Former Arsenal star 'disappointed' in Liverpool fans for Trent Alexander-Arnold boos
Former Arsenal star Paul Dickov has admitted that he was "disappointed" to witness Liverpool fans booing Trent Alexander-Arnold - after the defender announced his intention to leave his boyhood club.
The right-back received a mixed reception from supporters following his introduction from the bench in a 2-2 stalemate against the Gunners at the weekend. Greeted with boos from some Kopites when entering play, the Reds vice-caption was subsequently jeered at multiple points during the second half — albeit while also garnering applauds from other members of the Anfield faithful.
These scenes sparked widespread debate among fans and pundits, with Liverpool legend John Aldridge admitting to his own "unease" at the treatment of Alexander-Arnold. Meanwhile, Sky Sports analyst and Kop hero Jamie Carragher also acknowledged that he was uncomfortable with the notion of jeering a player while they are still representing the club.

Likewise, Alexander-Arnold's teammates Andy Robertson and Virgil van Dijk issued their own responses to questions on the subject, expressing regret that the full-back will be departing. Moreover, head coach Arne Slot remained diplomatic on the issue, refusing to condemn supporters for expressing their views in this manner on the terraces.
Now, ex-Arsenal forward Dickov has waded into the discourse, as he acknowledged that he was not necessarily surprised by the scenes at Anfield. That said, he confessed that he was "disappointed" in fans who engaged in booing the defender, telling 10bet : "It's a different society, things have changed.
"I'm slightly disappointed because when you look at Trent, what he's given to the club, he's been there since he was a schoolboy. He's won everything and at some point I think you should respect everybody's decision if they want to go and leave."
Addressing widespread speculation that the player is gearing up for a move to Real Madrid as a free agent, the retired forward, continued: "If he wasn't leaving for Real Madrid, maybe it's more of a yes, but it's been said loads of times: if Real Madrid come calling, it's very, very difficult to turn down."
The Scotsman also conceded that the jeers had come from a vocal minority of supporters, saying: "To be fair, the Liverpool fans, I know quite a few of them here, and I know some that were at Anfield at the weekend. They say that it was a minority doing it, but sometimes the minority have the biggest voice, which is quite disappointing."
Ultimately, Dickov wishes Alexander-Arnold well for the future as he prepares to embark on the next chapter in his career. The ex-Manchester City attacker added: "From my personal point of view, I'd like to wish Trent all the best. I think he's a wonderful player.

"I think he's been great for Liverpool. And as I said, if you get the chance to go and play at Real Madrid and go on and win big trophies again with a different club, all the very best to him."
Tipping Arsenal's William Saliba to potentially follow his Liverpool counterpart to Santiago Bernabeu this summer, he posited: "That's the other thing. You would like to think not, but if you're a big player in a big team that isn't winning things and you're seeing your peers, your international teammates away at other clubs and winning things, it's going to be really difficult to keep them.
"Saliba, and you can put Declan Rice in that category, you can put Saka in that category, Gabriel as well. All the top, top players want to be competing for and especially actually winning things. So not just for Mikel's sake, for the players also staying, I think it's going to be really important that Arsenal do win something next season."

Report: Leverkusen reject second Liverpool bid for Wirtz
Germany's Florian Wirtz (C) takes part in a training session of the German national soccer team, ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Nations League semi-final soccer match against Portugal. Daniel Karmann/dpa Bayer Leverkusen have rejected a second offer from English champions Liverpool for Germany playmaker Florian Wirtz, top football magazine Kicker reported on Monday. The second bid is said to have consisted of a fixed sum of €118 million ($134 million) plus €12 million in bonus payments. In the first round of negotiations, Kicker said Liverpool offered €100 million plus €15 million in additional payments. Advertisement Leverkusen executives are hoping for the €150 million managing director Fernando Carro publicly mentioned as a minimum sum last year. Reports say Bayern Munich and Manchester City dropped out of the race partly due to the high fee for the 22-year-old. To bridge the gap of around €20 million, Kicker said more talks will take place, with a player possibly being included in the deal. Reports say Leverkusen are interested in Liverpool's Harvey Elliott or defender Jarell Quansah. Wirtz's contract with the 2024 Bundesliga champions and this season's runners-up lasts until June 2027 and does not include a release clause.

Zinédine Zidane turns down Al-Hilal approach
It is hardly a secret that Zinédine Zidane is waiting for the France job. He hasn't got much longer to wait, either. Didier Deschamps has already announced that he will leave his post with Les Bleus after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Zidane is the overwhelming favourite to succeed him in the role. The former Real Madrid manager has been out of work since leaving Los Blancos in 2021, and there is no question of taking a role before the France job becomes vacant, it seems. As per a report from L'Équipe, he has turned down a significant approach from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in recent days. Advertisement The offer from the Gulf State was valued at €100m for a contract of just one year. It would have allowed him to depart and take the job with France the following summer. However, after a day of reflection, Zidane opted to refuse the offer. It is Simone Inzaghi who is instead expected to take the job at Al-Hilal. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Julian Nagelsmann reveals TRUTH about Florian Wirtz advice
The speculation about Florian Wirtz at the moment is rife. Anything reported with his name mentioned in it attracts an insane amount of attention. He's the name on everyone's lips right now. The latest on his impending move to Liverpool is that a bid of £109m was tabled for him and negotiations are still taking place with Leverkusen, although personal terms have been agreed. Advertisement Heading into this summer, we have a particularly interesting transfer period. Almost every club's season is now over, but two weeks of international fixtures are now set to take place, the transfer window opened on Sunday June 1 for 10 days, although it will close again for six days before an extended six-week window then takes place from June 17 to September 1. This is all because of the newly formatted FIFA Club World Cup, which has caused a significant shake-up this time around. While neither Liverpool nor Leverkusen will be competing this year, a deal for Wirtz before the early June 10 deadline seems to be the priority. © IMAGO What Naglesmann actually said about Wirtz Due to the incredibly nature of this summer, we are at a stage where we can receive speculation about Wirtz from his national team manager as the player will be with the German squad this week. Advertisement Last week, Julian Naglesmann spoke to Sky Sport Germany and addressed the Liverpool interest in Wirtz, and it's fair to suggest that his perspective was twisted a little in the Reds' favour. He said: "He [Wirtz] texted me. We exchanged a few messaged. I tried to give him tips to the best of my knowledge and belief. I told him I can't make the decision for him because my opinion is not necessarily the right one. "The final decision is his. I didn't rule out any club, I just tried to explain thins to him and give him tips. I'm excited to find out about his decision. We always hear that things are done. It was also said with Bayern before that it was done. Let's wait." "In the end, every player has to decide for himself. It's not official, but if it's Liverpool, then it'd be a very good step because he can play in his position, a great environment, great club. The most important thing is that he players and continues to develop. If he feels that he would be better off at Liverpool, then he has to do it." Of course, Naglesmann would have done himself a significant favour by keeping his mouth slightly more tight-lipped, and remaining that bit more neutral, but as it would seem, Liverpool are on top.
