Shaw House: West Berkshire Council wants help for mansion plan
A council is looking for advice from experts about how it could make more money from a Grade I listed Elizabethan mansion.Shaw House in Newbury is owned by West Berkshire Council and is used for weddings, conferences, events and performance rehearsals.The authority said it was also able to accommodate private bookings for "group ghost hunts and paranormal investigation nights".But it has advertised online for "preliminary market engagement" as it seeks more information over the potential "commercialisation" of the site.
An event will be held at Shaw House on 12 March "to inform internal discussions around commercialisation options".The building was used as King Charles I's headquarters during the English Civil War and in October 2023 its gates were wrecked after they were hit by a coach carrying wedding guests.Originally installed in 1908, they were restored after work to rebuild brick pillars and decorative stone tops last year. It was first listed in 1952 and work in its knot garden has taken place over recent months.

British wine tycoon found dead in his Spanish villa after car rally
Mystery is surrounding the death of a British multi-millionaire at a gated community for some of the wealthiest people in Spain. The rapper's latest name is said to have been used on legal documents related to businesses associated with him. The musician, 48, is reportedly referred to as Ye Ye on documents filed with the State of California by his chief financial officer, Hussain Lalani. It comes after he had previously become known as Ye, with it announced that he had legally changed his name to that in 2021. His apparent latest name hasn't been publicly announced by him, though. It's said to have emerged when his businesses filed a Statement of Information, which provides up-to-date information for an entity, such as addresses and directors. The US Sun, which has reportedly seen the documents in question, states that Ox Paha Inc now calls him 'Ye Ye' on them. It further claims that his clothing brand Yeezy Apparel, as well as his music businesses Yeezy Record Label LLC and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc, are also referring to him by that name. It adds that the business headquarters of Ox Paha Inc., Yeezy Record Label LLC and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. has changed. It was said to have been a church in Northridge, Los Angeles, that burnt down after being left vacant by him, but is now reportedly listed as the office building in the city of Los Angeles that he bought in 2023, reports the Mirror US. The news comes after he announced earlier this month that he would be making a new account on X to reflect his name Ye. He shared his plans in a post on June 1. He wrote in a message to his followers on the platform: "Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest Twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a Ye account and it is what it is." It came after Piers Morgan mentioned his handle on the platform du r ing an interview last month. The rapper had walked out of an interview on Uncensored. He left after Piers said that he had 32 million, rather than 33 million, followers on X. The host later issued a correction, but within minutes of the interview starting, he had left. Piers later suggested that it happened before he could ask about antisemitism and other topics. Ye - who in tweets weeks later said he was "done with antisemitism" and that he loves "all people," as well posting "God forgive me for the pain I've caused" - having been criticised for comments and other actions in recent years. Just last month, it was reported that he had released a song titled Heil Hitler (Hooligan Version). Host Piers told fellow guest Sneako after Ye left: "Tell him from me he's a snivelling, little coward, and he's an anti-semite and a Hitler worshipper. That's what I would have asked him if he'd had the b***s to sit there and take the questions." One fan later wrote on X: " Piers Morgan calling him ' Kanye West ' is exactly why Ye left the interview." Piers reacted to the suggestion by saying: "His X account name is @kanyewest …" The rapper has since shared plans to stop using the @kanyewest on the platform.

So the Jockey Club sold an 'option to purchase' to builders Redrow in September 2018, Sunracing can reveal, meaning they can buy the land for development during a set timeframe whenever they want for a pre-agreed price. The expiry date on the agreement is in 2028, though it can be extended a further two years if Redrow express interest in going ahead with the purchase of the 230-acre site, either in its entirety or part of it. The Jockey Club has not hidden its desire to sell off land at Kempton for housing to raise much needed funds, and in February 2020 they announced revised plans to develop on part of the site which would not involve demolishing the home of the King George. But those plans were also scuppered by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Jockey Club remains in a deep financial hole, with the last set of accounts published last summer showing they have around £54 million of debt. Spelthorne Council said eight years ago the site was unlikely to be considered for housing eight as it was deemed 'strongly performing' green belt land. But the new Labour government has relaxed planning laws to encourage house building, with the aim to build 1.5 million new homes before the next election. The Jockey Club dismissed recent speculation on social media that the racecourse was to be closed at the end of next year, but there is a desperate need for housing in Surrey and Redrow is still interested in developing the site, for all they have yet to trigger their option to buy the land. A Redrow spokesperson said: 'We have an agreement with the Jockey Club to promote Kempton Park for development, lasting until 2030. 'Since this agreement was made, we have been reviewing whether the site, or parts of it, could assist with the delivery of much needed new housing in Surrey.' The Jockey Club said: "Since 2018, Redrow have had the exclusive right to promote Kempton Park as a potential site for residential development, lasting until 2028. "Since the agreement came into effect it has been entirely normal procedure for there to be ongoing discussions to see if the site, or parts of it, could play a part in addressing the need for houses in the local area. "Given the recent changes in wider planning policy, it is no surprise that those discussions are continuing, but in real terms there has been no change in Kempton Park's status.'
