Luke Mistone hits go-ahead homer in the 8th to help Murray State advance to the program's first CWS
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Luke Mistone hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning, Graham Kelham was solid in another long relief appearance, and Murray State beat Duke 5-4 on Monday night in a winner-take-all championship game at the Durham Super Regional to advance to the program's first College World Series.
Murray State (44-15) became the fourth No. 4 seed to advance to Omaha, Nebraska.
Duke (40-20) was seeking its first appearance in the CWS since 1961.
Jonathan Hogart hit his second home run of the game in the seventh inning — his 21st of the season — into the pine trees over the left-field wall to tie it at 3.
Murray State retook the lead in the eighth on Mistone's leadoff shot — just his fourth homer of the year. Then Dan Tauken's triple scored Will Vierling from first for a 5-3 lead after the ball caromed off the wall toward center field.
Later in the eighth, the Racers had the bases loaded with no outs after back-to-back walks but James Tallon struck out two and got a groundout to end the threat.
Murray State appeared to win the game after an interference call at second base, but it was overturned after an official review to give Duke another chance. Kelham regrouped after the celebration to get a groundout to first to end it.
Kelham, who threw 43 pitches on Sunday in a three-inning save, struck out four in 2 2/3 innings for his fourth win of the season.
Reid Easterly (9-3) took the loss after allowing two earned runs in three relief innings.

Óscar Ustari turned away eight shots for Inter Miami. Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi, who is tied with Nashville SC's Sam Surridge for the league lead with 18 goals, missed the match due to a right leg injury the 38-year-old suffered Aug. 2 in a Leagues Cup match against Necaxa. Messi's 18 goals have come while playing in 18 of his club's 23 matches. Orlando City jumps into fourth place in the Eastern Conference. Head coach Oscar Pareja needs one more victory to reach 100 across all competitions. Inter Miami sits in sixth place but has three matches in hand against the top four and two in hand against the fifth-place Columbus Crew.

Chargers cancel joint practice with Rams because of injury concerns
INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers have canceled their joint practice with the LA Rams this week. Rams coach Sean McVay said the practice set for Wednesday at The Bolt facility in El Segundo was off because of injury concerns among the Chargers. 'Truth,' Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Sunday. 'That's the biggest reason. We still got two more preseason games to go.' First-year New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore said the team was working on setting up a joint practice with the Rams. The Saints are practicing in nearby Irvine as part of a 10-day visit to California during training camp. The Chargers were the first team to open training camp and are playing an extra preseason game because they were in the Hall of Fame game, beating Detroit 34-7 on Aug. 31. The Chargers lost Rashawn Slater, who sustained a season-ending torn patella tendon in practice earlier in the week. Running back Najee Harris' status for Week 1 is up in the air after he sustained an eye injury in a July 4 firework incident. He has been walking laps at practice, wearing a helmet with a visor.

My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list: Who do I think is good? Why do I think they're good? What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations? Here is a look at where Duke lands in my Ultimate 136. Team ranking: 42 Last year's ranking: 51 Top player: QB Darian Mensah: Fourth in the AAC last season in total offense at 2,855; threw for 22 TDs last season, one of just 10 QBs in Tulane history to eclipse the 20 mark.
