Tesla catches fire after driver crashes into ditch in Elk Grove
The crash forced an extended closure of Sheldon Road near Excelsior Road, Elk Grove police said.
The Cosumnes Fire Department released a photo of the scene showing crews working to put out the EV fire. No other vehicles were involved.
Though minor injuries were reported, Elk Grove police did not say how many people were in the Tesla.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The city's Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed a lawsuit calling for an emergency restraining order to block the move, accusing the Trump Administration of implementing a 'hostile takeover' of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) that would lead to 'imminent, irreparable harm'. 'In my nearly three decades in law enforcement, I have never seen a single government action that would cause a greater threat to law and order than this dangerous directive,' Smith wrote in the lawsuit Judge Ana Reyes said in a Friday hearing that, according to the Home Rule Act, the Department of Justice needed to rewrite the section of the executive order that placed Cole in charge, and that he needed to go through the city's mayor. A new directive by Bondi following the lawsuit allowed for Chief Pamela Smith to remain in charge of the force, though the city will still be under the Administration's control, and orders will be sent through the city's Mayor Muriel Bowser. The Trump Administration will still essentially have control over the city, but Smith will maintain control of the day-to-day operations of the MPD. In Bondi's new directive, though, she also required MPD to comply with the Trump Administration's aggressive immigration tactics, rescinding two police practices that limited MPD's immigration enforcement—also known as 'sanctuary policies.' D.C's At-Large Councilmember Christina Henderson reacted on X that, 'Respectfully, the Attorney General does not have the authority to revoke laws.' Emergency services attend crash as car flipped on roof
Emergency services rushed to the scene of a crash this afternoon, Saturday, August 16, which left a car on its roof. The incident happened at around 3pm on Walshaw Road in Bury and a man was taken to hospital. Pictures from the scene show a black car on its roof with fire crews and ambulances surrounding it. One fire engine was dispatched from Bury Central, along with the Technical Response Unit (TRU) from nearby Ashton. It is believed that the road was closed off for some time. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: 'Just after 3pm this afternoon (Saturday, August 16), one fire engine from Bury Central, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton, were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Walshaw Road, Bury. 'Crews arrived quickly at the scene where one vehicle was on its roof. "Firefighters used specialist equipment to make the vehicle and area safe. "A man was taken to hospital by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around fifty minutes.' Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) have been contacted for more information.

The top 30 in the FedEx Cup advance to the Tour Championship, and Bhatia is right on the bubble, having entered this event in 29th. His hole-in-one came on an intimidating 227-yard, par 3 with an elevated tee and water to the right of the green. The pin was toward the front of the green with a bunker to the left. Bhatia shot a 5-over 75 in the first round Thursday, leaving him 13 strokes behind the leader. But he shot a third-round 66 on Saturday, holing out a sand wedge from 93 yards for an eagle on the par-4 seventh. When his 5-iron on No. 17 rolled into the hole, it moved him to even par for the tournament. The ace earned Bhatia the BMW iX M70 on display next to the 17th tee. It also means $125,000 will go from BMW to the Evans Scholars Foundation, which oversees a scholarship program for caddies. 'I don't really necessarily need a new car.
