Some love stories are grand, others are unforgettable, and then there's this film that we are talking about, which didn't just tell a tale of love, it burned it into the memory of an entire generation.
The film, that released in an era which was filled with feel-good rom-coms, this film went the other way — raw, intense, and painful.
It introduced Bollywood to a kind of heartbreak where love isn't rewarded, but sacrificed. The hero loves with reckless abandon, fights against fate, and in the end? He's left with nothing but a broken soul. Raanjhanaa wasn't just a film; it was emotional devastation on screen. Raanjhanaa – Plot
Starring Dhanush in his Bollywood debut alongside Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol, the film revolved around Kundan and Zoya, childhood sweethearts torn apart by caste, time, and choices. While Zoya finds love in someone else during college, Kundan never moves on. What follows is a chain of irreversible events: a tragic twist, an unexpected death, and a climax that still leaves viewers haunted.
Directed by Anand L. Rai, the film's visuals were as poetic as its pain, set against the chaotic yet soulful backdrop of Banaras. The dialogues? People still quote them like scripture. The music? Timeless. A.R. Rahman's soundtrack pierced deeper than any love letter could. Raanjhanaa's earned twice its budget
Despite its heavy heart, Raanjhanaa was a box office success — made on a modest Rs 50 crore budget, it raked in over Rs 105 crore, proving that audiences weren't just ready for tragic love stories — they craved them.
With an IMDb rating of 7.6, Raanjhanaa still holds its charm over a decade later. Raanjhanaa still ruling on OTT
Today, even after years, Raanjhanaa finds new fans on OTT platforms like ZEE5 and Amazon Prime Video. It's the kind of film that doesn't age — because heartbreak never goes out of style.
So, if you're looking to revisit a 2 hours and 20 minutes love story that hits like a punch to the gut, Raanjhanaa is waiting — and it still hurts just as beautifully.

Kabir Khan defends Deepika Padukone's demands for Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit: ‘If Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar get 8-hour shifts, why not her?'

Kabir Khan has stepped into the ongoing industry debate sparked by Deepika Padukone 's alleged fallout with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga over her reported demands for the upcoming film Spirit starring Prabhas . While rumours suggested that Deepika asked for an eight-hour workday and a Rs 25 crore fee, Kabir has come out in strong support of the actress, citing fairness, precedent, and the well-being of film crews. In an interview with Movified, Kabir emphasized the importance of structured working hours in the entertainment industry. 'I work with 500 crew members who each have families and their own lives,' he said. 'Their well-being matters, not just for efficiency, but for their mental health.' Backing Deepika's request, the 83 director added, 'It's a fair point. Aamir Khan works on an 8-hour shift. Akshay Kumar too. So I don't see why Deepika should be denied the same.' Kabir further asserted that if a director expects longer work hours, they should offer a valid reason: 'It's that simple.' Kabir on why personal sacrifice isn't a must Rejecting the notion that productivity in cinema must come at the cost of personal sacrifice, Kabir pointed to his own filmmaking practices. 'I've never shot beyond a 12-hour day, never done overtime, and never worked on Sundays,' he said. Housefull 5 Week 1 Worldwide Box Office: Akshay Kumar led comedy-ensemble grosses an acceptable Rs 179 crore globally in 7 days

Housefull 5, the newest chapter in the popular comedy franchise, has just completed its first week at the box office. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, has collected Rs 179 crore gross worldwide in seven days. In India, it has earned Rs 113.25 crore net, translating to Rs 136 crore gross. Internationally, the movie has grossed USD 5 million, or Rs 43 crore gross, to its tally. While these numbers are decent, the film's trend raises concerns. Its massive budget and the need to hit Rs 275 crore gross worldwide for breakeven add pressure. The film opened well over the weekend. Fans of the franchise turned up in good numbers, though the weekend footfalls were slightly lower than the previous Housefull films. Internationally, Housefull 5 performed even better, drawing crowds in markets like the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Gulf countries. The star-studded cast, also including Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, and others, gave the movie a solid push. However, the weekdays are telling a different story. Monday and Tuesday saw a decent hold, but collections started to dip noticeably by Wednesday. The last two days of the week were particularly tough, with the film struggling to maintain momentum. This downward trend is a red flag. For a big-budget film like Housefull 5, a steady run is crucial. The movie needs to bounce back strongly in its second weekend to stay on track. Sustained collections over the next couple of weeks will decide its fate. The film's budget is also a major talking point. Housefull 5 is one of the most expensive comedies in Bollywood. Non-theatrical deals, including satellite, digital, and music rights, have provided some relief. Still, just breaking even won't be enough for a favorable verdict. The movie must gross around Rs 275 crore worldwide to just cover its costs. With Rs 179 crore in the bank after week one, it's halfway there. But the slowing trend could make the remaining journey tricky. There's no doubt that Housefull 5 has found initial traction that many films these days don't get. The franchise's brand value, combined with its comic appeal, has worked in its favor. Yet, mixed word-of-mouth might be impacting its weekday performance. For the film to emerge as a success, it needs a big jump in collections starting Friday. If it can replicate the 2nd weekend magic of the previous Housefull movies, and hold steady afterward, a respectable final total is possible. All eyes are now on the second weekend. Housefull 5 faces moderate competition from Hollywood titles but it has enough screens to make an impact. Can Housefull 5 come back strong in its second weekend? We shall know that very soon. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates on Housefull 5
