Public pressure awakens AAP's Mann govt from deep slumber
After years of neglect and repeated pleas, it was ultimately the efforts of local residents and religious volunteers that spurred the Punjab government into action.
The long-deteriorated road from Chhappar Chiri Khurd to Chhapar Chiri Kalan —leading to the historic Gurdwara Sri Fateh Jang Sahib, built in the memory of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur's legendary Chappar Chiri battle against the Mughal Empire— has finally seen the beginning of renovation.
The restoration work began on Saturday, thanks to the initiative of village residents, social workers, and prominent Shiromani Akali Dal leader Parvinder Singh Sohana.
Following their efforts, the Punjab government Sunday officially commenced work on the road from the Kharar side.
Welcoming the government's delayed yet decisive action, Sohana said, 'The government has finally woken up from its deep slumber.
It's a praiseworthy move to allocate Rs 3.77 crore for the upgradation of the road leading to such a significant historical and religious site. 'Better late than never.'
He added that the government's response only came after community members themselves began road repair work from Chhapar Chiri Kalan side. 'Only after the sangat, with our support, started the work yesterday did the government take notice. They have now acknowledged the issue and taken responsibility,' he said.
Highlighting the urgency, Sohana stated that the annual Fateh Diwas is celebrated every May, and this year, the nagar kirtan is scheduled to begin from this location on May 12, en route to Fatehgarh Sahib.
'Considering the heavy footfall during these events, we started the roadwork on our own yesterday with the support of local panchayats and sangat,' he said.
He said that numerous appeals had been made to the government earlier, but no action was taken until now.
The SAD leader criticised the poor condition of link roads throughout the Mohali constituency. 'The state of all link roads in the Mohali area is deplorable. The government must now pay serious attention to infrastructure development so the public can get much-needed relief — and the administration can begin to fulfil its promises,' he said.

Oil Prices At 5-Month High Amid Mideast Crisis, India Has Enough Supplies
New Delhi: Oil prices rose to their highest level since January this year on Monday after the US strikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, with the country threatening to shut Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20 per cent of global crude supply flows. Brent crude futures was up $1.92 or 2.49 per cent at $78.93 a barrel early on Monday. US West Texas Intermediate crude increased $1.89 or 2.56 per cent to $75.73. Brent crude prices surged as much as 5 per cent. However, prices could not sustain at those levels and pared the early advance almost immediately. Crude oil prices extended gains for a third straight week amid rising geopolitical tensions and a sharper-than-expected drawdown in US inventories. The ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran have heightened supply concerns across the Middle East, a region critical to global oil exports. According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), crude stockpiles dropped by 11.5 million barrels last week — significantly higher than the anticipated 2.3 million-barrel decline. 'Crude oil is seen having support at $74.20-73.40 and resistance at $75.65-76.20 in today's session. In Rs terms, crude oil has support at Rs 6,400-6,320 while resistance is at Rs 6,580-6,690,' said Rahul Kalantri, VP Commodities, Mehta Equities Ltd. Even though the possibility of the closure of Hormuz Strait is a threat, it is important to understand that this has always been only a threat and the Strait had never been closed. 'The fact is that the closure of Hormuz Strait will harm Iran and Iran's friend China more than anyone else,' said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited. Meanwhile, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has allayed fears over any disruption in oil supplies to Indian consumers due to the Israel-Iran war and further escalation in geopolitical tensions in the Middle East because of US bombing of Iran's nuclear sites. 'We have been closely monitoring the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East since the past two weeks. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have diversified our supplies in the past few years and a large volume of our supplies do not come through the Strait of Hormuz now,' the minister said. He pointed out that the country's oil marketing companies (Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum) have supplies for several weeks and continue to receive energy supplies from several routes. 'We will take all necessary steps to ensure stability of supplies of fuel to our citizens,' the minister assured. India imports around 85 per cent of its crude oil requirement and a surge in oil prices leads to an increase in its oil import bill and pushes up the rate of inflation which hurts economic growth. However, India has diversified its oil sources by increasing imports from Russia as well as the US and building resilience through strategic reserves.

