Delhi police chief reviews security arrangements ahead of I-Day
Singh, who took over as the 25th Commissioner of Delhi Police a day ago, held a meeting with senior officers to assess the preparedness for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations in the city.
"The Commissioner emphasised the need for heightened vigilance, increased patrolling and enhanced surveillance measures in sensitive areas. Traffic management in and around the Red Fort was also discussed in the meeting," a senior police officer said, who requested anonymity.
Further, a crime review meeting with Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) of all 15 districts was also held to ensure foolproof law and order arrangements in the city.
Singh directed all DCPs to intensify night patrolling and maintain additional vigil across Delhi, especially in areas bordering neighbouring states. He instructed that barricading and random checking should be strengthened at all entry points to the city to prevent the movement of suspicious elements and illegal arms.
Singh directed that strict checking should be carried out at hotels, guest houses, bus terminals, railway stations, metro stations, malls and high-footfall markets.
Another officer said that he also stressed the importance of deploying plainclothes personnel in crowded areas and keeping a close watch on activities that could potentially disturb public peace or threaten security. Coordination with other security agencies and intelligence-sharing were also discussed as critical components of the preparedness plan.
The CP also reviewed the arrangements for the Independence Day function at the Red Fort and other venues where public gatherings are expected. Senior officers have been asked to personally supervise security drills and verify the deployment of Quick Reaction Teams, bomb disposal squads, and sniffer dog units.
"Each DCP has been tasked with ensuring the readiness of their respective jurisdictions and to make a robust security plan," said the officer.

Ex-film producer arrested for duping Delhi woman of over ₹12.85 lakh
A 25-year-old former Marathi film producer was apprehended from Maharashtra's Pune for allegedly duping a resident of Delhi of over ₹12.85 lakh through a fake cryptocurrency investment scheme, an official on Saturday said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), West, Vichitra Veer, said that a complaint was received on May 20 at the Cyber Police Station in which a Delhi resident alleged that he was defrauded of ₹12.85 lakh by a man posing as a crypto investment consultant. "The complainant was promised lucrative returns. He was contacted through social media and guided to invest money in what appeared to be a legitimate cryptocurrency trading platform. Trusting the process, the complainant deposited ₹12.85 lakh in multiple tranches," he added. The DCP said that access was denied when the complainant attempted to withdraw his investment. Police traced the flow of funds during investigation and found that the money had been dispersed across 29 different bank accounts, said the officer, adding that a breakthrough came when one of the accounts was found actively withdrawing funds via ATMs in Pune. A team from Delhi Police conducted a raid in Pune and apprehended Kale. Further investigation revealed that Kale, who had previously worked as a producer in the Marathi film industry, suffered significant financial setbacks and subsequently turned to cybercrime for quick money. "He created a web of fake bank accounts and used cryptocurrency as a front to collect funds. He would then siphon off the money by converting it through multiple channels to avoid detection," the DCP said. Kale reportedly exploited his background as a financial advisor to build credibility among his targets. He targeted people with promises of high returns on crypto investments, only to disappear once funds were transferred, police said. Kale had earlier produced a few Marathi films before shutting down operations due to losses, they said. Further investigation is underway to identify other victims and associates involved in the racket, said police suspecting that more people may have fallen prey to this scheme.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for claiming to have an "atom bomb of evidence of vote theft" against the Election Commission, and dared him to detonate the explosive. Addressing a function organised by a media house in the state capital, Singh also likened the upcoming assembly polls to a crossroad, "with one path (under NDA) leading to further progress and another (under the INDIA bloc) taking Bihar back to its old era of lawlessness and caste strife." "Rahul Gandhi says he is in possession of an atom bomb. If it is so, he should detonate it at once. He should just ensure that he is himself out of harm's way," said the former BJP president, tongue in cheek. Gandhi had on Friday claimed that his party has an "atom bomb" of evidence to prove "vote chori" by the Election Commission for the BJP, remarks that evoked a sharp response from the poll panel. The commission termed Gandhi's remarks as "baseless and wild allegations." Singh also said the nation remembers his past rhetoric. "He had threatened Parliament of an earthquake, but when he spoke, it turned out to be a damp squib." The Union minister said the Election Commission of India is an institution that enjoys a reputation for unquestionable integrity. "It is pulling out all the stops to ensure that the upcoming assembly polls in the state are held in a free and fair manner. It does not behove the Leader of the Opposition to make frivolous statements about a constitutional body," the BJP leader said. He reminded the Congress leader that "his own party has blood on its hands, having tried to murder democracy in 1975 with the imposition of Emergency". The senior BJP leader also showered encomiums on alliance partner Nitish Kumar for helping the state turn the corner during his 20 years' rule in Bihar. "Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Bihar is no longer seen as a basket case. Even an internationally reputed magazine like The Economist, which had once condemned the state as the armpit of India, is now taking note of its turnaround," said Singh. Petrol, diesel sale in unauthorised containers to attract prosecution under Petroleum and Explosives Act in Odisha
BHUBANESWAR: The state government on August 2 asked district collectors to strictly enforce the ban on sale, supply and storage of petroleum products, including petrol and diesel, in plastic bottles or unauthorised containers. It also warned that the violators will be prosecuted as per the provisions of law, including the Petroleum and Explosives Acts. The Government asked the petrol bunks to display the message prominently in both Odia and English. Issuing a directive to this effect, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, told collectors that unfair practice of selling and transporting petroleum products, both Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (MS and HSD) in unapproved containers, poses serious threats to public safety and the environment. Notably, these highly inflammable substances, petrol and diesel in particular, are being widely sold and transported in plastic bottles and unapproved containers in different parts of the state, which is a violation of the statutory provisions of multiple acts. "The government, under the Petroleum Act, 1934, Petroleum Rules, 2002, Explosives Act, 1884, Motor Spirit and High-Speed Diesel (Regulation of Supply, Distribution and Prevention of Malpractices) Order, 2005, Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and other allied legal frameworks, has decided to carry out strict enforcement against such practices in all districts", Singh said.
