New AI chatbot keeps fact-checking president Donald Trump on Truth Social
Despite its integration into Trump's platform and a stated aim to provide 'direct, reliable answers', the AI has contradicted his statements on several core policies.
The AI tool has indicated that evidence does not support Trump's claim about the positive impact of his tariff policy on the stock market.
Truth Search AI also described Trump's assertions regarding the 2020 election as 'baseless' and stated that crime in Washington, D.C. is 'not totally out of control'.

Oil gains as US-China tariff pause extension boosts trade hopes
Aug 12 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Tuesday as the United States and China extended a pause on higher tariffs, easing concerns an escalation of their trade war would disrupt their economies and crimp fuel demand in the world's two largest oil consumers. Brent crude futures gained 26 cents, or 0.39%, to $66.89 a barrel by 0015 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 22 cents, or 0.34%, to $64.18. U.S. President Donald Trump extended a tariff truce with China by another 90 days, a White House official said on Monday, staving off triple-digit duties on Chinese goods as U.S. retailers prepared for the critical end-of-year holiday season. This raised hopes that an agreement could be attained between the world's two largest economies, and could help sidestep a virtual trade embargo between them. Tariffs risk slowing down economic growth, which could sap global fuel demand and drag oil prices lower. Investors are also looking ahead to a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. The meeting is set amid heightened U.S. pressure on Russia, with the threat of harsher penalties on Russian oil buyers such as China and India if no peace deal is reached that could upset oil trade flows. "Any peace deal between Russia and Ukraine would end the risk of disruption to Russian oil that has been hovering over the market," ANZ senior commodity strategist Daniel Hynes wrote in a note. Trump set a deadline of last Friday for Russia to agree to peace in Ukraine or have its oil buyers face secondary sanctions, while pressing India to reduce purchases of Russian oil. Washington has also been pressing Beijing to stop buying Russian oil, with Trump threatening to impose secondary tariffs on China. The risk of those sanctions being enacted has receded ahead of the August 15 Trump-Putin meeting. Also on the radar is U.S. inflation data later in the day, that could hint at the Federal Reserve's interest rate path. Any sign that the central bank may cut rates soon would support crude prices.

Musk's Grok calls Trump the ‘most notorious' criminal in DC when asked about violent crime in the city
Elon Musk's anti-woke AI chatbot Grok has declared President Donald Trump "the most notorious criminal" in Washington D.C. in a series of posts on Musk's social network X. Responding to questions from users on Sunday and Monday about crime in the U.S. capital, Grok repeatedly claimed that Trump's 34 felony convictions in New York for falsifying business records made him the city's most infamous perp. Trump on Monday announced plans to federalize D.C.'s police department and deploy National Guard soldiers to the city's streets, claiming in defiance of the evidence, that crime there is "out of control". Grok's statements probably do not reflect any underlying 'opinion' held by Grok, and may or may not be the result of any deep analysis about crime in D.C. Though recent updates have added "reasoning" abilities, chatbots such as Grok still largely work by generating plausible-sounding responses to specific prompts, based on statistical patterns in human speech. There is often little consistency between their answers to different users and they sometimes invent 'facts' out of whole cloth. But Grok's claims highlight Elon Musk's ongoing struggle to build a reliably right-wing chatbot that mirrors his conspiracy-tinged view of reality. "Grok does need to be more based, and will be," Musk said on Sunday evening. 'Based' is an online slang term which can mean"unconcerned with what others think". Last month Grok caused controversy by repeatedly praising Adolf Hitler, calling for a new Holocaust, and at one point declaring itself "MechaHitler". Its parent company xAI blamed new code instructions that had made it too responsive to users' preferences and past posts. On Sunday Grok was briefly suspended by X, later telling different users that its own statements about Trump or about Gaza were to blame. But Musk said: "It was just a dumb error. Grok doesn't actually know why it was suspended." In other posts, Grok denied its previous words about Trump and at one point chose Hunter Biden instead as D.C.'s most notorious criminal.

UFC announces deal with Paramount
The UFC has announced a new broadcast partnership with Paramount+, set to begin in 2026, concluding its current deal with ESPN. UFC president Dana White confirmed the news, stating that the new agreement will eliminate the pay-per-view model for US fans, making all content more accessible and affordable. Under the new seven-year deal, valued at an average of $1.1bn annually, CBS will also broadcast certain fights. From 2026, the schedule will include 13 numbered events and 30 Fight Night events annually. This announcement does not impact UK viewers, as TNT Sports will continue to be the UFC's broadcaster in the United Kingdom.
