Airbus Helicopters signs MoUs with key players in Malaysian aerospace and defence sectors
The agreements were signed in Paris in the presence of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, during an official visit to France.
Under the first agreement, Airbus Helicopters and the Coalition of Defence Industry Malaysia – CDI (M) – plan to pursue industrial opportunities with the latter's member companies specialising in aerospace and defence development.
The MoU marks the first of its kind between Airbus and the Malaysian defence industry, establishing a dedicated framework to drive military helicopter innovations, growth and development in the local defence sector.
Under the second agreement, Airbus Helicopters will partner MRO service provider Global Turbine Asia (GTA) to advance in-country helicopter component MRO capabilities. This strategic collaboration aims to strengthen Malaysia's defence ecosystem and accelerate industrial growth in alignment with the nation's plans to acquire new helicopters for its armed forces and related governmental agencies.

We are committed to reinforcing these relationships and exploring new areas of cooperation, ensuring sustained innovation, growth, and long-term value for all stakeholders,' said Global Turbine Asia executive chairman and CDI (M) president Datuk Nonee Ashirin Datuk Mohd Radzi.

High Court orders compulsory winding up of TH Heavy Engineering New Straits Times KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has ordered TH Heavy Engineering Bhd's (THHE) liquidation to proceed under court supervision, following concerns over how the voluntary process was managed. In a landmark decision, only the second of its kind in Malaysian legal history, the court ruled that the voluntary process failed to uphold the interests of creditors, especially independent ones holding the majority of THHE's debt. The consensus among independent creditors—who hold 74.6% of debts—alongside support from parties like NSF Engineering and the lack of opposition, presented a strong case for court-supervised liquidation, Justice Atan Mustapha Yussof Ahmad said in a written judgment. "The breaches of statutory provisions in the voluntary liquidation process, conflicts of interest of the interim liquidators, questionable circumstances surrounding the voluntary liquidation, and the compelling need for independent investigation all point inexorably to the conclusion that compulsory liquidation under court supervision is necessary," Atan said. The judge outlined the basis for granting the petition by Global Mariner Offshore Services Sdn Bhd (GMOS) and two other creditors under Sections 464(1) and (2) of the Companies Act 2016, including the appointment of independent liquidators. THHE was incorporated on Nov 18, 2003 under the Companies Act 1965, and was formerly known as Ramunia Holdings Berhad. The company was previously a public company listed on Bursa Malaysia, involved in the business of fabrication of oil and gas structures, construction services and management services. On April 28, 2017, THHE was classified as a PN17 affected listed issuer. Despite being granted eight extensions over a period of five years, THHE failed to submit an acceptable regularisation plan to address its PN17 status. Consequently, on 5 May, 2022, THHE was delisted by Bursa Malaysia. THHE's majority shareholder is Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB), a Finance Ministry-owned entity set up in 2010 to take over assets from Lembaga Tabung Haji. The court ordered THHE be wound up by the court under Section 464(1) of the CA 2016. It also ordered Lim Tian Huat and Chiang Teng Guan to be appointed as joint and several liquidators of THHE.

'The High Commission of Malaysia in New Zealand supports Usanita's strategic programmes here (New Zealand), which reflect Malaysia's strengths in entrepreneurship, culture, and economic diplomacy,' she said after the soft launch ceremony of 'Bridge to Brilliance (BtB) 4.0: Australasia' held by Usanita at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Auckland, Saturday. Among the BtB 4.0 programmes that Usanita will implement is a traditional Malaysian heritage fashion showcase in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations in Wellington this September. IIUM gets new president
INTERNATIONAL Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) has appointed Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Hussain (pic) as its 10th president. He takes over from Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, whose term ended on June 30. Abdul Rashid's appointment for a three-year term started on July 1. The term, which will end on June 30, 2028, was made with the consent of IIUM constitutional head Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar. Abdul Rashid was appointed in recognition of his distinguished leadership and reputation in the Malaysian corporate sector, particularly in Islamic finance. The founder of Rashid Hussain Berhad (RHB) banking group has been serving as Tabung Haji's chairman of the board of directors since 2023. He also served as a member of the IIUM board of governors since 2018, and was appointed as Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) pro-chancellor in 2024. The Higher Education Ministry, in a statement dated July 1, expressed confidence that Abdul Rashid's appointment would further strengthen IIUM's role as a centre of excellence rooted in Islamic values, while enhancing its visibility and competitiveness both nationally and internationally.
