Tottenham's injury woes have returned before the Premier League season even kicks off with England midfielder James Maddison set to miss most of the new campaign after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Maddison missed the end of Spurs' injury-riddled 2024-25 campaign under manager Ange Postecoglou with a knee injury, but returned last month to feature in pre-season under new boss Thomas Frank.
Maddison continued his comeback with a substitute appearance in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in South Korea on Sunday, but collapsed in pain with no one around him and subsequently left the pitch on a stretcher in the 86th minute.
Spurs' worst fears have now been confirmed with Maddison set to undergo surgery in the coming days on his ACL injury.

Manchester United seal monster $152m deal for Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko has touched down in the UK ahead of his medical with Manchester United. The Slovenia international is on the verge of completing a sensational transfer from RB Leipzig to the Red Devils. United have been battling Prem rivals Newcastle for the striker's signature and stole a march on the Magpies on Thursday by agreeing a £74million ($A152m) deal with Leipzig for the 22-year-old. The deal will see United pay an initial £66.5m and an additional £7.3m in add-ons. Following the agreement, Leipzig gave their star striker permission to travel to the UK to undergo a medical at United's Carrington training ground. And Sesko touched down at Manchester Airport this evening to move a step closer to completing a huge move. He was seen arriving on a private jet. The ace was then whisked away in a black Mercedes van, with Sesko keeping a low profile in the back seat of the vehicle. It's thought he'll undergo his medical on Friday, and could then be unveiled at Man Utd's pre-season friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday. The completion of the deal with bring an end to a long running saga over the striker's future. Sesko was on the radar of United's long-time league rivals Arsenal earlier this summer. But the Gunners ended their interest in the Slovenian to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. Newcastle moved for Sesko last week in a bid to replace wantaway Alexander Isak, who wants to join Prem champions Liverpool. Last season's Carabao Cup winners tabled a £71m bid for Sesko's services. But Sesko has snubbed a move to St James' Park in favour of a switch to Old Trafford. SunSport understands he preferred the prospect of playing at the Theatre of Dreams when both options became a possibility. Sesko joined Leipzig from the German outfit's sister club RB Salzburg in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £20m. He's flourished for the Bundesliga club since his move to the Red Bull Arena, scoring 27 goals and racking up 7 assists in 64 appearances. Twenty-one of those goals, including four in the Champions League, came last season.

How SuperCoach EPL Classic Works Step 1: Pick your squad (£100 million cap). Choose: 2 Goalkeepers 5 Defenders 5 Midfielders 3 Forwards Choose your Starting 11 and one of 9 formations (e.g. 4-4-2, 3-5-2). Step 4: How scoring works It's more than just goals and assists. Every stat counts. Points are awarded for goals, assists, key passes, tackles, blocks, saves, clean sheets, minutes played and more. Lose points for own goals, yellow/red cards, missed penalties and dispossessions. The full scoring breakdown is available in-game (Help > Help & Game Info Topics > Point Scoring).
