Cloudbass chooses Grass Valley for next-gen IP production trucks
The UK-based outside broadcast provider is investing in state-of-the-art camera and switcher solutions from Grass Valley for its new fleet of IP remote production vehicles.
Cloudbass has selected Grass Valley's LDX 150 series cameras and K-Frame VXP production switchers to equip two new IP remote production vehicles, set for completion later this year. This strategic move marks a major advancement for Cloudbass, enhancing its IP production capabilities with scalable and high-performance workflows.
As one of the UK's premier providers of outside broadcast services, Cloudbass operates a vast fleet of UHD, 1080p/1080i, HDR/SDR OB trucks and SMPTE 2110 and 2022-6 IP units. The new vehicles, currently under construction by integration partner dB Broadcast, will be outfitted with 32 LDX 150 cameras, three LDX C150 compact models and a K-Frame VXP production switcher.
Mike Beaumont, Technical Director at Cloudbass, said: 'Designed specifically for remote production, Cloudbass' new trucks leverage Grass Valley's technology for its seamless integration into IP-driven workflows, flexible format support, and superior image quality. Grass Valley's solutions are the perfect fit for our operational needs. Deploying an all-IP workflow, reducing weight and energy consumption, and delivering outstanding image quality will enhance our efficiency and production capabilities.'
Developed in partnership with dB Broadcast, these cutting-edge trucks are built to support both on-site and remote production, optimising space, weight and power usage. Cloudbass has prioritised sustainability, reducing energy costs and minimising environmental impact. Lighter builds will lead to lower fuel consumption and emissions, while faster deployment times will cut down on power usage and on-site crew requirements. The scalable, software-driven workflows allow for energy-efficient operation based on specific production needs, and remote-ready technology reduces travel demands for production crews.
Beaumont added: 'It's our mission to lower energy consumption and operational costs in live broadcasting even as we increase our operational capability. Grass Valley's NativeIP camera transmission removes the need for traditional base stations, helping us to streamline systems and improve efficiency, which is very important to us.'
The trucks' compact design maximises limited rack space while supporting HD, UHD and super slow-motion cameras. They offer flexible camera output configurations, enabling the simultaneous production of SDR and HDR versions directly from the camera head.
Daragh Bass, Grass Valley's Director of Business Development, EMEA, added: 'We ticked all the boxes for remote production with NativeIP, while delivering the high-quality results their clients require, such as flexible output configuration, no UHD compromise, colour space and HDR support to successfully bring the project together. The collaboration with Cloudbass reflects the growing adoption of Grass Valley's market-leading cameras and switchers across the industry, and we're proud to support them in enhancing their production capabilities while delivering the flexibility and efficiency needed for modern broadcast workflows.'
Cloudbass selected Grass Valley's K-Frame VXP and LDX cameras to meet demanding broadcast requirements, ensuring seamless IP-based workflows and daily redeployment in limited space. The K-Frame VXP offers advanced HDR/SDR colour mapping, flexible keyer configurations, integrated multiviewers and native 100G IP connectivity, all within a compact 6RU frame. The LDX series, with its NativeIP support, flexible output configuration and 3x/6x super slow-motion capabilities, provides optimal performance for hybrid HD/UHD workflows, delivering high-quality imaging and precise HDR colour space handling. With intuitive controls and remote configurability, these technologies allow Cloudbass to achieve agile, high-performance live production with enhanced creative control.
Cloudbass' new trucks are set to debut this fall in top-tier English football coverage, handling high-speed, multi-format workflows for one of the world's most-watched leagues.
Mike Bryan, Technology Director at dB Broadcast, commented: 'Grass Valley's IP-based architecture is a perfect fit for this project, helping Cloudbass maximise both operational efficiency and sustainability. We're excited to be working with them to deliver trucks that are not only powerful but also future-proof and energy efficient.'
This expansion further cements Grass Valley's position as a key provider of integrated, scalable and cost-effective IP remote production solutions, reinforcing its role as a trusted technology partner for forward-thinking media companies in the UK and beyond.
