RBI deputy governor praises Jharkhand for re-KYC performance
2
Ranchi: The deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), M Rajeshwar Rao, on Friday praised the performance of Jharkhand banks in the re-KYC drive, which is underway all over the country since July 1.
Rao also said the state-level bankers' committee (SLBC) should ensure active participation of banks in the special camps held in this regard, inform villagers about them in advance and take the help of the administration and the gram panchayats for mass participation.
While addressing villagers in a special camp held for re-KYC and financial inclusion at the Ormanjhi Panchayat Bhavan, Rao said senior bank officials should also personally participate and supervise the drive.
"Re-KYC programme has been simplified, and the involvement of the banking correspondents has been allowed to speed up the process. The campaign is a crucial step towards inclusive service delivery. We are committed to ensuring that no customer is left behind," he said.
At the national level, the number of pending re-KYC is seven crore, while 3.63 crore would be added in a year, so that the total target would be 10.63 crore, Rao informed.
"These camps are held for connecting with people and ensuring that everyone is linked to the financial system so that they can avail themselves of the system's benefits. One should realise that keeping bank accounts updated helps in providing uninterrupted banking services. The villagers should take part in the camps in maximum numbers so that financial inclusion can be promoted in the real sense," he said. Speaking to media persons at the venue, the RBI officer also said the re-KYC target in Jharkhand is 1.14 crore.
Regional director of RBI, Ranchi, Prem Ranjan Prasad Singh, said special efforts were being made by the central bank in Ranchi since October 2024 last year, under which re-KYC has been completed in more than 12 lakh accounts, and the performance of Jharkhand in this regard was remarkable.

SGB 2019-20 Series-IX: RBI Sets Redemption Price, 147% Return For Investors
Last Updated: SGB Redemption: These government-backed bonds have an eight-year maturity but permit early redemption only after the fifth year from the issue date. SGB Scheme Return: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that investors in Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGB) 2019-20 Series-IX and 2020-21 Series-V can opt for premature redemption on August 11, 2025, at Rs 10,070 per unit. As per the RBI's August 8 press release, the price is calculated using the simple average of closing gold prices (999 purity) for the three business days preceding redemption—August 6, 7, and 8—based on rates published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association Ltd (IBJA). These government-backed bonds have an eight-year maturity but permit early redemption only after the fifth year from the issue date, and only on interest payout dates. SGB Scheme Return For those who bought the 2019-20 Series-IX in September 2019 at Rs 4,070 per gram, the upcoming redemption will deliver an absolute gain of Rs 6,000 per unit—about 147%—excluding the 2.5% annual interest. Investors in the 2020-21 Series-V, issued in August 2020 at Rs 5,334 per gram, will earn Rs 4,736 per unit, or 89% absolute returns, excluding interest. Apart from capital gains, these bonds pay 2.5% fixed interest per year, credited twice annually to investors' bank accounts. The final interest is paid with the principal at maturity. tags : SGB view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 10, 2025, 12:52 IST News business » savings-and-investments SGB 2019-20 Series-IX: RBI Sets Redemption Price, 147% Return For Investors Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
