Former Delaware County deputy charged with drug trafficking
JAY, Okla. – A former Delaware County K9 officer has been arrested on charges of trafficking drugs and stashing drugs, weapons, and credit cards from suspects after they were in custody.
Michael Bernheisel, 47, of Disney, is charged in Delaware County District Court with willful neglect by a state officer, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in trafficking, and embezzlement.
The former officer is accused of retaining some evidence for several cases up to 10 months, compromising the chain of custody.
Sheriff Ray Thomas noticed irregularities in Bernheisel's investigation reports, insubordination, and failure to complete assignments, and offered him another position within the sheriff's department. In December, the former deputy refused to be reassigned and resigned from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation shows Bernheisel worked at the sheriff's department between November 1, 2023, and December 9.
During a search of his department-issued vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Ram Pickup K9 Unit, investigators found '333 items,' including 'narcotic paraphernalia, a Springfield XD Semi-Automatic weapon, a Taurus G2C 9mm, Semi-Automatic weapon, one of which was reported stolen by the Joplin Police Department.
Other items included ammunition, cocaine, cannabis, cannabis derivatives, and over 20 grams of Methamphetamine, according to the 18-page probable cause affidavit.
Investigators also found a Lipton canister containing cannabis in the vehicle's storage compartment and baggies containing drugs under the driver's seat, as well as driver's licenses and credit cards, court records show.
Investigators also found evidence bags containing drugs, including one bag that contained over 32 grams of a 'white crystal-like substance,' a broken glass pipe, and a county-owned tablet not released to Bernheisel, court records show.
Bernheisel also allegedly turned over a set of BMW keys, including 12 on a lanyard, to the sheriff's department.
According to online records, he is free on $30,000 bail and ordered to return to court on April 21 with an attorney.

Jun. 2—On Sunday, police arrested an Eva man who was out on bail for drug possession and charged him with dangerous drug trafficking after fentanyl and methamphetamine were found in his vehicle, according to the Priceville Police Department. Christopher Stephen Shadix, 56, was being held without bail in the Morgan County Jail and was also charged with second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. At about 11:30 p.m., police said officers initiated a traffic stop at Mountain Valley Road and Point Mallard Parkway. Police then began a narcotics field investigation and used their K9 to search Shadix's vehicle. "The ensuing search revealed a mixture of fentanyl and methamphetamine, marijuana, and various drug paraphernalia, including digital scales, within the vehicle," police said. On August 26, 2023, Shadix was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute after he was found with 26 grams of a controlled substance after a traffic stop in Somerville, according to an affidavit signed by a Priceville police officer. Man arrested for running through Green River on meth with machete, police say
GREEN RIVER, Utah (ABC4) — A man was arrested on Friday for running through a Green River neighborhood with a machete, according to the Emery County Sheriff's Office. The man reportedly told police he was also under the influence of methamphetamine. Louis Sayna, 34, was arrested in Emery County for possession of a controlled substance (class A misdemeanor), use or possession of drug paraphernalia (class B misdemeanor), and prohibited dangerous weapon conduct (third-degree felony). On the evening of May 30, police responded to a residence in Green River where 'a male had ran to a house saying someone was chasing him,' a statement of probable cause reads. As an officer was en route to the scene, police received another call stating that a resident had a man knock on their door while carrying a large machete. Police arrived and found Sayna, who said that he had been riding the bus when some people 'were trying to force him to do things and were chasing him.' Sayna told police he ran from the bus stop and dropped the machete on the grass while approaching a home where kids were outside playing. The officer then found the machete in the grass and ran a records check on Sayna. Police learned that Sayna had a 'NCIC full extradition warrant' out of the state of Washington. The officer placed Sayna under arrest and found a glass pipe consistent with methamphetamine use in his sock. Police also found methamphetamine folded in a paper inside a small bag Sayna was wearing on his chest. Sayna told the officer he had used methamphetamine within the last hour before police arrived. Police said Sayna has an extensive criminal history. No further information is available at this time. Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
