Lando Norris wins Hungarian Grand Prix in another McLaren 1-2
Lando Norris fended off teammate Oscar Piastri to win the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday and maintain McLaren's relentless march through the season.
Mercedes' George Russell took third as McLaren celebrated their 200th F1 win over half a century since their first and fourth consecutive 1-2 this year.
Norris, on a one-stop strategy, held off a charging Piastri on fresher tyres to take the chequered flag by less than one second.
Norris moved to within nine points of Piastri in the drivers' championship ahead of F1's mid-season break.
'I'm dead, it was tough!' said Norris.
'I wasn't planning the one-stop strategy, my voice has gone, but even more rewarding because of that.'
'I pushed as hard as I could, looking forward to a few weeks off,' said Piastri.
'Everyone's going to sleep well tonight, great way to go into the summer break. The drivers were awesome,' said McLaren CEO Zak Brown.
Polesitter Charles Leclerc was furious with his Ferrari team's strategy as he came in fourth leaving the Scuderia still waiting for their first win of the season.
Fernando Alonso, nursing a bad back, was right in the thick of things to finish fifth for Aston Martin, ahead of Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Lance Stroll in the other Aston, and Liam Lawson (Racing Bulls).
Max Verstappen, in his 200th drive for Red Bull, had to settle for ninth with Kimi Antonelli rounding out the top 10 as the man he replaced at Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton, could only manage 12th in the second Ferrari.

Colapinto unhurt after crashing in F1 tyre test
Argentinian racer Franco Colapinto crashed in Formula One tyre testing at the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit on Wednesday and was reported unhurt after being taken to the medical centre, his Alpine team said. Renault-owned Alpine, Ferrari, McLaren and Racing Bulls are taking part in the two-day Pirelli test at the Hungaroring that followed last weekend's grand prix, the last before the sport's August break. Alpine said Colapinto, who took over from reserve driver Paul Aron for the final day, had 'an incident' at turn 11, a right-handed curve that can be taken at 220km/h. 'Franco was assessed on site at the medical centre and is OK,' they added. The team gave no details about how the crash happened or damage to the car.

Cadillac will add value as 11th F1 team, says McLaren boss Brown
Cadillac's arrival in Formula One next year as an 11th team will bring added financial value with new partners and more fan engagement rather than diluting resources, according to McLaren's American CEO Zak Brown. The General Motors-backed team have taken staff from rival outfits, their European headquarters at Silverstone being close to other factories, and are competing for sponsorship. However, Brown, whose team are dominating this year's championship after winning the 2024 constructors' title, saw no reason to fear a dilution of resources. "I think on employees they are definitely going to take a lot more than they give, which is fine," he said at last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "My general view is if someone wants to work for a rival team then shame on me. "For sponsors, I think they'll bring more new to the table than take." Brown expected Cadillac to bring more competition eventually, though they faced a tough challenge as newcomers, and more fans to a series that has three US rounds and a growing audience in America. "Will we get a better US TV deal, more American presence? I think their sponsors and Cadillac will spend money in the sport and the teams get a percentage of that so I see them as a value add to the sport," he added. "I'm not worried about some of the short term-ness of they are going to take an employee here or there or poach a sponsor here or there. I think the contribution will be bigger than that." Cadillac secured approval of their bid in March after a 764-day entry process and initial opposition from Formula One and the other 10 teams wary of a potential reduction in the share of revenues. The team are also backed by TWG Global, whose CEO Mark Walter has an estimated net worth of $12.5bn (R223,340,000,000), according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The first new team since US-owned Haas debuted in 2016 said in July they were two thirds of the way towards a targeted headcount of 600 by next season and no longer the smallest outfit.

Image: Supplied There's a German electric SUV showdown looming, and it starts at the IAA Mobility Summit in early September when the new BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will be revealed to the world for the first time. Not only will the two battery-powered midsize SUVs be direct competitors when they hit the market, but both will usher in new design and engineering eras for their respective carmakers. The Mercedes GLC electric debuts a brand new design language for the firm's electric vehicles, with the softer lines of its current EQ models having faced criticism for their lack of imagination and identity. To whet our appetites, Mercedes released a teaser image this week, showing the new upright, and more traditional-looking, 'grille' that will feature on its electric GLC. Next Stay Close ✕ As EVs do not require a grille for cooling, the GLC's centrepiece is purely aesthetic and features a chrome frame surrounding a smoked-glass-effect lattice structure and integrated contour lighting. An illuminated version will also be offered, featuring 942 backlit dots and animation sequences. The battery-powered GLC with EQ Technology replaces the EQC SUV, with Mercedes moving to a more integrated naming convention for its models. While it shares a name with its combustion-engined GLC sibling, the electric model will feature a completely different platform, in the form of Merc's upcoming MB-EA dedicated electric vehicle architecture. Technical details are still under wraps, but CarExpert reports that the new electric GLC is likely to offer a WLTP driving range of more than 800km, while the most powerful version could produce over 500kW. BMW EV revolution loading Either way, the GLC is going to face some stiff competition from its Bavarian rival, with BMW stating that the new iX3 will be one of the most significant model introductions in the company's entire history. BMW says the iX3 50 xDrive flagship will boast a WLTP range of up to 800km, and thanks to a 400kW maximum charging capability, owners will be able to add around 350km of range in just 10 minutes at a fast-charging station. Furthermore, its Gen6 powertrain technology and BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack aim to raise the dynamic potential of electric powertrains to a new level. The iX3 also debuts the new BMW Panoramic iDrive cockpit interface, which displays all relevant driving information in the driver's ideal line of sight.
