KUALA LUMPUR - The High Court here was told today that police found a Palestinian man with his hands and feet bound with cable ties during a raid on a chalet room in Hulu Langat nearly three years ago.
ASP Mohamad Jazlan Sharif, 42, who is now with the Criminal Investigation Division (Operations and Intelligence) at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD), said he and a team from the Criminal Investigation Division (D9) of the Dang Wangi and Kuala Lumpur police went to the scene on Sept 29, 2022.
"During the raid at Room 112, two men (Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis and Mohamad Sufian Saly) suddenly ran out of the room towards the roof, but my team and I managed to apprehend them after a brief struggle.
"We then found a man inside the room with his hands and feet bound with cable ties. We freed him and asked for his identification documents, which revealed that he was a Palestinian,' he said during examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Sabri Othman.
He said this while reading his witness statement at the trial of the kidnapping of a Palestinian man faced by eight accused, namely Tengku Arif Bongsu Tengku Hamid, 44, Mohamad Naziree Mustapha, 44, Faizull Hardey Mohd Isa, 45, Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Rahis, 30, Mohd Zaidi Mohd Zain, 59, Nidarahayu Zainal, 39, Raibafie Amdan, 44, and Edy Ko'im Said, 45.
The police officer, who is the third prosecution witness, said that the police also raided room 110, where they found three men - Tengku Arif Bongsu, Mohamad Naziree and Faizull Hardey - along with 36 black cable ties in a transparent plastic bag.
He said the raid followed the arrest of Mohamad Norakmal Hassan on the same day (Sept 22).
Norakmal and five others had been charged with a similar offence - abducting and unlawfully detaining a Palestinian man - and were sentenced to five years' jail each after they pleaded guilty to the charge. The five individuals charged with him are Mohd Azwan Jamaludin, 42; Dody Junaidi, 47; Mohamad Sufian Saly, 28; Tengku Hazarul Ismail Tengku Hamid, 54; and Muhammad Al Hatim Mohd Fauzi, 28.
The trial before Judge K. Muniandy continues on Aug 12.
According to the charge, the eight accused were jointly charged with wrongfully confining a 31-year-old victim to obtain a reward, specifically, secret information on creating and deactivating computer software used to hack mobile phones.
They are alleged to have committed the offence at Jalan Mayang here at 10.40pm on September 28, 2022, under Section 3 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code. If convicted, the offence carries a prison sentence of between 30 and 40 years and whipping.
Meanwhile, Tengku Arif Bongsu, Nidarahayu and her husband, Raibafie, are also facing 19 additional charges under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, involving more than RM250,000. - BERNAMA
