Matthew Stafford is 'excited to be back' on Rams

Yahoo06-03-2025

Matthew Stafford is happy to be staying in Los Angeles.
After nearly two months of uncertainty about his future with the team, the star quarterback and the Rams last week agreed to a contract adjustment that will have the 16-year veteran under center for a fifth season.
'I'm excited to be back,' Stafford said Wednesday night.
Stafford was in Pasadena to attend Pasadena High School's football awards banquet, where he announced that he and his wife, Kelly, were donating new uniforms to the high school and a youth football program that suffered losses from the Eaton fire in Altadena.

'It's fun to be a little bit of a part of their team now,' Stafford told reporters. 'Just happy to be able to do those kinds of things, and it's fun to be around a bunch of young guys that love playing the game and love playing together.'
Stafford, 37, declined to answer questions about the specifics of a two-month drama that reportedly had teams such as the New York Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders interested in trading for him.
Stafford has two years left on the extension he signed in 2022 after leading the Rams to victory in Super Bowl LVI at SoFi Stadium.
Last season, the Rams and Stafford were at an impasse for months before the team adjusted his contract hours after the rest of the team reported for the first day of training camp.
This year, the Rams and Stafford's agent did not let the issue linger. Stafford was due to earn a below-market $27 million in salary, but the situation was resolved last Friday. Terms of the adjustment have not yet been made public.

Earlier Wednesday, during a videoconference with reporters, Rams general manager Les Snead had characterized the resolution of Stafford's situation as 'a renewal of vows.'
Informed of Snead's description, Stafford chuckled.
'Les is a man of interesting words,' Stafford said. 'I love Les. Whatever he wants to say he can say.
'I just know I'm excited to be back.'

Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song

Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Music fans likely all rushed to their devices on Friday, as Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne released what was the sixth of "Tha Carter" series. His 19-track album titled "Tha Carter VI" features from notable artists such as BigXthaPlug, MGK, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz among many others. The New Orleans rapper who many felt was snubbed from performing at this past year's Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in the Big Easy has always been known for being a lyrical genius. While he's a New Orleans native and a well-known Green Bay Packers fan, Wheezy shouted-out Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay in one of his new songs, "Welcome to Tha Carter." Shortly after name-dropping former NBA star Metta Sandiford-Artest formerly known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, Wayne threw in McVay's name while alluding to one of his (Wayne's) personal favorite hobbies. "Smokin' that bomb L.A. like I'm McVay," said Wayne. Aside from being a music icon, Wayne is a huge sports junkie. He has made appearances on ESPN's "First Take," Fox's "Undisputed," and even won an episode of the iconic ESPN show "Around the Horn." As for McVay and the Rams, they came up a couple of plays short of playing in the Super Bowl this past season, and are hoping that with a new addition like All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, they can rectify their shortcomings in 2025. While McVay is likely appreciative of the bar from Wayne, he is also presumably focused on the team's upcoming minicamp in Maui. The Rams open up preseason play on August 9 against the Dallas story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.

Aaron Donald and Jared Verse post a preview of their workout together

Aaron Donald and Jared Verse post a preview of their workout together Aaron Donald and Jared Verse made good on their promises to work out together. Following days of the two joking back and forth about how hard it is to work out, the two actually did it. Donald posted a video and photo of the two on his Instagram with the caption, "Ask and you shall receive. Workout video coming soon." Current and former Rams players sounded off in the comments, too. Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner wrote that he's "been waiting all day for this," while receiver Tutu Atwell tagged Verse with and wrote that the young edge rusher "look tired my boy." Even ex-Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who played with Donald, commented a bunch of laughing emojis, "😂😂😂😂😂." While it's unclear who won the "bet," Verse later posted on X that he "tried to test a legend ... And he responded with a workout from hell. Learned my lesson. Respect OG." He also posted on his Instagram story that, "Rule 1: Don't call out AD." Stay tuned for the full video.

Rams braintrust of Les Snead and Sean McVay named among best in NFL

Rams braintrust of Les Snead and Sean McVay named among best in NFL Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay have shepherded some of the best seasons in franchise history since they joined forces in 2017. The duo has made the playoffs together in all but two seasons over the past eight seasons with an 80-52 record, including making the Super Bowl twice and winning it once. That success hasn't gone unnoticed. NBC Sports' Patrick Daugherty ranked the Snead-McVay pairing as the third-best unit in the NFL. The list didn't always include coaches, though, but McVay clearly plays a role in the team's decision-making. Only Philadelphia Eagles' GM Howie Roseman and the Kansas City Chiefs' Andy Reid and Brett Veach were higher on the list. Daugherty pointed out that the Rams' under Snead and McVay haven't been defined by the "Jared Goff" or "Matthew Stafford" years since both quarterbacks made the Super Bowl for the team. Additionally, the Rams have weathered the loss of Aaron Donald only to replace him with another Defensive Rookie of the Year in Jared Verse and a collection of defensive stars able to replicate aspects of Donald's game. "Quarterback issues, offensive line woes, assistants constantly departing for head-coaching jobs … McVay has weathered it all," Daugherty wrote. "McVay has made plenty of mistakes — see his history of trade and free agent additions at receiver — but he always admits them quickly. McVay doesn't get bogged down by the sunk cost fallacy or 'the way we've always done things.' He adapts. And wins. A lot." The relationship between Snead and McVay is one of the tightest in the NFL and it's a big reason why the team keeps winning despite roster turnover. Apart from one down season in 2022 in which Stafford and many others missed time with injury, this Rams franchise has been the model of consistency. They'll try to continue that success in 2025.
