Ludhiana trader abducted, robbed of cash and mobile phone

A 65-year-old cycle parts trader was kidnapped and robbed by two unidentified miscreants in Ludhiana on the pretext of making a payment against an order. The incident took place on May 23 and has since prompted an FIR by the Division Number 6 police. According to the victim, Rajinderpal Singla, a resident of Urban Estate, Dugri, he received a call from an unknown number from a person posing as a trader who placed an order for 43,200 cycle handle parts. The caller asked Singla to collect the payment near Pahwa Hospital on Gill Road. 'When I arrived at the location, the accused, who were in a Maruti Suzuki Swift, made me sit in their car. They thrashed me inside the moving car, snatched ₹3,000 and my mobile phone,' said Singla. The ordeal worsened when the accused demanded more money. 'As I wasn't carrying more cash, they forcibly took both my and my wife's debit cards, made me reveal the PINs, and withdrew ₹40,000 from an ATM,' Singla added. The miscreants later dropped me near Green Land School in Dugri and fled, the victim said. After informing the police, Singla lodged a formal complaint. He also alleged that the accused called him again later, demanding more money and issuing threats. Assistant sub-inspector Onkar Singh, who is investigating the case, said that a case has been registered under Sections 140(2) (kidnapping or abduction), 308(1) (extortion), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 'Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits,' Singh said.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Registers 2.5X Sales Growth, Brezza Faces A Dip

Maruti Suzuki has seen mixed results for its popular models, the Swift hatchback and the Brezza SUV, in April 2025. The Swift has performed exceptionally well, with a remarkable 256% increase in sales YoY, while the Brezza experienced a very minor decline. This reflects changes in consumer preferences and the effects of recent product updates. Maruti Suzuki Swift: Sales In April 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Swift sold 14,592 units, up significantly from 4,094 units in April 2024. This 256% growth is the highest among the top 25 selling cars in India during this time. The fourth-generation Swift, launched on May 9, 2024, has helped boost sales. This model features a new design, modern interiors, and improved infotainment systems. These updates have attracted Indian customers, especially younger buyers looking for value and style. Maruti Suzuki Brezza: Sales In April 2025, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza sold 16,971 units, down from 17,113 units in April 2024, resulting in a minor 1% decrease YoY. The Brezza still ranks among the top three best-selling cars in the country, but its decline is due to stiff competition in the compact SUV market from vehicles like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra Scorpio. Maruti Suzuki's April 2025 sales figures reflect a mix of innovation and market challenges. The Swift's sales surged 2.5 times due to its new design, highlighting the need for model refreshes. In contrast, the Brezza saw a marginal decline, underscoring the importance of ongoing improvements in the SUV segment. This highlights the need for Maruti to focus on innovation across its vehicle lineup.
