Queens of the Stone Age Announce ‘Alive in the Catacombs' Concert Film, Album
Queens of the Stone Age have announced the release of their unique live performance in the Catacombs of Paris as a concert film and album.
Recorded in July 2024 and set to be released on June 6 via Matador Records/Remote Control Records, the unique performance saw the rock outfit head beneath the surface of Paris to perform within the sprawling 200-mile ossuary. According to a description of the location, its foundation is built out of 'several million bodies buried in the 1700s,' with many of the walls composed of skulls and bones.

Frontman Josh Homme had dreamed of organizing such a performance since visiting almost two decades earlier, though was denied permission by the city of Paris, who had never previously allowed a band to play within. However, the respect the band held for the location ultimately resulted in their performance officially being sanctioned.
'The Catacombs of Paris are a fertile ground for the imagination,' said Hélène Furminieux of Les Catacombes de Paris. 'It is important to us that artists take hold of this universe and offer a sensitive interpretation of it. Going underground and confronting reflections on death can be a deeply intense experience.
'Josh seems to have felt in his body and soul the full potential of this place. The recordings resonate perfectly with the mystery, history, and a certain introspection, notably perceptible in the subtle use of the silence within the Catacombs.'
The unique nature of the location results in Homme and his bandmates – Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita and Jon Theodore – being backed by three-piece string section as they perform a stripped-back set planned and played with deference to the Catacombs.
Recorded live with no overdubs or edits, the performance is paired with the acoustic ambience of dripping water, echoes and natural resonance as atmospheric lighting spotlights the band.
'We're so stripped down because that place is so stripped down, which makes the music so stripped down, which makes the words so stripped down,' Homme explains. 'It would be ridiculous to try to rock there. All those decisions were made by that space. That space dictates everything, it's in charge. You do what you're told when you're in there.'
Queens of the Stone Age: Alive in the Catacombs will be available to rent or purchase via the band's website, with an audio-only release to be announced in the coming weeks.
Notably, this isn't Queens of the Stone Age's first subterranean gig, with the group previously performing 2,300 feet underground at German salt mine, Erlebnisbergwerk Sondershausen, in November 2007. Originally planned for wider release, the semi-acoustic performance is yet to see the light of day, with the band's split with Interscope Records assumed by fans to be the reason for its indefinite delay.

This Is the No. 1 City in the U.S. for BBQ, According to Yelp
It's a statistical fact that warm weather makes people want to buy barbecue foods. With the (hot) dog days of summer just around the corner, that means any second now you're going to start craving something grilled, charred, and smothered in sauce. And Yelp knows exactly where you should go to get it. Yelp compiled a list of the top cities in the U.S. for "smoked meats and mouth-watering barbecue sauces." It explained in a statement provided to Travel + Leisure that it created the list by ranking each location using a "blended metric including consumer interest in BBQ, total business count, and average business rating." It noted that it limited this year's list to two cities per state to "ensure geographic diversity." After looking at all the data, unsurprisingly, Austin won. "Austin reigns supreme as the No. 1 region for barbecue," Yelp shared. "Whether you like slow-smoked beef brisket, pork ribs, or house-made sausages, Austin has earned its reputation as a top barbecue destination." It noted that Austin has earned this reputation thanks to beloved spots like Terry Black's Barbecue and food trucks like Micklethwait Craft Meat in East Austin, which both earn high praise from Yelp users. "Yelp users praise Austin's barbecue for its simple seasonings, which let the quality of the meat shine. Trays of tender brisket, flavorful ribs, and pulled pork sandwiches are among the most photographed dishes," it added. "Many users also highlight the perfectly tender texture of the meats at spots like Interstellar BBQ and Salt Lick BBQ." Also at the top of the list is San Antonio, which came in at No. 2. "The area's diverse barbecue scene includes food trucks like Brisket Boys and Cake-N-Que, which showcase a variety of smoked meat styles," Yelp shared. It's followed by Kansas City, Missouri, which earned high praise thanks to its "signature sauce and legendary burnt ends" at restaurants like Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que, which "boasts more than 3,500 5-star reviews. Then there's Memphis, Tennessee, which Yelp noted is "well-known for its dry-rub ribs and pulled pork, offered at beloved restaurants like Cozy Corner and Elwood's Shack." And rounding out the top five is Charleston, South Carolina, which ranked highly thanks to its traditional Lowcountry styles. "With a mix of historic BBQ joints like Poogan's Smokehouse and modern, pitmaster-driven spots likePalmira Barbecue, Charleston blends time-honored smoking techniques with innovative flavors that Yelp users love," the site added. Watch: Benson Boone performs, discusses 'American Heart' on 'Tonight'
June 5 (UPI) -- Benson Boone performed "Momma Song" and discussed his upcoming album American Heart on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. The singer, 22, took to the stage in a brown leather jacket and sang about a profound love for his mother, along with a knowledge that moments with her would one day become memories he'd cherish. The track will appear on American Heart, due June 20. He told Fallon that his album title was inspired by his song "Young American Heart." "And to me that's like the inspiration track of the whole album, and it's about me and my best friend," he told Fallon. "...When we were younger, we got in a car accident, and it wasn't, like, a typical car accident. We were driving in a field. We were driving in his backyard and we flipped the car." He said he was either 15 or 16 when the wreck occurred, and it changed his perspective. "It was like the first time in my life that I was like, 'Oh my gosh, like, this dude, my best friend, he means everything to me. I don't want to die right now,'" Boone said. Boone also discussed his upcoming arena tour, which kicks off Aug. 22 in Minnesota and winds down Oct. 8 in Utah. "This is by far the biggest tour I've ever done, and it's a big moment for me, for people to just know who I am, you go to the show and this is, by far, the best performance I will ever, up to this point in my life, put on," he said. "And it's a full-on show. I might even change my outfit during the show."
