Despite being one over at the turn, he stormed back with six birdies down the back nine, forcing a playoff against J.J. Spaun . After pars on the first 18th-hole attempt and birdies on the second, Rose sealed victory with a 10-foot birdie putt on his third attempt.
Reflecting on the comeback, Rose told Sky Sports: 'That was an amazing last 90 minutes. I never stopped believing,' adding: 'I played unbelievable golf coming down the stretch and had so much fun with it. When I bring my best, I know I'm good enough to play against the best players in the world.' (via. Australian Golf Digest)
On his age-defying form, he noted: 'I get fitter, feel better as the pressure builds.
That's hard to practice, hard to teach. It's nice to know it hasn't left me at this ripe old age.' Fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood, who narrowly missed out, was full of admiration, 'Yeah, at 45 he's not slowing down at all. He's cracking on. He's still very fit, very healthy, very motivated. I think he's a great person in golf to look up to.
' (via. Sporty)
Rose's victory not only rejuvenated his individual narrative but also had broader implications: it propelled him up FedEx Cup standings (fourth place) and confirmed J.J.
Spaun's spot on the U.S. Ryder Cup team . The win guaranteed Rose's place in next week's BMW Championship, as part of the Tour's elite top-30.
Justin Rose's triumph in Memphis serves as a stirring testament to perseverance, fitness, and faith in one's own capabilities—especially in the face of age-related expectations. His ability to elevate performance when it mattered most, deliver under pressure, and stay 'meticulous, precise, prepared,' despite being 45, redefines conventional sporting narratives. More than just a win, it's a powerful statement: experience, conviction, and unwavering preparation remain invaluable assets in elite sport.
As he surges ahead in the FedEx Cup and sets his sights on the Ryder Cup and beyond, one thing is clear—Justin Rose has proven definitively: age is just a number.

How ultra rich ultra strict college with no booze, no s*x rules is rewriting the rules for America's top athletes (Image via Getty) AJ Dybantsa is one of the biggest basketball stars in America right now. At just 18 years old, he is the top basketball prospect in the country. First published by Daily Mail, many people expect him to be the first pick in the 2026 NBA draft. But what surprised many is where he chose to play college basketball. Instead of going to famous schools like Alabama or North Carolina, AJ picked Brigham Young University, or BYU. This is a private school in Provo, Utah, known for strict rules that stop students from drinking alcohol, smoking, or having s*x before marriage. AJ's choice shocked many sports fans and experts because BYU is not known for winning national basketball titles. AJ Dybantsa's choice of BYU shows a new path for top athletes With a strict yet loving father, Ace Dybantsa, AJ Dybantsa was raised near Boston, Massachusetts. Ten push-ups every morning and evening were assigned to all of his youngsters by AJ's father when he was young. Because discipline and accountability are important to his father, those lessons helped AJ become a basketball star. Last year, AJ stunned everyone by signing up for BYU. The school has a strict Honor Code that prohibits alcohol consumption, smoking, and extramarital s*x. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jolie-Pitt Family Shows Support For Shiloh's Change Drivepedia Undo Although it has a robust support system and expanding sports program, BYU has never claimed a national basketball title. AJ's decision reflects major changes in college athletics. Players can now profit from endorsements thanks to fresh rules called NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness). With some sources claiming it might reach $8.5 million, AJ's contract at BYU is thought to be valued at roughly $5 million. Even against conventional sports powerhouses, this positions BYU as a formidable opponent for top athletes. The school has a significant sports budget and is willing to invest to create a successful program. Young used to coach NBA players like Joel Embiid and Kevin Durant. He signed a seven-year contract with BYU worth $30 million. Young told the school's richest donors that he can turn BYU into a top basketball program. The school now has a full professional staff, including dietitians and trainers, to support players like AJ. In 2027, BYU will also welcome Ryder Lyons, a top football recruit. Lyons is expected to be BYU's best quarterback recruit in 20 years. Both athletes will help BYU grow as a place for top sports talent. AJ Dybantsa plans to spend just one season at BYU before entering the NBA draft. His father says AJ knows the strict rules and the consequences if he breaks them. The family's focus on discipline could make this a successful new chapter for both AJ and BYU basketball. Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood clinch Ryder Cup spots
With their performances at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday, England's Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood clinched spots on Team Europe for the Ryder Cup next month against the United States. HT Image Rose, who won the $20 million tournament in Memphis in a playoff, and Fleetwood, who struggled down the stretch to finish one shot off the pace, earned enough points to join Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy as automatic qualifiers for the competition on Sept. 26-28 at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, N.Y. Team Europe captain Luke Donald is required to select the top six players in the Europe Team Rankings when the British Masters concludes on Aug. 24. Donald gets to choose the other six golfers to round out his team, which will defend the Cup it won in 2023 in Italy. "Amazing to have both of these guys back on the Team," Donald wrote on X above a Ryder Cup Europe post on Rose and Fleetwood making the team. "They bring so much both on and off the course. Let's Go!" Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, England's Tyrrell Hatton and Austria's Sepp Straka hold fourth through sixth place heading into this week's play. MacIntyre will be part of the BMW Championship field at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. Straka, however, withdrew from the $20 million tournament on Monday for family reasons. Hatton will be playing the LIV Tour event in Indianapolis, where he can not collect points. Ireland's Shane Lowry, Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard and Sweden's Ludvig Aberg are within striking range of being automatic qualifiers. Lowry trails Straka for sixth by just 21.16 points. As long as Lowry completes the BMW Championship this weekend, he'll earn enough points to climb past Hatton and Straka. Competitors at the BMW Championship receive 1.5 points for each $1,000 they earn. --Field Level Media
