Gurugram: Tyre burst on SPR kills 22-year-old, critically injures another
According to police, the accident took place between 12 and 12.15am on Tuesday when the deceased, identified as Vikas, and his childhood friend Sachin were on their way to their homes in Mohammadpur Jharsa, Sector 36, from Faridabad. Police said Sachin, who was driving a Maruti Suzuki Swift, is in critical condition and on ventilator support at a private hospital in Sector 38.
'It was Sachin who was behind the wheel… He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sector 38. He was on ventilator support,' said Sandeep Kumar, public relations officer (PRO) of Gurugram police.
According to investigators, Sachin had gone to Faridabad on Sunday to drop his sister at her in-laws' house after she visited her parental home for Raksha Bandhan. Vikas had accompanied him. The duo were returning late Monday night when one of the tyres of their car exploded, causing the vehicle to veer violently off course. Sachin lost control, and the car overturned several times before hitting a roadside iron pole, police added.
Commuters alerted the police control room, and two emergency response vehicles reached the spot. Both victims were rushed to Sector 10A civil hospital without waiting for ambulances due to their critical condition. Doctors declared Vikas dead on arrival and referred Sachin to a higher centre for advanced treatment.
The PRO said no foul play was suspected by the families. An inquiry under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was initiated based on the statement of Vikas's family at Bilaspur police station. His body was handed over to the family after an autopsy on Tuesday.

Mumbai Police arrested a woman within 12 hours of her allegedly committing a Rs 1.5 crore robbery at her married sister's home in Mumbai's Vasai. Her plan failed as police quickly identified her through the CCTV footage and family input. She was brought back to Vasai, where she confessed to the have registered a case against her under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Five, including two children, drown in state
Bhopal/Jabalpur: Five people, among them two children, have drowned in separate incidents in Balaghat and Sidhi districts. In Balaghat's Rampayli area, three relatives were swept away while bathing in the Wainganga river at Beni village on Tuesday evening. The victims, Mohit Burde, 21, his cousin Akhil Burde, 17, and Rakesh Nandarawar, 32, had gone to the river with Akhil's father Nandan Burde while visiting for Raksha Bandhan and the Bhujali festival. "A total of five people went there to bathe in the Wainganga river, and of those, three drowned. All the bodies were recovered on Wednesday and sent for autopsy," Waraseoni SDOP Abhishek Chowdhary told TOI. Sources said Mohit was pursuing a BCA degree and Akhil was a college student. In another incident at Sidhi district's Jamodi Kalan village, two cousins, Surya Prakash, 7, and Surya, 9, drowned in a rainwater-filled pit on Tuesday evening. Sources said the boys entered the pit to bathe, unaware of its depth. When they did not return, locals found their clothes on the river bank and alerted police. IB inspector gets 1-yr RI for impersonating CBI officer to extort money
1 2 Mohali: A special CBI court has sentenced an Intelligence Bureau (IB) inspector to one year of rigorous imprisonment for impersonating a CBI officer and attempting to extort money from undertrials or falsely implicate innocent persons. The verdict, delivered by Special CBI Judge Baljinder Singh Sra, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict, Harpreet Singh alias HS Sandhu, according to CBI public prosecutor Amol Narang. The court granted Harpreet bail to enable him to appeal before a higher court within 60 days. Narang said the case began after a complainant alleged that Harpreet, through his associate Vikas Bharti, demanded Rs 70,000 to avoid arrest by the CBI. Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and arrested Vikas red-handed while accepting the money on Harpreet's behalf. During the trial, charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act could not be proved against Harpreet. Vikas, who was earlier declared a proclaimed offender, remains absconding. The case was registered in July 2016, and the chargesheet was filed in Jan 2017. Charges were framed in June 2019. The court sentenced Harpreet to three months' rigorous imprisonment under Sections 120-B read with 170 of the IPC, and one year RI with a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 170 IPC.
