
Man arrested, stolen property worth ₹8 lakh recovered in Anakapalli district
The Anakapalli (Rural) police on Tuesday arrested a person, who was allegedly involved in a series of thefts in the district. The police have recovered ₹8 lakh worth of property from the accused.
The arrested was identified as Ch. Demudu Naidu alias Naidu, a native of Devarapalli, Anakapalli, and a resident of Gajuwaka.
Superintendent of Police Tuhin Sinha said that the accused has been addicted to vices since small age and started to commit offences with his friends to lead a lavish life. He has been committing the house break-ins over a period of time. Cases were reported from the victims at Anakapalli (Rural), Chodavaram and Sabbavaram. After committing thefts, the accused stores them at Devarapalli.
Following the directions from the SP, under the supervision of Additional SP (Crimes) L. Mohan Rao, a team of police led by Anakapalli in-charge DSP B. Mohan Rao and Anakapalli Rural Circle Inspector G. Ashok Kumar arrested the accused. Acting on a tip-off, the police teams intercepted Naidu at Marturu Junction, while he was heading to Anakapalli to sell the gold on Tuesday. The recovered property include 7.5 tola gold ornaments and 28 tola silver ornaments.
Mr. Tuhin Sinha appealed to people to utilise the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) or install CCTV cameras in their houses to prevent crimes.

Prayagraj: Cops have announced a Rs 25,000 cash reward for absconding gram pradhan Bhoop Narayan Pal, a resident of Lohda village, in connection with Rambabu Tiwari suicide case. Police said that Rambabu Tiwari (45) committed suicide by swallowing a poisonous substance on June 4, accusing the sitting gram pradhan and local police of sending his younger son behind bars on fake charges. Superintendent of Police (Kaushambi) Rajesh Kumar has suspended two sub-inspectors and sent the inspector (Saini) to police lines after finding their role dubious and ordered a fresh probe into the incident. Samagra Shiksha fraud accused had 13 bank accounts, 68 complaints nationwide
Representational Panaji: The probe into the alleged theft of Rs 4.6 crore from the Goa Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (GSSA) bank account uncovered that the accused have 13 bank accounts used in 68 cyber complaints involving cyber frauds of Rs 1.5 crore registered across the country. Two FIRs are already registered in Bihar and Bengal. The investigation revealed that the accused persons are part of an organised financial fraud racket, wherein current account holders are identified and their banking instruments (ATM cards and cheque books) are obtained for illegal financial transactions. The accused played a crucial role in coordinating and arranging these accounts for the co-accused, SP (crime branch) Rahul Gupta told TOI . The role of an insider from the Bank of India is also being investigated. These accused seem to be connected to someone with access to confidential bank data, he said. Goa police transferred the case from Porvorim police to the crime branch. Goa police arrested five persons in the case. Goa police arrested Purnashish Sana from Kolkata in the case. Alamin Mondal and Bidyadhar Mallick were arrested from Delhi. Rabin Paul was arrested from Kolkata, who was released on bail. Another person identified as Sumanta Mandal was arrested, and he is on transit remand, the SP said. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Sana introduced Paul to Alamin for providing his bank account number, and Alamin shared this entire detail/access of the bank account with Subhashish Sikdar, Gupta said. The SP said that Rs 1.8 crore was reflected in the bank statement of Paul. Sikdar illegally withdrew a sum of Rs 1.8 crore from Paul by presenting forged cheques to different banks, which were processed as genuine. The withdrawn amount belonged to the savings bank account of the Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Society.

'Electricity theft' case: Allahabad HC orders restoration of power supply at Sambhal MP Barq's home; calls Rs 1.91 crore fine 'arbitrary'
Zia Ur Rehman Barq (File photo) NEW DELHI: The Allahabad high court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) to restore power supply at the house of Samajwadi Party 's (SP) Lok Sabha member from Sambhal, Zia Ur Rehman Barq. A division bench of justices Saumitra Dayal Singh and Sandeep Jain, passed the order on a writ petition by Barq in the electricity theft case . It also described as "arbitrary," UPPCL's Rs 1.91 crore fine on the SP leader over allegations of electricity theft. "Submission is that even if the inspection report and adverse facts allegedly found therein are accepted, no jurisdiction arose with the respondent authorities to make assessment for a period of 12 years," the court observed in its June 4 order, according to news agency PTI. "The maximum period for which assessment may have been made could not exceed one year. By breaching the statutory period of assessment, wholly unnatural and arbitrary demand of Rs 1 crore and 91 lakhs has been raised. The petitioner cannot be made to deposit 50% of such illegal demand to maintain an appeal," it added.
