Parties call for suspension of Bitou municipal manager amid corruption claims
The ANC, Plett Democratic Congress (PDC) and the PA laid the criminal complaint against him at the Plettenberg Bay police station.
They accused Memani of 'defiance of a high court order and alleged misuse of public funds for personal and political gain'.
In a joint statement, the parties claimed to have evidence that a municipal official had paid R800,000 to the municipality on Memani's behalf.
ANC councillor Sandiso Gcabayi accused Memani of creating a high-profile post for Allen Paulse without following recruitment procedures.
'In December 2024, Memani submitted a new organigram to the Bitou municipality for council approval. This new organigram included the new position for performance management, monitoring and evaluation. This position was [allegedly] specifically created for Allen Paulse,' Gcabayi said.

With that transaction, Mphambaniso effectively became a Leruma United player — and thus should have been cleared anew to feature for Gallants. Instead, Gallants simply carried on with him in their squad, setting the stage for a dispute that could've derailed the entire league kickoff. PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed on Thursday that Gallants had pleaded guilty to misconduct, acknowledging their failure to follow proper procedure in registering Mphambaniso. 'The PSL finalised a disciplinary matter, in which I had proferred charges of misconduct against Marumo Gallants FC and its player Monde Mphambaniso,' said Majavu. Mashatile is in hot water over undecleared diamond gift
JOHANNESBURG - The Parliaments Joint Committee on Ethics has taken aim at Deputy President Paul Mashatile. This as the committee has recommended that Deputy President Paul Mashatile be fined R10,000 for failing to disclose a diamond that was gifted to his wife by businessman Louis Liebenberg. Mashatile claimed that he was waiting for an appraisal before declaring it and has since handed it over to the National Prosecuting Authority.

Limpopo man sentenced to life in prison more than decade after raping 12-year-old girl
A Limpopo man has been sentenced to life in prison more than a decade after raping a 12-year-old girl in the Bolobedu area near Tzaneen. Nelson Letsoalo, 46, was convicted in the Tzaneen regional court on Thursday after an investigation by the family violence, child protection and sexual offences (FCS) unit. According to provincial police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba the incident happened in 2013 when the minor was visiting her grandmother in Khapamadi Section under Bolobedu policing area. 'The victim went to a shop that was next to the tavern and Letsoalo, who was known by the victim as a cleaner, called her to come inside the tavern,' said Ledwaba. 'The accused forced the victim to lay on the floor and she was raped. Afterwards, Letsoalo threatened the victim with death if she told anyone about it.' The child later disclosed the traumatic incident to her mother in January 2020, which led to an immediate report to local police. Letsoalo was arrested the next day on January 5 2020 at his home in Kgapane and the matter was immediately transferred to Tzaneen FCS. 'The accused made numerous court appearances until he was granted R1,000 bail,' Ledwaba said. Despite the time that had passed, Letsoalo was found guilty of rape of a minor and sentenced to life in prison. Provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Thembi Hadebe welcomed the court outcome.