"Scientific method of corruption": Congress MP Manickam Tagore hits out at Jagan Mohan Reddy over involvement in Rs 3500 crore alleged liquor scam
New Delhi [India], June 23 (ANI): Congress leader Manickam Tagore on Monday criticised former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over the alleged Rs 3500 liquor scam during his tenure. Tagore termed it a 'scientific method of corruption' and mentioned that it was not just a scam but an 'engineered ecosystem,' involving a complex network of individuals and shell companies. In February this year, the incumbent Andhra Pradesh NDA government, led by Chandrababu Naidu, formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption in the State's liquor sector from 2019 to 2024, exposing a massive liquor scam involving 3,500 crore during the YSRCP regime in Andhra Pradesh. . In a detailed 'X' post, the Congress MP mentioned that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has exposed that Jagan Mohan Reddy ran an alleged Rs 3500 crore liquor scam and how it became a 'scientific' method for looting the public money. As per him, the scam began with recruiting over 200 engineering graduates and unemployed youth, who were lured with high incentives and promises of lucrative jobs. These individuals were assigned roles such as cash carriers, storage agents, and front men, without being privy to the full extent of the scam. Explaining the 'Step by Step Corruption' model during the 2019 to 2024 period in Andhra Pradesh, Manickam Tagore wrote in X post, 'Step 1: Target the Unemployed Recruit over 200 engineering grads & jobless youth. Lure them with high incentives. Sell them a dream. Step 2: Role Assignment Use them as cash carriers, storage agents, front men. Make sure they don't know the full picture.' He alleged that the illicit cash was stored in apartments across Tadepalli and Amaravati, using carton boxes that could be easily hidden and moved and the kingpins behind the scam held meetings in Dubai, Tanzania, and South Africa to set up liquor factories and expand their black money empire. 'Step 3: Secure Storage Hubs Store illegal cash in apartments across Tadepalli & Amaravati. Use carton boxes -- easy to hide, easy to move. Step 4: Cut Them Off Once job is done, cut ties. Offer them jobs in Hyderabad or silence money. Clean exit. No loose ends. Step 5: Global Expansion Kingpins hold meetings in Dubai, Tanzania, and South Africa to set up liquor factories. Use illicit funds to expand black money empire. Step 6: Exit Strategy When heat rises, plan international travel. SIT suspects Colombo was a planned safe zone,' posted the Congress leader. He also named Raj Kesireddy, B Chanakya, Chevireddy Bhaskar, and Mohit Reddy as key players of the liquor scam, with deep political links. 'Who Were the Key Players? Raj Kesireddy B Chanakya (his PA) Former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Mohit Reddy And more -- all with deep political links,' he added. Tagore also alleged an understanding between BJP-Jagan and said that Jagan's support for the BJP on various bills may have led to protection from ED raids, CBI summons, and Income Tax action. 'Modi-Shah's Role: Silence = Protection Jagan supported BJP on: Article 370 CAA Farm Laws Rajya Sabha bills What did he get in return? No ED raids No CBI summons No Income Tax action Delhi protected Andhra's biggest looter,' he added. The Congress leader questioned the SIT investigation into the scam, its seriousness and potential narrative control by new power centres and demanded that everyone involved be booked, overseas black money be investigated, and those accountable be held. 'Why SIT Now? Now that Jagan is out of power, SIT is moving. But the question remains: Is SIT serious? Or just narrative control by new power centres? What Must Happen Next? Book everyone involved Trace overseas black money Investigate BJP-Jagan understanding Hold Delhi & Andhra players accountable Final Word This isn't just a liquor scam. It's a case study in how power, politics, and youth were manipulated for mega corruption. And it was all scientifically executed -- with help from Delhi. Let justice now be as methodical as the scam itself,' posted Tagore. (ANI)
