Bengaluru: IIT grad's landlord returns only 40% of deposit, netizens say, ‘gone case'
A LinkedIn post by a startup founder detailing a frustrating house-renting experience in Bengaluru has resonated with many users. The IIT graduate Shravan Tickoo claimed that his landlord imposed unreasonable deductions, returning only 40% of his initial ₹ 1.5 lakh deposit.
Expressing his frustration, he said, 'Because Bengaluru landlords are becoming a menace. When you feel unwelcome in your own home, in your own city- it hurts.'
Shravan Tickoo explained that the landlord never communicated with him directly, citing language as a barrier—she spoke only Kannada and relayed messages through a building manager.
'There were always whispers about the owner troubling former tenants with similar issues. So, I braced myself. When I moved out, I kept things polite,' he wrote. 'But then came the shock: ₹ 55,000 for painting, over ₹ 25,000 for vague damages, and even ₹ 2,000 just for using the lift.'
I'm not saying all landlords are like this but when you hear your friends struggling with abrupt rent hikes, withheld deposits, and more, he added.
A user replied, "I guessed it when you stated your society name. Disheartening to see this repeat quite often. I would recommend both tenants and landlord to agree on the terms before occupancy be in painting charges or damage fee (only if landlord could produce GST invoice of spare parts purchase and transaction records of labour costs)."
Another said, 'All Landlords who want to mint money at the expense of a Common Man have a special place in hell. Hope they get Karma for their actions.'

100crore CBG plant to come up in Bilaspur to tackle urban solid waste
Raipur: In a significant step towards urban solid waste management in Chhattisgarh, a Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) plant will be established in Bilaspur, with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) investing approximately Rs 100 crore in the project. A tripartite concession agreement was signed at the Bilaspur collectorate. The plant, to be set up on 10 acres in Kachhar, will process 150 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste daily to produce 5 to 10 metric tonnes of biogas. This initiative aims to promote organic farming, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create around 30,000 annual jobs, and generate Rs 1 crore in GST revenue annually. An Integrated Energy Unit for biogas refilling and electric vehicle charging is also planned for Koni. On Jan 17, 2025, a tripartite MoU for establishing CBG plants was executed between CBDA, GAIL, and BPCL for Bilaspur and five other municipal corporations in the state. This was done in the presence of CM Sai and deputy CM Arun Sao. The municipal corporation has provided the land to BPCL at a concessional rate. An RDF plant is already established there by the municipal corporation. Officials from BPCL/Gas Authority of India Limited and CBDA conducted a preliminary survey for establishing the plant on this land. The organic fertiliser produced as a by-product from the plant will promote organic farmingm they added. The plant's establishment is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The full-capacity production and sale from the CBG plant will generate Rs 1 crore annually in GST revenue, officials added. Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) is produced through the anaerobic digestion process using waste materials such as agricultural residue, cattle dung, sugarcane press mud, municipal solid waste, and sewage treatment plant waste. After purification, it is compressed and called Compressed Bio Gas (CBG), which has a high methane content. Given the consumption of biogas in the country, CBG has the potential to replace CNG in automobile, industrial, and commercial uses in the coming years. The agreement was between BPCL, Bilaspur Municipal Corporation, and Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority (CBDA), in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Manoj Pingua. Resolve GST rate ambiguity on flavoured milk, levy 5%: dairy industry
Dairy industry in Telangana has urged the State government to help resolve ambiguity surrounding the Goods and Services Tax rate on flavoured milk by pushing for a formal GST Council notification for a uniform 5% levy. The State government recommending uniform GST classification for flavoured milk under the 5% GST slab will be in line with judicial rulings and industry practices as well as ensure clarity, consistency and fair taxation, the industry said after its representatives met Commissioner of Commercial Taxes K. Haritha here recently and submitted a representation. They informed the official that a majority of industry players had already adopted the 5% GST rate for flavoured milk, based on recent court rulings that classify flavoured milk under HSN 0402 as a dairy product, not as an aerated or beverage item. The delegation included K. Balakrishna Reddy, Secretary, Indian Dairy Association and Head of Operations, Dodla Dairy; J. Sambamurthy, COO, Heritage Foods; V. J. Michel Pitra, CFO, Lactalis India (Thirumala Dairy); P.P. Manoj, CFO, Creamline Dairy Products (Jersey); Azeem of Masqati Dairy; and CA Mohd. Irshad Ahmed, Chairman, GST and Customs Committee of trade and industry body FTCCI. Dairy sector is crucial for rural livelihoods and consumer health. Misclassification or higher taxation on value-added dairy products like flavoured milk can disrupt both the supply chain and affordability, the delegation said. Ms. Haritha assured the delegation that the matter would be examined and appropriately taken up with higher authorities. Separately, in a representation to the Secretary, Fitment Committee of the GST Council Secretariat in Delhi, the Telangana Chapter of Indian Dairy Association appealed to the Committee to retain the 5% GST on flavoured milk and not increase it to 12%.

NEET-2025: Vijayapura boy tops Karnataka
Nikhil Sonnad, a native of Vijayapura who studied in Expert PU College, Mangaluru, emerged as the topper from Karnataka after the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET(UG)-2025 result on Saturday. He got All India Rank (AIR) 17 and scored 670 marks (99.99%) out of 720 in the NEET. He had secured 98.3% in II PU exams in the Science stream this year and is aiming to join the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi. He also secured 8th rank in (Agriculture) in CET-2025. Speaking to The Hindu, Nikhil said, 'I have never followed a fixed schedule in studying. I have always been flexible. This year, the NEET was tough. The physics questions were very difficult. But I read and understood carefully without getting nervous and answered them. I did not expect to get AIR-17. Instead, I thought I would get a good rank. So, I am happy to be the State topper.' Being born to doctor parents, Nikhil expressed his desire to pursue a career in cancer research and become a medical entrepreneur after his postgraduate degree. This year, four students from Karnataka made it to top 50 ranks at the All India level. Ruchir Gupta, a student of Alpine Public School, Bengaluru, has secured AIR-22, Tejas Shailesh Ghotgalkar has got AIR-38, and Pranshu Jahagirdar of Allen Career Institute, Bengaluru, has got AIR-42. NEET was conducted in 13 languages, including Kannada, this year and 460 candidates registered to write in Kannada against last year's 1,065. This year, of the 22,09,318 candidates who appeared for the exam, 12,36,531 qualified from across the country. Of 11 transgenders, six got qualified. The test was conducted on May 4 at 5,468 different centres in 552 cities across the country, including 14 outside India.
