South Africa captain ends mammoth innings early to respect Brian Lara's world record
Mulder hammered an unbeaten 367 –- a South African record and the fifth highest score in Test cricket –- before declaring at lunch on the second day of the second Test.
South Africa's total of 626 for five proved way beyond Zimbabwe's reach. They were bowled out for 170 and were 51 for one in their second innings after being forced to follow on.

'Brian Lara is a legend. He got 401 or whatever it was [it was 400] against England. For someone of that stature to keep the record is pretty special,' Mulder said at the close.
'I think if I get the chance again I would do the same again.'
Mulder spoke to South African coach Shukri Conrad who agreed with his decision.
'He said to me as well, let the legend keep the record. I never know what my fate will be but letting Brian Lara keep the record is the way it should be.'

EARLY ON SATURDAY, as temperatures soared outside, a sprawling shopping centre in Dubai echoed to the squeak of sneakers as hundreds of people joined 'Mallathon' – an indoor, air-conditioned race. The government-backed initiative aims to encourage exercise during August, often the United Arab Emirates' hottest month, and make use of Dubai's giant malls which are otherwise empty at that time. Running outside during summer in the Gulf, one of the world's hottest regions where temperatures sometimes top 50C, is unpleasant and even unsafe for many. 'If you run outside, it's not healthy at all because temperatures are around 40C to 50C,' said one runner who gave his name as Rai, his platinum-blond hair pulled back with a headband. Participants wearing 'Dubai Mallathon' T-shirts and sports gear ran and walked past closed stores along vacant, marbled halls that were set to be teeming with shoppers hours later. On weekends, runners can enter organised 10km, 5km or 2.5km races at designated malls, complete with podium presentations and prizes. During Saturday's race at the City Centre Mirdif mall, two robots buzzed around the participants, who paused to take selfies with them. Others waited in line to use electric bikes that powered blenders to make healthy smoothies. Mallathon is backed by Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 42, whose public profile projects him as an exemplar of active living. It is one of a number of attempts to steer Dubai's car-loving, mall-rat population towards exercise, including the 30×30 challenge, where residents are encouraged to exercise 30 minutes a day for a month. Obesity rates in the energy-rich Gulf country regularly top global charts. A study published by The Lancet in March predicted a staggering 94 percent of UAE males would be overweight or obese by 2050 — the highest in the world. Partly to blame is the furnace-like heat that ravages the region for several months a year, and is steadily growing more intense. Sainz is perhaps best known today as the father of Formula 1 star Carlos Sainz Jr, who currently drives for the Williams F1 team - having also represented the likes of McLaren and Ferrari. Iconic Auctioneers, the auction house handling the sale of this 1990s machine, will put the Escort WRC under the hammer as part of the upcoming Silverstone Festival's 'Competition Cars' section. According to their listing, the car underwent a full engine rebuild in 2020 using correct-specification parts and has had minimal mileage since. Brilliantly, it retains its original 1997 season livery - the orange and white of gas and oil company Repsol - preserving its authentic rally heritage. Even out of rally spec, the Ford Escort of the 1990s has become hugely sought after. Indeed, back in June, a 32-year-old Escort sold for a massive £105,750 - over five times its original price. The red 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth only had one owner who had done just 12,530 miles in it and was described as in exceptional 'time warp' condition throughout, as reported by Luxury Auto News. Ahead of the sale, the listing said: "Motorsport devotee John Phillips acquired the Escort as an early retirement present to himself and it was undoubtedly his 'pride and joy'. "It lived in its own garage from the day he bought it, never came out on wet days and was diligently maintained as and when required until his untimely passing in 2009 from which point the Escort remained interred in the same garage until recently removed. "The history file is comprehensive and includes the original grey leather document wallet, the full complement of books and manuals. "Its original tax disc holder, documentation relating to the 'Options' purchase scheme and the dealer handover sheet, plus of course various invoices, MoT Certificates and later tax discs. "In readiness for sale, the cambelt and tensioner has been renewed and an oil and filter change carried out. "However with minimal use over the last 15 or so years, we recommend that minor recommissioning may be required to ensure that everything is exactly as it should be.
