Zaggle Q1 profit jumps 56% YoY to Rs 26 crore; revenue up 32%

Spend management platform Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services reported a 56.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase in net profit to Rs 26.1 crore for the June quarter, driven by revenue growth across segments and new customer additions.Revenue from operations rose 31.6% YoY to Rs 331.9 crore, while adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (Ebitda) rose 27.9% to Rs 32.7 crore.The Hyderabad-based company added several strategic clients during the quarter, including Hindustan Pencils, Apollo Health, Mo Engage, Novozymes, DTDC, CK Birla Healthcare, and Truecaller. Its customer base spans across banking, technology, healthcare, manufacturing, FMCG, infrastructure, and automobile sectors.Total expenses rose to Rs 309.5 crore from Rs 233.9 crore a year earlier, with more than 70% attributed to the cost of point redemption and gift cards. Spending on incentives and cashbacks stood at Rs 95.5 crore.'This is by far our best first-quarter performance, despite being a slower quarter in the year. With strong fundamentals in terms of growth in the total number of customers and users, healthy growth was visible across our revenue streams,' said Raj P Narayanam, founder and executive chairman, Zaggle.The company is deploying artificial intelligence (AI) tools for sales automation, customer support, engagement, and bill processing and is also pursuing inorganic growth through investments and acquisitions.In July, Zaggle announced it would acquire a 100% stake in fintech startup Rio Money for Rs 22 crore , marking its entry into the consumer credit card space via Unified Payments Interface (UPI). It also acquired spend management startup Dice Enterprises and GreenEdge Enterprises, a loyalty solutions provider.Narayanam said inorganic growth plans were on track, with portfolio company Mobileware Technologies delivering strong performance. He added that Zaggle would continue to assess merger and acquisition opportunities selectively while exploring adjacent sectors for expansion.Founded in 2011, Zaggle operates in the business-to-business-to-customer (B2B2C) segment, offering prepaid card programmes, SaaS-based expense and rewards management tools, and incentive platforms for corporates. It works with multiple banking partners and, as of June 30, 2025, had issued over 50 million prepaid cards and served more than 3,500 corporate clients and 3.39 million users.Shares of Zaggle closed at Rs 367.3 on the BSE on Thursday.

In July, Qantas Airways disclosed that criminals had infiltrated one of its call centres, accessing personal information of six million customers. Private equity firm BGH Capital, which is selling CyberCX, has not disclosed any financial terms. Accenture declined to provide additional details, while BGH Capital didn't respond to Reuters' requests for comment on the reported valuation. The deal underscores the surging demand for advanced digital security services as businesses worldwide face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats that disrupt operations and compromise sensitive data. Melbourne-based CyberCX was formed in 2019 through the merger of 12 smaller cybersecurity firms backed by BGH Capital. The company now employs about 1,400 people and runs security operations centres across Australia and New Zealand, with offices in London and New York. CyberCX is led by John Paitaridis, formerly managing director of Optus Business, and Chief Strategy Officer Alastair MacGibbon, Australia's former national cybersecurity coordinator. The leadership's ties to Optus are notable, given the telecommunications company's 2022 data breach, which exposed names, birth dates, addresses, phone numbers, email contacts and passport and driver's license numbers. Since 2015, Accenture has completed 20 security acquisitions, including recent purchases of Brazilian cyber defense firm Morphus, MNEMO Mexico and Spain-based Innotec Security. On the domestic front, the firm entered into a $700 million collaborative agreement with Telstra in February, aiming to implement AI capabilities across the telecommunications company.

