiny, feuding community in 19th-century Norway. There, he forges an unlikely friendship with reclusive toymaker, Klaus (J.K. Simmons), and the duo begin delivering toys and bringing cheer to the locals. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Watch "Klaus" on Netflix now I mentioned it in my intro already, but I couldn't put this list together and not include "KPop Demon Hunters," it's a bona fide Netflix phenomenon. Despite only hitting the streamer in June 2025, Maggie Kang and Chris Applehans' musical action flick has taken the world by storm, and I doubt the hype will die down anytime soon. It's easy to see why it's taken off so much, too: "KPop Demon Hunters" is a blast. Throwing us in with superstar KPop trio Huntrix as they sell out stadiums (and secretly defend us from demonic threats), this Sony Pictures Animation project is a gem. It's packed with action, great characters, vibrant visuals, laughs, and soundtracked with infectiously catchy tunes: what's not to like? Watch "KPop Demon Hunters" on Netflix now Sony Pictures Animation really does keep producing hits. Before "KPDH", the "Spider-Verse" studio also brought Netflix another accomplished feature in "The Mitchells vs. The Machines," a zany, creative family sci-fi comedy caper with bags of personality. Before Katie (Abbi Jacobson) leaves home and heads off to film school, family patriarch Rick (Danny McBride) insists on driving her and the whole dysfunctional family all the way there on one last big road trip. And while Rick's forced fun spells trouble, the family finds themselves as humanity's last hope when a robot uprising springs up around them. Watch "The Mitchells vs. The Machines" on Netflix now We almost didn't get to watch "Nimona", until Annapurna and Netflix swept in and saved it, and I'm glad they did: this punky, LGBTQ+ sci-fi fantasy movie was worth saving This dazzling 2023 film whisks us away to a futuristic medieval world where Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed) is framed for murder and forced to go on the run. As a fugitive, he crosses paths with Nimona (Chloë Grace Moretz), the titular shapeshifter (and fellow outcast) who insists on becoming his new sidekick. Together, they set out to find the truth and learn a lot about one another in the process.. Watch "Nimona" on Netflix now In the same year that Disney brought us its drab live-action "Pinocchio" remake, Guillermo del Toro and stop-motion artist Mark Gustafson teamed up to bring us this imaginative take on Carlo Collodi's classic tale of a puppet come to life. It may not be suitable for the youngest of viewers, but it's a real triumph of a film (and rightly bagged Best Animated Feature at the 2023 Oscars). Beautifully made, charming and yet still tinged with darkness, "Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio" is a fantastic dark fantasy, and a movie well worth streaming if you haven't already. Watch "Pinocchio" on Netflix now DreamWorks' 1998 Biblical epic is an adaptation of the Book of Exodus, and lives up to that "epic" label by being an utterly captivating musical retelling of the Moses. You get an A-list voice cast, including the likes of Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes and Sandra Bullock, stunning visuals, and Broadway-worthy musical numbers, combined into a truly thrilling watch. Along with the studio's 2000 follow-up, "The Road to El Dorado" (not currently on Netflix), "The Prince of Egypt" is one of my all-time favorite animated movies. It's not a Netflix project, but that's where the movie's currently streaming, and I can't recommend it enough. Watch "The Prince of Egypt" on Netflix now As a Brit, it'd be impossible for me to overlook "Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl" — I'm basically hard-wired to have a soft spot for Aardman's dynamic duo. To longtime fans of the wacky inventor and his trusty canine companion, it came as no surprise that this cracking claymation caper was just as fun as any of their previous outings. This latest misadventure sees Wallace and Gromit face off against their legendary foe, Feathers McGraw (a nefarious penguin), who repurposes Wallace's smart gnome devices to help him seek his revenge on the pair that helped put him behind bars at the local zoo. "Vengeance Most Fowl" is impeccably, incredibly put together and brilliantly entertaining: get it watched.
