BCB Unveils Key Appointments: Marshall, Wood, Hemming Join Ranks
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made three notable appointments following its meeting in Dhaka on Saturday. According to ESPNcricinfo, Alex Marshall, Julian Wood, and Tony Hemming have joined in different capacities. Julian Wood, a power-hitting specialist previously with Sri Lanka Cricket, will serve as a specialist batting coach for three months.
Alex Marshall, formerly the ICC's anti-corruption unit general manager until last September, has been appointed as a consultant for BCB's anti-corruption department for a year. BCB media committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman stated they expect Marshall to 'enhance" the unit's operations.
Rahman also confirmed the ICC's integrity unit will oversee anti-corruption measures during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). This decision follows ongoing investigations into alleged corruption in the 2024-25 BPL and Dhaka Premier League seasons. Tony Hemming, who recently resigned as the PCB's head curator, has also returned to the BCB.
Hemming had previously worked as the board's curator from July 2023 to July 2024. His return raises questions about the future of Gamini Silva, the curator at Shere Bangla National Stadium. Rahman clarified that Gamini has been given a one-year extension.
Tony Hemming has been appointed head of turf management for two years, overseeing all international venues and curators. He will also train Bangladeshi curators. Rahman noted that board directors were keen to bring Hemming back, describing him as one of the best curators globally.
He added that Hemming's previous positive experience with the BCB likely influenced his return. Gamini has a 12-month extension, and time will reveal if he continues.
In another significant move, the BCB introduced Mymensingh as a new first-class side, replacing Dhaka Metropolis, which was added in 2011 to balance the number of participants in the first-class competition. Rahman announced that Mymensingh, one of the country's newest divisions, will compete in the NCL first-class tournament from the coming season, replacing Dhaka Metropolis.
While Mymensingh will participate in all divisional tournaments, they cannot be accommodated in the upcoming NCL T20s due to the pre-set schedule but will join the T20 tournament from the next edition.

Mohun Bagan Ultras champion Bengali issue with giant banner during match
1 2 Kolkata: Football fans continued to turn stadiums into spaces of protest, using giant tifos to voice political and social anguish. Mohun Bagan supporters displayed a banner during their Saturday match at Salt Lake stadium, protesting against insults to the Bengali language and people. The banner appeared two days after East Bengal fans made a similar gesture during the match against Namdhari FC. On Saturday, Mohun Bagan beat DHFC 5-1 to head into the Durand Cup quarter-finals. The green-and-maroon stands featured a giant tifo displaying lines from a Tagore song: "Bangalir pon, Bangalir asha, Bangalir kaj, Bangalir bhasha — Satya houk, Satya houk, Satya houk hey bhogoban (The honour of the Bengali, the hope of the Bengali, the work of the Bengali, the language of the Bengali — let it be true, let it be true, let it be true, oh God)." Below it, another banner read: "Deshta karor baaper noy, noyko jaater khela, ei Bangali-i ghuchiechhilo paradhinatar jwala (This country doesn't belong to anyone's father, nor is it a game of caste, it was the Bengalis who brought independence). " The banners condemned the recent labelling of Bengali-speaking people as "Bangladeshi", a sentiment many in the state say undermines the cultural contributions and sacrifices of Bengalis in the freedom struggle and Indian nation-building. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Knee Pain Knee pain | search ads Find Now Undo In 1905, Bengalis used this song as a weapon in the anti-partition movement during Banga Bhanga protests. Back then, Bengal united in the Ra-khibandhan festival led by Tagore. This year's protest also coincided with Rakhi. The tifo by Mariners Dé Xtreme - Ultras of Mohun Bagan featured portraits of Bengali icons, like Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, and Khudiram Bose. "This tifo is to send a message across India — the issue of Bangladeshi immigrants must be resolved through the joint efforts of central and state govts. But none should question our existence or our language," an admin member of the fan club said. A smaller tifo read: "Jana Gana Mana Vande Mataram. Bangla Bhasha Maayer Soman (Jana Gana Mana, Vande Mataram, Bangla bhasha is equal to mother)" while another said: "Shahider Rokto Kobir Nobel, Bharater Mukute Bangla Jewel (The blood of martyrs, the poet's Nobel, Bengali is a jewel in India's crown)."
