"I am confident that the potential for mutually beneficial Ukraine-India cooperation lies ahead - in science, technology, trade, and culture. Wishing peace and prosperity!" he further said. Trump last week announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on US imports from India -- raising the overall duty to 50 per cent -- as a penalty for the country's continued imports of Russian oil. The tariffs will come into effect from August 27. India on Thursday said it has not halted oil purchases from Russia in response to the US president's tariff threat and continues to buy based solely on economic considerations. Responding to the US tariffs, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. "Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security," it said. Trump has said that India's purchasing of Russian oil is "fuelling" the war machine.

PM Modi warns Pakistan on terror, flags infiltration
A stern warning to Pakistan of massive retaliation if it sponsors terrorism against India, strong steps against naxalism and those conspiring to change the demography of the country by allowing infiltrators to cross the border, an appeal to all parties to join the efforts at building a developed India and a reach out to Sangh fountainhead RSS for its contribution to the nation marked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech on Friday. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency While lauding the role of indigenous weapons and defence systems for the success of Operation Sindoor , the prime minister minced no words in sending across the message to Pakistan that not just terrorists but those sponsoring, abetting and training them will be meted out treatment far worse than they can imagine. "On 22nd April, terrorists crossed the border and committed a massacre in Pahalgam, killing people after asking their religion, shooting husbands in front of their wives, and executing fathers in front of their children. The entire nation was filled with outrage, and the whole world was shocked by such a massacre... Operation Sindoor was the expression of that outrage," Modi said. He praised the Indian defence forces for their action and insisted that the military had been given a free hand in formulating its strategy, choosing targets and the time of action. "Penetrating hundreds of kilometres into enemy territory, they reduced terrorist headquarters to rubble and turned terrorist headquarters into ruins. Pakistan is still not able to sleep. The devastation in Pakistan has been so huge that every day brings new revelations and fresh information," he said. Live Events "Those who nurture and harbour terrorism, and those who empower terrorists, will no longer be seen as separate. They are all equal enemies of humanity, with no distinction between them. Bharat has now decided that we will no longer tolerate these nuclear threats. The nuclear blackmail that has gone on for so long will no longer be endured. If our enemies continue this attempt in the future, our defence forces will decide on its own terms, at the time of its choosing, in the manner it deems fit, and target the objectives it selects, and we will act accordingly. We will give a fitting and crushing response," Modi said. He reiterated the stand on the Indus Waters Treaty , saying blood and water cannot flow together. India's waters were irrigating parts of Pakistan till this treaty was put in abeyance, he added. The Prime Minister spoke about internal security as well, saying that 125 districts were in the grip of naxalism 11 years ago but today the number has been reduced to 20 districts. Expressing his concern over a "deliberate conspiracy" to change the demography of the country through infiltration, Modi said, "Seeds of a new crisis are being sown." He announced the launch of a High-Power Demography Mission through which this crisis will be addressed.

Flick keeps faith in Barcelona to register new recruits ahead of LaLiga opener
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick remains confident his club will register key players including new signings Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford in time for Saturday's LaLiga opener at Mallorca, despite ongoing financial fair play complications. Independence Day 2025 Modi signals new push for tech independence with local chips Before Trump, British used tariffs to kill Indian textile Bank of Azad Hind: When Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose gave India its own currency The Spanish champions are still scrambling to register players due to LaLiga's strict financial rules, having spent more on signings and wages than they have generated in revenue for multiple seasons. "For me, the situation, you can imagine I'm not happy about that. But I know the situation and I believe in the club," Flick told reporters on Friday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Crossout 2.0: Supercharged Crossout Play Now Undo "We have to wait till tomorrow. It was the same situation last season. "We will focus on what we can change and what is in our hands. The other things, I believe in the club." Live Events Barcelona signed goalkeeper Garcia from local rivals Espanyol in June while Wojciech Szczesny has signed an extension, but neither player has been registered yet. The club's registration headache has been partly resolved through some dramatic internal manoeuvring involving captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German keeper initially refused to sign a long-term medical leave agreement that would clear 80% of his wages and help the club comply with financial rules. Sidelined for at least three months due to surgery, he was stripped of his captaincy before it was reinstated when he eventually agreed to the deal. "I think the most important thing is that everyone speaks together. Marc and the club, they spoke," Flick said. "The most important thing for me, for Marc and the club is that he comes back. "He's shown for many years here that he's a fantastic goalkeeper and the important thing is that he comes back and is ready to play. We'll all help him, we're all on his side." The departure of 34-year-old defender Inigo Martinez to Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr has also freed up crucial salary space, although Flick admitted mixed feelings about losing the veteran who was a mainstay in central defence. "I was a little bit surprised but I could totally understand him. I'm not happy that he left, he's a fantastic player and has a great personality," Flick said. "He was one of our leaders, he was outstanding not only as a player but also a personality in the dressing room. He deserves this and I wish him all the best." Despite the defensive reshuffle, Flick indicated he will not rush into the transfer market, backing the versatile 23-year-old Gerard Martin to step up. "Gerard can also play in this position. From what I've seen, I really appreciate that. Last season, as a left back, he was fantastic and improved a lot," he added. "When he played as centre back, he was doing well. He's a good option. I like players who can play in different positions."