Panaji, Aug 16 (PTI) Daily wage workers across municipalities and government bodies in Goa, who have long awaited recognition and fair pay, will see a significant hike in their salaries and social security benefits starting this month. For years, daily wage workers across municipalities, corporations and government bodies have carried out some of the state's most essential services — from cleaning streets to maintaining civic infrastructure — often with little pay and few benefits. Under a new government scheme, workers who have completed seven years in service are now set to receive not just a substantial salary hike but also recognition and security. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant last month announced that nearly 3,000 daily wage workers employed with government departments, corporations, autonomous bodies and local bodies will see their monthly earnings rise by up to 51 per cent. Effective from August 1, the scheme also entitles eligible workers to the Employee Provident Fund (EPF), paid leaves, maternity benefits, annual increments, and access to central social security schemes. Earlier, a daily wage labourer earned around Rs 12,818 per month. With the implementation of the new scheme, he will earn Rs 20,000 per month along with EPF contribution, Sawant had said, adding that the measure will cost the state exchequer around Rs 4 crore annually. The decision has brought a wave of relief and hope for workers. 'I have been working in the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) for many years. We work together as a team with other labourers. I thank our government and my superiors for this," said Yeshwant Bhatkule, who has been working with the civic body for more than eight years. Bhatkule is among hundreds of CCP workers to benefit from this scheme. Sunita Kamble, who has put in seven years of service, expressed gratitude. 'The government has increased the salary, and we feel good. I thank the government for this," she said. Now, with the labourers getting paid well, garbage collection supervisors say their task has become a little easier. 'The government has increased the salary of our workers. They are happy and satisfied, and are working with vigour. We hope the government works towards their welfare every year," said Mahendra, a CCP supervisor. Officials believe the measure brings daily wagers a step closer to regular government employees in terms of dignity and entitlements. 'The entitlements include salary, which is now on par with regular workers and has almost doubled from what they used to get, bringing it close to Rs 28,000," said Brijesh Manerkar, director of the State Municipal Administration. He said that the workers are also entitled to leave benefits, and women employees can avail maternity leave. Unitree Robotics brought the spotlight-grabbing machines at Beijing's set piece robots competition on Friday, burnishing its reputation as a national champion for China's ambitions in developing AI and humanoids. The Hangzhou-based company's H1 robot won gold in a 1,500-meter humanoid race with a listed time of 6 minutes and 35 seconds, beating the average mile time on Strava by close to four minutes. Another Unitree machine also made it to the podium in a race that highlighted day one of the World Humanoid Robot Games. The three-day event hosted in the Chinese capital is the latest showcase for the nation's challengers to Tesla Inc. and other US companies developing products in the emerging field of advanced robotics. While Tesla's Optimus humanoid is still largely just a promise in development, Unitree's alternatives showed off various athletic feats, adding to Chinese steps forward that included a half-marathon race in April. Mishaps continue to pervade these nascent ventures, as several robot racers tripped on the tracks and one even lost an arm. In soccer games played nearby, skills like passing and tackling were nowhere to be found, with the game played more like rugby where one robot tries to brute-force the ball into the other team's net. Many of the robots at the show also still have human operators controlling them via joysticks. In a boxing ring set up at the center of the National Speed Skating Oval arena, contestants from local universities pit Unitree's G1 models against each other. The robots, distinguishable by colored headbands and gloves, wowed the audience with their kicks and swings. Unitree's prominence has grown rapidly after Chief Executive Officer Wang Xingxing joined a group of tech executives including Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s billionaire co-founder Jack Ma in a high-profile meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier this year, an event designed to highlight Beijing's support for private tech enterprise. Beyond the main stage, there were demonstrations like a machine arm playing table tennis and robots on wheels shooting hoops. Two-legged humanoid competitors will compete for 26 gold medals in competitions from track and field races to soccer and kickboxing. Nvidia Corp. boss Jensen Huang has said that robotics has the potential to grow into a multitrillion-dollar industry, while Elon Musk also sees Tesla's Optimus having the potential to generate $10 trillion in revenue. China, meanwhile, is aggressively pushing ahead in its effort to match or surpass US ventures. Unitree's Wang said earlier this month that 'it feels like we are at a point of one to three years before ChatGPT emerged.' When the artificial intelligence required to make robots truly humanlike is ready, Beijing wants to be at the forefront and ready to capture the opportunity.
