This year's Cannes film festival is giving geopolitics a starring role, most notably, the ongoing war in Ukraine. Three documentaries were screened on the day of the opening ceremony, as well as Sergei Loznitsa's latest film 'The Prosecutor' being part of the official selection. FRANCE 24's Jennifer Ben Brahim looks at how the world of cinema is tackling this three-year conflict.

'We continue to clear our sky from Russian bombers': Ukrainian PM Shmyhal
Europe 12:48 From the show In an interview with FRANCE 24, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal justified Sunday's daring drone strikes on four Russian airfields as a way "to clear our sky from Russian bombers" and protect civilians from "nightly missile and drone attacks on civilian infrastructure". He also urged the West to send long-range missiles "to cut Russian logistics near the Ukrainian border". Shmyhal said Ukraine was "absolutely ready" for a ceasefire – but ruled out any territorial concessions. Asked about NATO membership, the Ukrainian premier said the vast majority of the population was in favour but insisted: "We are ready to wait."
