EFL game halted as air ambulance lands after fan falls ill before Newport County vs Notts County match
The League stopped due to one horrible incident. On Saturday, August 2 featured Newport County and Notts County in two football games. Originally set for 3 p.m. at Newport, Wales's Rodney Parade, the game was planned to begin.
Before kick-off, though, a supporter in the stands abruptly became quite sick. Assistance required two air ambulances to land directly on the ground. This emergency cleared the whole stadium and the game got under an hour later at 4 p.m. Each of the teams had this one as their first game of the fresh 2024–2025 season. Following the incident, fans were both surprised and worried for the afflicted individual.

delayed after fan falls ill on pitch
The incident happened less than an hour before the League Two match was set to begin at Rodney Parade in Newport.
Both Newport County and Notts County players were already at the ground when the emergency took place. Medical teams rushed to help after a fan in the stands became seriously ill.
Two air ambulances landed directly on the pitch, stopping all preparations for the game. As a safety step, everyone inside the stadium, including fans and media, was asked to leave the stands.
Newport County confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter). The club wrote:
'Due to a supporter being taken ill in the stands, an air ambulance has landed on the pitch.

Later, the club added:
'Kick-off for today's match has now been scheduled for 4 PM. Everyone at Newport County sends their best wishes to the individual concerned. We'd also like to thank all of the supporters for their patience.'
Notts County also shared their thoughts:
'We await a further update on the condition of the supporter, who remains in our thoughts.'
David Hughes and Martin Paterson manage first League Two games amid delay
For both teams, this game was notable as it was the first League Two match for their new coaches. In a competitive game, David Hughes took charge of Newport County for the first occasion. Having been named in May, Martin Paterson, ex-Burton chief and aide to Phil Neville at Inter Miami, took over Notts County for first time since his June appointment.
Finishing 22nd last year, Newport County narrowly escaped relegation; Notts County finished fifth but lost in the play-offs. Both teams are aiming for better results this year. The condition of the sick fan is still to be updated.

Ajit Agarkar, Suryakumar Yadav Asked About India-Pakistan Asia Cup Game. BCCI Takes Instant Action
BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar was stopped from answering a question about the match against Pakistan during the Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement press conference on Tuesday. The BCCI selector was addressing the media along with Indian cricket team skipper Suryakumar Yadav. However, the interaction took an unexpected turn when a journalist asked Agarkar about the India-Pakistan match. Before the ex-India pacer could answer, the BCCI representative at the venue intervened and signalled that he will not be answering the question. The moment caught the attention of a lot of fans. India will take on Pakistan in their second match of Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai on September 12. The two sides were placed in Group A along with Oman and United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill was appointed as the vice-captain, while pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was also included in India's 15-member T20 squad for the Asia Cup starting September 9 in the UAE. Gill's last T20 match was against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2024 and he has now replaced Axar Patel as the deputy of skipper Suryakumar Yadav. "Gill's form in England was something we expected but he exceeded it all," chief selector Ajit Agarkar said during the squad announcement press conference here. There were some lingering doubts on Bumrah's availability largely due to the proximity to the home Test series against the West Indies in October. But the selectors opted to pick and this will be Bumrah's first T20 tournament since last year's World Cup. Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav too has been drafted in, while Jitesh Sharma will be the back-up wicketkeeper batter. Yashasvi Jaiswal was among the five standby players chosen by the selectors. "It's unfortunate Jaiswal has had to miss out but he will have to wait," Agarkar said. India is placed in Group A of the Asia Cup alongside Pakistan, Oman, and UAE. India squad for Asia Cup: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Jitesh Sharma, Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh, Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy.

"Played For RCB, Did Nothing": Ambati Rayudu Breaks Long Silence On Kevin Pietersen's 'Joker' Jibe
Former India batter Ambati Rayudu became the victim of a bizarre attack on live TV after ex-England captain Kevin Pietersen called him a 'joker' during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Ahead of the final between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final, Rayudu and Pietersen had a bit of banter that saw the latter cross the line. Though Pietersen explained the 'joker' dig at Rayudu later on, the former India batter has now explained how much the controversy over the incident affected the Englishman. Pietersen's 'joker' jibe came after Rayudu said that he was supporting both teams in the final. Rayudu was earlier wearing an orange waistcoat before changing to purple, a move that annoyed Pietersen. "I have at least held firm. I wore it and I owned it. You are a joker, always a joker," Pietersen told Rayudu on air. "I am supporting both teams. I am supporting good cricket," Rayudu had responded to Pietersen's playful dig. No way Kevin Pietersen called Ambati Rayudu a Joker on live TV. #IPLFinal — RCBIANS OFFICIAL (@RcbianOfficial) May 27, 2024 "That day we had not picked teams. Chennai was hot, so I had two jackets. On air, he said whatever, but we could also tell him things because he played for RCB and did not do anything. I was maintaining professional decorum. He apologised later, also, for saying that on air. We were just having banter, but people took it in some way. But it affected him more and not me," Rayudu told Shubhankar Mishra during a podcast.

Jyotiraditya Scindia's Son Mahanaryaman To Lead Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association?
Last Updated: Mahanaryaman Scindia, son of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, is speculated to be the frontrunner for MPCA president in the September 2 election The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) is heading into a crucial election on September 2, and all eyes are on whether Mahanaryaman Scindia, son of Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, will emerge as the next president. Though nothing has been officially declared, strong speculation within cricketing and political circles suggests that Mahanaryaman may be the frontrunner, with some even hinting that he could be headed for an unopposed win. According to a TOI report, sources inside the MPCA say the long-standing rivalry between the Scindia camp and that of senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya no longer exists, since Jyotiraditya Scindia's move to the BJP has bridged earlier divisions. This shift, insiders believe, has cleared the way for Mahanaryaman to step into the role without facing a challenge. Currently serving as vice-president of the Gwalior cricket division, Mahanaryaman has been active in cricket administration. His leadership came into focus after he launched the Madhya Pradesh Premier League Scindia Cup two years ago, a franchise-style tournament modeled on the IPL. The tournament has completed two successful seasons, with one edition initially planned in Indore but later shifted to Gwalior. 'The league has shown that Mahanaryaman has the knack to take up bigger responsibilities," a senior cricketer told TOI. The MPCA, however, is not just about one name. The powerful faction led by former BCCI secretary and ex-MPCA president Sanjay Jagdale is expected to retain control of several important posts. Sources suggest that while the presidency could go uncontested to Mahanaryaman, the secretary's position may witness sharper competition, possibly with a candidate from Jagdale's group in the fray. The incumbent president, Abhilash Khandekar, is completing his second term, and preparations are reportedly underway to field Mahanaryaman as the preferred candidate for the top post. A senior member of the MPCA, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told TOI, 'Since everyone was in Indore, it was an opportunity to meet ahead of the election. The scenario would get clearer in the next couple of days. As of now, it is clear that one name has been decided unopposed for the post of president." If elected, Mahanaryaman Scindia would become the third member of his family to head the MPCA. His grandfather, the late Madhavrao Scindia, served as president for many years, while his father Jyotiraditya Scindia has also held the role in the past. The continuity of the Scindia family in the cricket association adds weight to the speculation that Mahanaryaman's candidacy is more than symbolic. For now, the cricket fraternity in Madhya Pradesh is watching closely. While nothing is final until the formal announcement on September 2, many within the MPCA already see the younger Scindia as the strongest contender for the president's chair. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
