Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 8 (ANI): The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has called upon the party's district secretaries for a meeting, which is scheduled to be held on August 13. The meeting will be chaired by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin around 10:30 AM at the party headquarters in Chennai. The meeting will mostly be about the membership drive of the DMK.This announcement comes after the Tamil Nadu government released the State Education Policy (SEP) amid opposition to the National Education Policy (NEP).Earlier today, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the SEP has been curated while keeping in mind the 'unique character" of the state and announced that the state will only follow a two-language policy. 'Through this education policy, we don't want students just to mug up, but think and get educated. Physical education will be taught along with studies. Importantly, I want to say firmly that we will follow two two-language policy and it is our firm policy," Stalin said while addressing the gathering at Anna Centenary Library Auditorium. The Chief Minister informed that smart classes will be introduced under the newly released SEP. 'We are going to make a change in education, our aim is to educate all. Nobody should be left out," Stalin said while emphasising the need to teach rational thought in education. 'We will never allow anyone to stop education. We will not allow pirooku (reactionary thinking) in our education. Our state education policy aims to create samathuva kalvi (equality) and will be a pagutharivu kalvi (one with a rational thought). This will serve as a platform to compete with international standards of education," Stalin asserted. (ANI)

CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin is expected to travel to the United Kingdom and Germany by the end of this month or the first week of September, during which meetings related to attracting more investments to the state are planned, in addition to meetings with the diaspora and other commitments, highly placed sources said. During the trip, the chief minister is also expected to deliver a lecture at the King's College London (KCL), sources said, adding that the details are yet to be finalised. It is to be noted that renowned academic Christophe Jaffrelot, who is the Avantha Chair and Professor of Indian Politics and Sociology at the King's India Institute in KCL, has written extensively on Indian politics, including the Dravidian parties, besides guiding research scholars in these areas of study. When contacted by TNIE, officials said the engagements of the CM during the trip cannot be confirmed at the moment since the programmes are still being finalised. They said that the trip is likely to last for a week or 10 days. This would be the fifth foreign visit of CM Stalin. With the elections just eight months away, this is likely to be his last foreign visit in the present government.

Ramadoss asserts he will form ‘victorious alliance' for 2026 Assembly poll

Urging party cadre not to heed 'anyone else's words', PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday said he would form a 'victorious alliance' for the 2026 Assembly election. Dr. Ramadoss was addressing the 8th Magalir Peruvizha Maanadu (women's conference), organised by the PMK and the Vanniyar Sangam at Poompuhar in Mayiladuthurai district. 'I will form a victorious alliance in 2026 no matter who says what. You don't even have to hear it — only what I tell will happen,' Dr. Ramadoss told the gathering. He appreciated the support extended by the police, government departments, and the Tourism Department, calling it 'astonishing'. Call for caste census Urging Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to conduct a caste-based survey, Dr. Ramadoss said it would secure the Chief Minister's place in 'social history'. 'Late Chief Minister Karunanidhi was my good friend. He gave 20% reservation for MBCs. As his son, you [Mr. Stalin] should not hesitate,' he said. Warning of State-wide agitations, he asked Mr. Stalin not to push the PMK to such as position. He also called for liquor prohibition and the elimination of ganja, offering assistance in framing measures to curb the sale and use of alcohol and drugs. 'Send me 10 officials, and I will give them my inputs to curtail such activities. You can implement them. For this, I don't want to come to power. You can easily do this yourself,' he said. At the conference, 14 resolutions were adopted. These included demands for a total prohibition, equal opportunities regardless of gender, prevention of sexual harassment of women at public spaces, and to put an end to the mentally distressing practice of physically searching female candidates appearing for the NEET. PMK general secretary Murali Sankar, MLAs G.K. Mani and Arul, Dr. Ramadoss's wife Saraswathi, daughter Srigandhi Parasuraman, and grandson Mukunthan were present. Along the roads leading to the venue, a large number of posters carried pictures of Dr. Ramadoss and PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss together. Over 1,200 police personnel were deployed as security for the event, and traffic congestion led to vehicles from Karuvi village being stopped by the police.

VCK will determine Tamil Nadu's future in 2026, says Thol Thirumavalavan

Dharmapuri: VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday night said 2026 would be the year of his party and that it would determine the future of TN. He said the VCK had endured all challenges in TN politics. "Today, we have four MLAs and two MPs, gaining political recognition." Pointing out that he celebrates his birthday every year with a specific theme, Thirumavalavan said, "This year, we are celebrating it under the theme of 'let's protect secularism'. I believe we have instilled fear in our adversaries through our principles. The call for protecting secularism should resonate everywhere." Explaining the reason for aligning with the DMK, Thirumavalavan said, "The weapon crafted by the revolutionary Ambedkar is secularism. Those opposing this are the BJP, RSS, Hindu Munnani and the AIADMK. Our alliance with the DMK, Congress and the Left is meant to uphold secularism and defend the Constitution. The DMK-led alliance is recognized as a secular alliance. When Kalaignar established it, Stalin had named it the Secular Progressive Alliance.
