World's richest tennis player's billionaire father broke own golden rule at US Open

Jessica Pegula is one of the finest tennis players in the world and is the daughter of Terry Pegula, who is the billionaire owner of both the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres Tennis can be as nerve-wracking for the parents as it is for the players themselves, and this seems to be particularly true for Jessica Pegula's billionaire father, Terry. In addition to being the parent of the world No. 4, he is the man behind NFL giants the Buffalo Bills and the NHL franchise Buffalo Sabres. ‌ With an estimated fortune of about £5.63billion, the businessman has admitted he usually avoids watching his daughter's matches because he "gets too nervous." ‌ Yet, at last year's US Open, the 74-year-old abandoned that tradition to witness her 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 comeback victory over Karolina Muchova. ‌ His rare presence courtside became a major talking point given his reluctance to watch Jessica - often dubbed the world's richest tennis player - in action. During Pegula's clash with Muchova in the semi-finals, WGRZ sports director Jon Scott highlighted Terry's well-known anxiety when following Jessie live. He wrote on X: "Terry Pegula shown watching daughter Jessie in US Open semi-final. He's said in the past he gets too nervous to watch her in person." Despite steering clear of many of her contests, Terry never doubted her potential to rise among the elite. Scott also posted: "I had a conversation many years ago with Terry Pegula about Jessie's tennis career. "At that point injuries had really slowed her. Terry adamantly told me his daughter could beat anyone in the world when healthy. She's headed to 1st grand slam final Saturday." Pegula eventually met Aryna Sabalenka in the New York final, where she narrowly fell short. Despite pushing the top seed in both sets, Sabalenka edged her out 7-5, 7-5, leaving Pegula heartbroken. ‌ As she returns to Flushing Meadows this summer, Pegula will be eager to go one step further. Before starting her singles run, however, she will first join forces with British No. 1 Jack Draper in the mixed doubles competition. The redesigned tournament, which offers a winners' prize of £740,000, promises to be a lively warm-up ahead of the Slam commencing on 24 August. Pegula had originally planned to partner fellow American Tommy Paul, while Draper was due to team up with Paula Badosa. Both Paul and Badosa withdrew, creating the unexpected pairing of Draper and Pegula. Their opener will be no easy task as they are set to play against Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. Raducanu and Alcaraz received wildcards for the draw, along with Olga Danilovic and Novak Djokovic, Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton, and Venus Williams and Reilly Opelka.

Bucs WR Jalen McMillan to miss weeks with 'severe' neck sprain

August 19 - Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan likely will miss several weeks recovering from a neck injury and was ruled out for Tampa Bay's Week 1 game by head coach Todd Bowles on Tuesday. "He's got a severely strained neck," Bowles said. "He's going to miss some time." McMillan made a big impact after Chris Godwin was lost for the season in October, but will open the season on injured reserve. McMillan had seven touchdown receptions in the final five games as a rookie. The Tampa Bay Times reported McMillan might be sidelined until midseason, pointing to the bye in Week 9 as a potential return date. McMillan, entering his second season, was hurt Saturday in the preseason game at Pittsburgh when he collided with Steelers cornerback Daryl Porter Jr. McMillan landed on the field helmet-first before his neck and back followed to the ground. Godwin has not participated in practice and could be on a similar timeline for playing in his first game of 2025. He returned to the Bucs in free agency in March but continues to rehab from a dislocated ankle in Week 7 of the 2024 season that required surgery. Godwin could be placed on the reserve/PUP list to start the season, which would require him to miss at least the first four games. "We're going to need guys to step up with Chris down and then Jalen going down," Bowles said Tuesday. "A lot of guys have stepped up and we've got to see them step up even more. The depth was well-needed and we still have some decisions to make after this game against Buffalo." First-round pick Emega Egbuka has turned in a stellar training camp and preseason, including a touchdown reception against the Steelers. He's likely to start alongside veteran Mike Evans. --Field Level Media

NFL fans rip CBS analyst to shreds for wild Cleveland Browns prediction

NFL fans have ripped CBS analyst Danny Kanell for his wild take on the Cleveland Browns, saying that they could be a 'nine-or-10-win team' after naming Joe Flacco as starting quarterback. Flacco was given the starting job on Monday, winning arguably the NFL's most-watched quarterback competition over Shedeur Sanders, Kenny Pickkett, Dillon Gabriel, and Tyler Huntley. 'I think they could be a nine or a 10 win team. And I do like the makeup of this team,' Kanell said. 'I think the style of play, of what they want to do offensively, suits Joe Flacco well. I think it's one of the reasons that Shedeur excelled in the preseason because it's a more of a play action, pocket-passer type of system, which I think fits Flacco to a tee.' 'I know we've got to figure out Quinshon Judkins and some of the issues that are going on with him, but I really like Dylan Sampson, their pick that they took a little bit later to possibly step in and fill a void in the backfield for them. And then we got to think about what they did this off season too, with Myles Garrett, paying him.' 'Their defense, I think is going to be one of the things for them to hang their hat on. Mason Graham, one of the rookie, first-round picks that they brought in there is a great player potentially could wreak some havoc. So I think it is more of a traditional offensive style where you're taking some play-action shots down the field, trying to run the football and playing really good, aggressive defense.' Most oddsmakers have the Browns' over/under win total for 2025 at 4.5 victories, with Kanell's prediction doubling that. Fans can't believe Kanell is so high on Cleveland. "I think they could be a 9 or 10 win team." @dannykanell on the Browns after naming Joe Flacco their QB1 to open the season. — NFL on CBS 🏈 (@NFLonCBS) August 18, 2025 '@dannykanell Can you show me the 10 wins on the schedule? Go through them one by one. I need a good laugh,' one NFL fan stated. 'More like 4 or 5 wins,' a second person said. 'Hiring dudes with no knowledge of the game,' a third person added of Kanell. 'Clowns fans are so delusional but boy is it fun watching them crumble every year. You'll be in last place like the last 12/20 years,' a fourth continued. 'Are we multiplying wins now?' a fifth concluded. A collection of social-media messages about Danny Kanell's win projection for the Browns The Browns finished last season with a 3-14 record and have not made a ton of flashy moves this offseason to lead on many fans that tripling their win total is on the horizon. Flacco is 40 and the team is committed to him as the starter, for now, with many looking past him and to try and figure out who the quarterback of the future for the team is. Many of those looking into 2026 and beyond want Sanders to get a legitimate shot at being the team's signal caller. Sanders fell to the fifth round of the NFL Draft despite being projected as a top pick in leadup to the event. The Browns also selected Gabriel in the third round in April. The first six weeks of the regular season sees the Browns face the Bengals, Ravens, Packers, Lions, Vikings, and Steelers, with many projecting consecutive losses out of the gate.
